First off id like to say a Big thank you to GreenEyez
for writing this up. I had been using VLC as a player for years now for the ease of use but always wanted a media collection like in WM7.
So I finally decided to make the switch after seeing all the great comments and the step by step information in this article.
I opted to go with the WM7 built in player with the shark codec pack(section B).
Followed all the instructions for
Part1/Part2/Part3/Part 6-blu ray ripping(i dont rip)
Skipped Part 4/Part 5/
Now after alot of fiddling around I managed to get the Meta data to an acceptable lvl. Issues i encountered or noticed where
1:ImagesByName did not work that great, up until i turned on the chocolate Theme.Witch for some unknown reason made it quite a by more responsive then when i was solely using your "Black & Titanium" theme.(i seen in this thread you are aware that IBN does have issues with some actors)
2: For Media Browser I find it is unclear, should we be turning on all those plug ins or not ? I currently have Chocolate Theme,Cover Art,Mediainfo provider,High Quality thumbnails and IBN.
3:Cover Art only works for some media unsure why, Ive seen some discussion about this, however i also seen that the new update should have resolved this. Perhaps my setting I'm unsure, however that's not a big worry... Here is a SS of what I mean
Sorry cant post links so had to link it...
4:I have been having enormous issues with subtitles as well as with switching audio.
If my mkv file has built in subtitles in more then 1 language I cannot change it to another language other then going in windowed mode on 7MC and using the ffd icon in the system tray. I have tried with my mce remote as well as with keyboard command and even with the mouse.
Subtitles is pretty much a make or break deal for me as my other half is Finnish, hence every movie is played with subs.
When the subtitle pop up/bubble appears in 7MC if i use the mouse to switch subtitles it does not work it stays in English,if I use the remote(with proper keys assigned in Media control) still does not switch and even with keyboard mappings.
If i minimize and use the ffd icon they switch flawlessly, but its rather annoying...
If the Media comes with multiple audio sources I cannot switch them either, often leads to commentary audio.... and cannot be switched off and or in animated films I always ensure I have other language audio(much easier for children and all).
5: Im assuming this is due to the theme Chocolate that i chose in media browser, however when i was only using your "Black & Titanium" theme they're was a scroll bar at the bottom including all my groups, now even tho I still have that theme + chocolate I have lost that.
Now before you assume its my media, I have tested all of them in vlc and the options i want are they're and switchable. As as in Media Player Classic -Home Cinema i can switch audio/subtitles without a problem base on the menu.
6:Media control did crash on me a few(3x) times while attempting to configure it, however once I have removed "Direct Commands", "Context Menu" & "Start Page" i no longer have that issue.
Before anyone says do some research(as I know they're is quite a few issues listed) I have searched around alot and tried numerous other configs posted, to no avail... Over the last few days I have invested over 50 hrs on trying to get this up and running, granted the last 30 are on the subtitle/audio portion.
Now with all of that said have any ideas on how to resolve any of those issues? As the media browser is definitely a huge plus and is quite convenient.
Is it possible to now switch and start using Media Player Classic -Home Cinema inside of WM7(in order to keep the media browser) or should I perhaps look into Media portal(seems way more complicated). As at this point my media library is getting quite extensive over 3 TB.
p.s. Sorry for the long post
