I never argued that a Raid array by itself is suitable for long term archival purposes, please read my earlier posts (specifically #21 and the article on my web site) again.
Apart from that non-technical users can buy ready-made NAS devices if they want a raid array.

It is not really a separate issue as it's part of the decision process when choosing a type of media.

There is nothing wrong with the way you are doing things (with all the precautions you mentioned), it's just not very practical for myself and I dare to guess most other people and it doesn't provide any fundamental advantage compared to the way I back up my movies.
