TC-P50G25 image retention

thinking of buying the panny TC-P50G25... but i often play games, or just let my mac mini play pandora/itunes/etc onscreen.

is this something is should be worried about? is the whole image retention still an issue?

also, if i put my mac mini at full 1080, will this tv shave pixels off the top/bottom/sides?

thanks!

IR shouldn't be an issue since it's temporary and can easily be fixed by playing 16:9 programming or running one of the TV's tools that prevent/get rid of IR. The issue you're probably looking at is burn-in which is a dead issue now. The only way you could burn-in a plasma with newer models is if you were really trying but there have been tests that show it would take a long time.

This article is from 2008 and had the testers leave a video game menu screen on for several days. While there was IR there was no permanent damage and the IR was removed easily.

Don't really know what you mean by the second question though. If you put your Mac Mini to full 1080 it'll just display your computer in 1080p resolution.

well, i guess i am concern is about burn-in as i may have the desktop of my mac mini onscreen. really, i turn it off, but my wife/son may not.

i dont know why i am so frightened of buying a plasma. price is right, size is right, picture quality is all there... yet still.. i have this knot in my stomach... WHY???

help? i want to purchase this set tomorrow.

also, what about life of the TV? am i looking at a brightness that is 50% after a few years? ideally, id like it to be a purchase that will last at least 5 years.

.. probably should look at quality LCD/LED; refer over to that forum.

any particular reason why?

Burn in is no greater a problem on plasma than it is with LCD. And Plasma will last just as long if not longer than LCD.

If you plan to connect your TV to a computer, you'd better go for a LCD TV where you will get no headache about IR.

As much as I prefer plasmas over LCD, if burn-in is an issue LCD is your only choice. They are immune to burn-ins. The fact you actually managed to burn-in a recent model plasma means you go with a LCD.

Fanboyism at its worst. It's sad when ppl who support one thing over another will overlook facts to support their views.
