Un55C8000 or Pn58C8000 or panny 54"?

Hey guys, long time lurker of these forums. I am without a tv right now and want to pull the trigger on one of the samsung sets or panasonic. we had an LCOS xbr sony rear projection. My girlfriend LOVES the LED samsungs because "omg they are so thin". I am less after how the thing looks when its off and much more concerned who has the better picture for the money. I can get the un55c8000 with 3d player and glasses for $3200shipped, the pn58c8000 for $2800shipped and worstbuy has the panny package for $3400ish. Which should I go with??

Wait a few months for LG and Sharp to release their 3DTVs. This will bring the price down and will also allow the XpanD X103 3D glasses to be released.

The current crop of 3D glasses are overpriced and are rather poor quality build wise. XpanD is the leader in active shutter 3D glasses and uses the best lens technology.

Don't get Panasonic since they enjoy lying and screwing the people who purchased their 3DTVs who thought they would be getting Ice Age for free: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...8#post18653298

So did you decide on either of those? I am also between the Samsung LED 55 and the plasma 58. Any sites or links that you can share?

The Plasmas are superior to the edge lit LED LCD's regarding image quality in both 2D and 3D, no real comparison. I have seen all the currently available 3Dtv's many times over and own a Samsung PN50C7000 plasma, stick with either a PNxxC8000 or a xxVT25.

Def go with plasma. After several comparisons in multiple settings, I prefer the Panasonic VT25 series. Brighter, better effects, with no ghosting that I have seen myself.

Also, avoid Beast Buy. If you look at the AVS sponsors above, Cleveland Plasma, for example, has the VT25 54" at a very good price, and they've gotten some in from what I hear.

OR if you sign up with direcTV at Beast Buy, you get $350 off a new TV within 30 days of signing up.

Don't like your own c7000?

Has anyone seen a Local Dimmed LED 3D set vs plasma 3D? Is there still a big difference?

The C8000 offers better BL and the VT25 is better than both the C7000 and the C8000 in this regard (at least initially * ).

*Panasonic rep. stated that the BL will still rise over the life of the VT25 but it is much more gradual vs the 2008/2009 models.

I'm in the same situation deciding between the UN55C8000 and PN58C8000 / PN63C8000.

When I stopped by local Magnolia store to look at these units, they had the 55 and 58 side by side. The 55 was noticeably brighter and made the 58 look dark. I asked an associate there if it was due to settings and he said that this is just the case with led vs plasmas, but he said that if I was just looking at the plasma by itself in the room that it would be fine and more "natural".

Just started my research into these two units. Seems that most people say that the plasma is superior in picture quality. But some reviews talk about the PN58C8000 having some kind of buzzing noise. Has this problem been rectified? Perhaps it was just a few defective units? I think that would be pretty annoying.

THe UN55C8000's frame is much sexier and I really like how it's thin and uniform all around. The PN58C8000's frame is a bit too wide, though my wife would definitely enjoy the slightly larger screen.

Does anyone know if the ghosting issues in 3D are present in the PN58C8000 / PN63C8000 or is does it only apply to the UN55C8000?

I spent the last 2 weeks on this debate, the panasonic plasma 3d or samsung c8000 plasma.

After all the detailed research I decided that both were Perfect choices.

All the, this is better or this one is worse, are all minor issues, barely noticeable to anyone who picks them.

I found that 99% of any problems that people have with the Samsung was because they had the LED and not the Plasma and they keep posting in the Plasma discussions.

Therefore my decision came down to price.

I went to Best Buy and decided that because I got the 58 inch TV with Blu-Ray, 2 glasses, DVD and Geek Squad, I chose the SAMSUNG C8000 plasma. I could only get the Panny 54 inch with no extras at the same price.

When they went to the back....they were out of the Samsung.

So, Best Buy told me they have an off-the record price. You can get the 58 inch Panny for the 54 inch price!!

So I did it. I now have installed at home the Panasonic 58 inch and it is awesome!

I will say one thing - I do miss not having the 2d to 3d conversion. I know it doesn't work good on everything, but when sitting here with my Panasonic, I want to try so many things in 3d, from Halo to Star Trek...and it is very disppointing that I can't. This is a serious issue because I still have that 'would I be having more fun if I got the Samsung).

That is what your main decision should be. Price and Do you want 2d to 3d conversion?

All the other decisions on which looks better, which has more problems...is really a very minor point, they are all things that the normal person would never see, if so a firmware update and setting or two and it is cleared up.

Good luck...and P.S. If you deal with Best Buy, ask about the 58 for 54 inch price if you want the Panny....also throw in that you will buy a $50 Geek Squad...that helps get the price down...

I was told that "off the record promo" (getting the 58 for the price of a 54)was to have expired Saturday. Anyone know if it was extended?

Ghosting issues are present in ALL Samsung 3D tv's. Either the LED or Plasma.

I know because I have sampled ALL of the 3D TV's with the latest firmware update (1022) and the still suffer from the most ghosting.

If you don't believe me ask for a demo of Monster vs. Aliens and go the the "bridge scene" and look at the red suspension cables holding up the bridge. Double images prevail. However that is not to say that there is ghosting on all of the images. If you can over look this then the Samsungs 3D tv's are a good buy, especially with the free 3D glasses and a copy of M vs. A in 3D.

If your main reason is 3D TV then the Panasonic models are the best buy. I am taking delivery of their 58" plasma on Thursday.

I have returned both the Samsung and Sony 3D TV for the Panasonic Plasma.

I do feel that superior 3D shutter glasses will help to eliminate the ghosting issue but the first model which will be available will be from "monster", think it's called 3d vision, for $249.00 retail sometime in September.

No release date on the XpanD x103 model as of yet.

Good luck.

ALL 3D TVs that I've seen suffer from ghosting. If you look at the Panasonic and Samsung sets in the same places in Monsters vs Aliens, you see similar levels of ghosting. With the latest firmware upgrades, I can't see any ghosting in the bridge scene on my Samsung. In the dark interiors of Galaxar's ship, both plasmas exhibit ghosting in the same places. There is very little difference.

I'm looking at the same 2 samsung models . This is my dilemma - LED or plasma? The plasma right now is $200 more, so I'll go either way. But, the plasma is .5" thicker.

It's either a 55" LED or a 58" plasma. I'm torn. It's going above a fireplace in a family room that has a LOT of windows, not a home theatre. I watch a LOT of sports and movies, some regular TV. I will be adding an AppleTV as well.

I would like to be able to control either one from my iPhone, and I believe the LED model can (8000 series). Can someone please confirm this.

Are there other factors I should consider. I was leaning towards the LED until I search and found this thread. thanks!

With the bright lighting an LCD might be a good choice, but given that you are mounting it high, unless you can angle it correctly you may get better picture quality from a plasma.
