+1 . MPC-HC 64bit only works with ffdshow 64bit, and vice versa, either the official versions or the latest SVNs linked by dbone. And 64bit brings 0 improvements to a media HTPC, since 2GB is more than enough for a HTPC that only does media playback or ripping.

greeneyez/dbone

thanks all is well. Went back to using 32bit setup via your links.
i need to stop tinkering and leave things alone.

hey i just posted a similar issue on damians website. I was also using 32bit in past but newly installed 64bit and downloaded new versions of mpc and ffdshow.
i got the in the mpchc settings and no ffdshow in the add list also.
my avr just shows pch multichannel and 7.1 but im not getting any sound out of surrounds.
also the ffdshow icon in my tray isnt popping up.
is yours? hopefully someone can shed some light or may go back to 32 bit. tired of fresh installs!!

7.1 multichannel is probably your Windows config default output? Are you using shark007 or ffdshow solo install?

When downloading a couple movies and running playon as an extender on my I7 740 laptop I'm nearly maxing out my 4gb ram. That's why I have decided to use win 64x and 6gb ram in my Htpc. I'm constantly making out my 4g ram.

I had shark007 but switched to ffdshow solo. Everything is working well via the guide on page 1 now. I have a decent PC but if 32 works without issues thats what im sticking with.

Guys, this is probably not the best thread to ask, but could anyone point me to a good resource for calibrating the color for my video card? I have an ATI Radeon 4800 connected by HDMI to my LCD. Running Windows 7 x64

Thanks for the tip.

guys, i am having trouble playing TS files in 7MC.

are my settings messed up? need an external player?

any software to convert these TS files to something more common, like MKV or MPEG?

thanks

Can you be more specific, what type of TS files, what video codec, audio codec, etc... For example VC-1 TS will not play in 7MC unless you hack things up, same thing goes for True HD (see an excellent post from Renethx explaining)

You could hack up WMC a little using a codec pack like Shark. My preferred method, use MPC HC as your player and have it launch from WMC (via Media Browser or Mymovies), so no hacking needed

i also tried MPC-HC, but all i got is a black screen.....

With the shark007 codecs installed,
set the suggested settings checkbox and then . . .
for an mkv, on the mkv tab, set gabests' splitter
for an m2ts that originated fram a BD, set the blu-ray splitter on the mpg~mp4 tab
Media Center will now be able to play that file.

So your m2ts VC-1 won't even play in MPC HC? That is odd, do you have any other stuff installed on your PC? Also, in MPC HC Go To View -> Options -> Internal Filters and make sure that MPEG PS/TS/PVA is checked under Source Filters.

May not fix your problem, but latest version for MPC-HC is 1.5.1.2931

crap, you got me. 1080i VC-1 causes a lot of problems with players (there are a handful of BluRay movies that are 1080i). Only thing I can think of is it is a bad remux?

i am still doing research and saving $ to get pieces of hardware here and there.

for software I am reading this thread.

I have never build computer before so a lot to learn from here.

- I will have a 2TB as the only hard drive for the HTPC. what are the size of the partitions should there be?
- what format type should I have for these partition, NTFS?

Thanks,

Just an idea, any chance it's a HD Audio Bluray of Vivaldi, say or Beethoven or Mozart?
As I have these and it's purely High Def audio and a black screen for the video.

Thanks,

Well, you will only need about 60 gb for OS HD partition (also good to keep a size that will be easy to clone and swap out for a SSD when they are cheaper), and I like to split my large HDD into partitions equal to the platters that make up the hard drive, so maybe divide by 3 or 4 if that's how many platters there are and also divide one of those into a 60 gb for the OS
eg.
2 TB = 1953 GB / 3 = 3 X 651 GB...then

C: Drive 60 GB
D: Drive 591 GB
E: Drive 651 GB
F: Drive 651 GB

Format all as NTFS, and allow drive indexing for the E and F drives if you want, helps for compression, I don't do it as I have a few other drives, but never do it for the OS drive and it's partitions.

Just my thoughts, anybody else can jump in

I don,t remember the exact setting, not at computer right now. I had the same thing and solved the problem I think in options renderer settings, vsync settings. Try some changes I'm sure it is there. Can only give exact settings in the weekend! Let me know sorry for the delay!
