What is the new PDP standard?

Now that Pioneer is out of the PDP business, what is the new standard? I am considering something to replace my 5 year old Fujitsu. The Fujitsu has served me well for a long time but it's time for something more low profile, uses less energy and hopefully has a superior image. I rarely see a plasma in any store which I think has a better image than my current tv. The one main improvement on newer models is the black levels but beyond that I have not seen anything outside the Kuro series which impresses me. Is there something out there now the same or better than Kuro or am I better off waiting a few more years?

Thanks in advance.

There's nothing better than kuro right now IMO. If you're looking for something right now, you can check out the VT20/25 Panasonic plasmas. They are nice and also do 3-D, but they are no kuros. Panasonic does own the patents from Pioneer so it's possible next year or year after we could see some kuro-like displays out of them. LG also has improved dramatically this year and have pretty good quality, but not kuro-quality yet. If they continue improving, it's plausible they could make something competitive in the next few years.

The Panasonic TC 50 V 20 is being compared favorably with the Pioneer Kuro. That model is available only at Best Buy, however, the VT 25 series will go from 50 inches to 65 inches and these models will have wider availability.

Some people have already dismissed the VT20 - VT25 series due to possible variations in black level. Others like their VT 20's and there will be lots of VT25s sold.

Still other people are going to wait another year or two or three to see if Panasonic does something to satisfy them regarding the black level of the Panny plasma.

Check out Runco's plasmas. That's the ONLY TV I would consider replacing my Pioneer with.

Thanks guys. I had a pretty good feeling this was the case. My father owns a 151FD and that display is just gorgeous. My mother even constantly comments how great it is. My Fujitsu is still pretty darn good even 5 years later (it better be for what i paid) so I guess waiting another year or two won't kill me. I just hope Panasonic doesn't decide to get out of the PDP business like Pioneer.

The name starts with a "Pana" and ends in a "sonic"
