DisplaySearch reports that LCD 3D TV shipments reached 6.6 million units in Q3 2011 - a 27% increase compared to last year. 3D TV penetration reached 12%. The passive pattern retarder panel shipments grew 34% and active shutter TVs grew 23%. They say that downstream manufacturers and brands are continuously promoting 3D, and end-user awareness and interest are growing.

That's confusing since the headline says 6.6 million "sold" during that period yet the story says "6.6" million "shipped". Can you confirm what that 6.6 million specifically refers to? That figure is also for the total to date though at first glance it could be mistaken as just this quarter, whereas the actual number for the quarter was 250,000 (again shipped or sold?)

Came across the following which also uses Display Search for information and which says shipments, sales and penetration were slower and that this holiday season retailers will be focusing not on 3D but large screen sets instead. From that article:

"For the first nine months of 2011, 3DTVs in North America accounted for only about 8.5% of total unit shipments, according to DisplaySearch. The firm cited consumers' unwillingness to pay any significant premium for 3D, and expects U.S. retailers to not heavily promote 3DTVs during the upcoming holiday-selling season. Rather, retailers will focus on larger screens sizes and "strong value pricing."

we seen Puss in Boots in Imax 3D and it was pretty good. The story was a little long, IMO, but I love Antonio Banderas & Salma Hayek together, even as a cartoon! The 3D was really good at times, but IMO, it seem blurry when there was a lot of fast action on the screen. Because of this, I would have rather seen it it 2D. I don't feel the 3D added that much to the movie. I liked the Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 3D much better than Puss in Boots.

Now my wife, on the other hand, really enjoyed the movie and loved the 3D. She was happy that we picked to see it in 3D. She said she enjoyed the depth that it had, specially in scenes that showed the landscape. She was not bother by any blurriness either.

I will say that Dreamworks animation of Puss was very, very good. His movements at times were very "cat" like and the care given to small details like his fur and facial expressions, pulled you into his character.

It was an enjoyable movie, not quite worth $20.00, (IMO), but it did make me laugh out loud a few times.

At the time of the poll, it was believed that 3D would only be a feature on the high tier models. It's more a question of how long it will take to penetrate households based on how long consumers plan to hold on to their reliable HD monitors. At that point, it's how much the popularity of the feature grows which will then compel broadcasters and cable providers to greatly expand the amount of programming available.

One thing I will say, you do keep consistency in this thread. You consistency take other posters words and try to use them to attack that poster or his opinions.
