Panasonic TC-P54G20 v LG 50PK950

I'm looking at getting a new HDTV set for my basement viewing area so lighting is not a problem. I found the 54 inch Pansonic G20 for the same price as the new LG 50PK950. Any thoughts as to which one is the better deal.

The set will be used mostly for movies and gaming.

what kind of games?

edit:
ok well, if you play FPS competitively, or if fighting games are important to you, then get the panny.

if you are a more casual type, play a lot of different genres, rpgs, sandbox style then I would suggest the 60PK550.

950 is good, but if you are in a basement, you're paying for an anti-reflective coating that you won't be using. Same with the G20, but it's the only one with very low input lag, so AR coating or not that's your only choice for hardcore gaming on a plasma.

Basically these are the upper limit of what I am willing to pay budget wise. Best Buy are selling these currently for just under 1800. I don't want to go any higher than that.

My current set in my basement is an older Mitsubishi 48 inch rear projection 1080i TV. The tv is fine but obviously not able to use Blue Ray... Heck I bought this thing back in 2003 or 2004. I needed something thiner but a super thin display is not something that I really need and don't feel like paying a big premium for that. I am basically looking for the best bang for the buck for somthing at least as big a screen as I have now. I'd love to have something bigger than 50 but would rather have a "quality" display than a huge screen.

If you are looking for good value you should definitely check out the pk550 then.

What is the difference in the 950 and 750? Does anyone know if some of the problems in the 750 that Chad came across will be in the 950?

The 750 and 950 both have the firmware issues. But LG has said a fix for the sharpening issue is on the way(no mention of the calibration issues). Here is the source of that information.

950 is supposedly better under lights because of that "trueblack filter", the 950 also has a lower black level than the 750(which is odd).
