New Receiver: Onkyo RC180 or Denon 2310

I've been researching on this, and other sites, as well as reading discussions for other users, and narrowed down my choices to two, very similarly priced units. The stats are basically equal, so I need your guys help to make the final decision.

My use is for a single zone 7.1 system, with speakers that need less power than both these offer. I will be inputing HDMI signals from a BluRay player, FIOS TV, Xbox 360, and maybe a PC.

Quick links to their official pages: Denon AVR-2310CI

Onkyo HT-RC180

It seems to be general perception that Onkyo offers better "bang for the buck"; however, the Denon has superior upconverting units, and the Onkyo runs hot. I wish I could find some long-term tests.

Where I would be buying the units:
6Ave's Denon

One Call's Onkyo

Thanks for the input.

If you look at the difference in the RC180 and the 2310 you will notice quite a bit of difference in the wt. of these two. They are very close together in options, not quite so sure in pure power though. Not enough if any reviews on either of them. The RC180 will give you the opportunity to add an amp in the future if you should want to. The 2310 will not. The 2310 does have a better video processor in it but again its problably something you won't need or possibly use in either of them. Your display will problably do just as well. If it were me it would be the RC180. Its bigger brother the 807 is almost the same AVR. Very little difference between them. But I feel you can't really go wrong with either. Good luck and enjoy.

Just reading some user reviews now, and a gamer complains about tangible video lag implemented by the Denon 2310. Is this a valid point? Has anyone else ran in to this with other Denon AVR's? Is the problem absent on Onkyos?

I play video games close to 10 hours a week, so this would be a deal breaker if the Denon truly experiences video lag.

Either use video pass through or connect your gaming machine's video directly to your display.
FWIW I think the RC180 has much more to offer in this price range unless - as phantom pointed out - you need better video processing. Most displays can do video processing at least on par with most AVRs - and some do much better.

I think I'm going with the Onkyo. I remember finding it somewhere for less before, but can't anymore. Anyone able to track one down for a lower price (shipped to NY). If so, please post a link.

A4L also has the 807 for the same price as the 180.....but shoponkyo has the 180 > the 807...

I might consider adding satellite radio, so maybe the 807 is the right move. Anyone know how to acquire a coupon code for a4l?

I'm going to wait to purchase for my new cash back card to arrive, so prices might change.

That's the deal I saw over the weekend....would have been nice. I've got some time to wait it out. Don't need this until late July.
