Just for everyone's info, I have found that MB 2.2.8 breaks ts playback through MPC-HC.
MPC-HC fails to launch, and 7MC tries to play the file and fails with "Windows cannot play the video file" error.
restoring my sys back to prior MB 2.2.8, fixes the issue, but now I don't have MediaInfo as I upgraded;(

Strange, have you reported it on the Media Browser forum?

I can confirm this too. Although a few files open MPC, most are now just played internally.

I am using the software setup guide above (with Shark007) to playback MKVs in Windows Media Center for a Win7 64 setup and seem to periodically have playback freezing during video, every couple minutes. Video cant be resumed- need to restart video - multiple times during movie. If I play the mkv in Windows Media Player(x64) it plays fine. Any ideas what I could look into.

just a note if anyone else runs into this issue.

I was having an issue where MC would force my screen res to drop and an error to occur cuasing MC to crash, which then allowed the res to restore to its proper setting.

this happened after i changed from one monitor to another. after spinning my wheels for a while on the issue, I found out from a poster here that Media Control caused that exact issue for him. All I had to do was uninstall and reinstall Media Control and the problem went away.

Im not sure what about Media Control was cuasing the problem to begin with, but it must lock/force a certain res from within its settings. Just something to check if you run into a similar problem.

So I have everything setup using MPC HC as an external player and all seems to be well. The only things that really bother me are that when I pause I can’t really tell how much time is remaining. Also the fast forward and rewind are a little kludgy. Are there any solutions to this?

I am afraid of switching to the internal Windows player because on my TEST PC I was never able to get things set up correctly. Shark codec pack seems a little shady to me. Anyone else think this or am I just crazy??

Also Is the internal video player better quality in any way as far as performance compared to MPC - HC?

Also does anyone have recommended settings for ATI Catalyst?

Thanks A Bunch!!!

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what is a fix. I had to reload my hard drive and all sw. Now when using WMC7 when in full screen I can not see my mouse pointer. If I am not in full screen mode it is fine. Any Ideas please?

Thanks

First of all I would like to thank GreenEyez for this guide! I first installed it back in June and it worked great. To say I'm new at this is putting it mildly
The problem is the PQ seamed low(washed out) thought it was the video card,so I upgraded to a ATI HD 5750 not much help every thing looks good until the movie is played, they are video_ts no compression.Followed the guide for P1-a MPC-HC and P2 MB tried MCM in beginning had problems and uninstalled it. OS Win7 32bit,ATI 10.9 monitor HansG 21(dvi) TV Sharp Aquos 32 (HDMI) Any ideas as to low PQ?

Thanks

Northwestern,

Pardon me if this is already in the guide, but did you try the WMC black level registry fix?

WMC looked very washed out (blacks were grey) on my Pioneer plasma until I tweaked a value in the registry? I am over-simplifying this but it has something to do with WMC outputing 16-235 colors instead of 0-255 colors or vice versa.

http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/06/fixin...ck-levels.html

I tried both settings (value of 1 and a value of 2) and one of them really improved my picture.

Hope this helps,

Sorry FF & Rew and kludgy on mkv. Use prev and next chapter where you can.

Welcome.
No, you have more flexibility and less codec issues with MPC.

Go in the CCC settings and set the Dynamic Range to 0-255.

@terminaldawn - You can also use the jump forward/back keys to jump every 30-1 minutes ahead, see here.

any ideas on why using Media Player on it's own sounds and to some extent looks so much better than Media Center ?

I don't think it does. 7MC works great with just a little tweaking. Its fast, plays everything out there, and is integrated natively with W7. I've tried XBMC, MP, and one other I can't remember, and after trying for days to get stuff configured and set up, I went with 7MC which does everything natively and intuitively and effectively. I think 7MC looks great also.

Did you install the complete Catalyst Suite, or just the individual components (DD and CCC)?

That would seem to be the ATI Catalyst Control Center for those of us that are acronym challenged individuals...

Reading where AMD bought ATI, is this product compatible with Intel?

thanks

And you can change the small, medium, and large jump times under tweaks. I have my fast-forward/backward remote buttons set to jump forward/back by 7.5 seconds. The remote cursor right/left buttons jump by 60 seconds, and the remote cursor up/down buttons jump by 15 minutes.

thanks for your excellent guide!!

Just started the setup of WMC...

Any news about when you'll add the above to your guide?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! Thanks for such a helpful guide!
I have a Win 7 x64 setup running 7MC with Media Browser (I don't have any need for a BluRay player right now). I have been ripping my DVD collection to MKV using MakeMKV and it works well. However, I'm having issues when trying to use Fast Forward and Rewind options when playing these files. The jump forward / skip back works fine. But it definitely seems like there are some issues with fast forward and rewind actually working.
I noted several post mentions of Media Control possibly fixing this. I've also googled a bit and can't seem to find anything (or might not be googling the correct terms/words). I didn't exactly follow the guide here because I found this guide first on the Hacking Windows 7 Media Center blog.
So a couple of questions (or any other info would be greatly appreciated):
1) Does Media Control work with MKVs and other formats with the latest 7MC? If not, are there any workarounds to get the FF and Rewind to work better?
2) Does Greeneyez guide fix this and should I try to update my system via this guide?
Thanks in Advance!!

i've always wondered why the skip forward/back aren't good enough....
once i started using the skip buttons, i never have touched my ff/rew buttons.

my mother has the same issue, she refuses to skip through commercials on her recorded tv, but instead insists upon actually fast forwarding through them.

never understood why.

We use the skip forward/back definitely for TV especially for commercials. But I guess I'm not really into pressing the jump forward button 10-30 times to get to a point in the show/movie that we want to watch. And we have just gotten a wireless keyboard/mouse so I realize we can use that to point directly at the spot we want to go on the timeline.

I guess I'm more annoyed by the "bug" that the fast forward / rewind buttons on the remote do not do their job for all files.

Well, the issue is not MakeMKV related but it is related to the splitter/subtitle renderer being used. I had posted the issue on Doom9, but it looks like until the Matroska Splitter gets redone the issue will remain.

MPC-HC seems to work fine with PGS subs created by MakeMKV, but ffdshow DXVA didn`t load a set of PGS subs created by MakeMKV when i tested it at somebody`s HTPC.

@TapND - Yes, ff/rw are not supported by default in MKV, only in other formats, Media Control does this, enables ff/rw and subtitle switching. If you are using the ffdshow software decoder you don`t need to do the modifications for the ffdshowDXVA one presented in my guide.
