- In the guide, Channel Up and Down are Page Up and Down
- During Pause, Skip Fwd and Skip Back move a frame at a time (doesn't work on an Extender)
I map OK to my OK button and Prev Channel button so I don't have to remember. Likewise, on my remotes that have Page and Day buttons, I map the Channel and Skip functions to those.
For anyone using an Xsight remote, you can get the Media Center profile by selecting Digital Media box - Xbox - Universal Media Remote. All command are there except Recording List, which I had to learn. HERE is a fairly complete JP1 upgrade for JP1 remote users. I've made my own updated and expanded version that I will post soon. The JP1 codes can be converted to pronto hex using MakeHex, or I can post them upon request.
For anyone searching for codes, the protocol is MCE which is form of RC6-6-32, protocol ID 01 2A, Device 116.15. Discrete Off and On were a little hard to find. Those are OBC 41 and 42.
Apologies if these have been posted before. If anyone has found any additional functions like this, please post them.
While watching Recorded TV or a DVD, enter a number(s) and the press Play. This will jump playback to the time you just entered. Eg. if you want to go to the one hour mark, enter 6, 0, play.

Yep.

Did you install anything new lately?

Nope, I've stopped messing with it because I just want it to work.

Are your drivers up to date?

I believe so. The card (ATI HD6450 I believe) is only a couple months old and I downloaded drivers when I installed it.
Quote:
Is windows up to date?

Yes, it's set to do that automatically weekly.

A lot of it just seems to be HDMI issues and I can't stand it. It amazes me companies STILL can't make the thing reliable, either. Now my latest problem is that the audio (when switching input back to the TV) sometimes doesn't switch to the HDMI audio and so I get no sound until I replug the HDMI cable from the back of the PC. This is all just so ridiculous.

edit: This thread seems to be the issue I'm experiencing. Maybe installing a previous version will help.

Every few weeks my skip forward/skip back/stop buttons on my remote will stop working. Neither my Harmony One nor the remote I purchased just to get the IR receiver will work, so I know it's not either remote. If I uninstall the USB IR receiver and then reinstall it the buttons will start working again. Anyone else ever have this issue and if so, what did you do? I'm thinking it may just be the IR receiver crapping out on me. What do you think?

Has anyone else encountered WMC recording the same episode all the time even though I strictly specify *NEW* episodes only? God, it's infuriating (as are most things with WMC for me it seems). It seems to be MTV and Comedy Central shows a lot, but regardless...it knows the original air date (the episodes recorded have the same name, description, and original air date) and it's STILL being recorded every time. It's NOT FREAKING NEW! The least I would expect if the new tag is messed up is for it to compare the description like my TiVo did so it's not recording the same one. This was even worse because it obviously knew the original air date and that it had been recorded before and it still didn't give a ****. I just don't understand.

I had that problem with The Daily Show on Comedy Central. I changed the series settings to record "New" shows and specified the airtime "Around 11:00 PM". I haven't had a duplicate recording since.

I think "new" in media center means it's the most recent episode. It doesn't matter how many times it airs, it's still "new" until the next newer episode airs.
post #4417 of 4641
I thought of doing that (and probably will for the daily show), but I always worry about some time changes for a show as I don't want to miss an episode. I know MTV likes to do that a lot.

Having a little trouble with my 7MC setup. I just built a new HTPC with a Celeron G530 (sandy bridge; HD1000 / 2000 graphics), ASRock H61M/U3S3 mothboard, and Asus MyCinema PHC3-100 tuner. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium from scratch and added a few basic utilities (AVG, etc.), the OpenCodecs codec pack, and SoftPointer Tag Support because I have a lot of FLAC audio.

I configured my Windows sound use HDMI audio output and set the speakers to 7.1 which worked great upon testing it (sound came out of all the correct speakers). I then configured 7MC and told it 7.1 audio as well. When I tried to playback live TV I would get the "Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart computer." message. In an attempt to resolve it I set the Windows audio settings to "Stereo" and set the 7MC audio settings to "5.1". After this I was able to play live and recorded TV correctly, along with FLAC music, but I've had some other strange developments.

Now, occasionally while watching TV or playing music my computer with lockup. The screen will be unresponsive, the audio will play a tight loop of the last 1 second or so of audio being played, and I can only get it to stop by turning the computer off. Then when it starts back up sometimes it will freeze again while booting up and I have to cycle power again to get it to boot into Windows. After that it will work fine again for a while and lock up. Any ideas here? Is this related to HDMI audio? Is there any way for me to correctly set 7.1 in Windows and 7MC? HELP!! =)

"Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart computer."

Hi: I just had the same problem this week. Searching came up with a microsoft result that there must be an issue with incorrect HDMI audio drivers. I have a EVGA GTX 460 card. I downloaded the latest drivers & selected a "clean install". That solved the problem.

Hope this works for you!

Whitestar2:

That's interesting... I did install the latest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer. I don't think I can get drivers directly from Intel because I'm using the onboard video solution. I think those drivers for the H61 chipset and Celeron G530 combination are only available from the motherboard manufacturer...

Windows is retarded. If you set the sound card settings to stereo and WMC to 5.1, everything should work correctly. I ran into the same issue when I was messing around with one of the pre Frodo XBMC builds and trying to get HD audio to bitstream correctly. I finally found a build that works without issue but the main thing I noticed was that even though the sound card was set to stereo, XBMC still output 7.1 for the soundtracks that had it and WMC still output DD+ in 5.1.
post #4422 of 4641
The only time this fails is on. Multi-track PCM title such as Kill Bill.

I only use WMC for live TV and DVR so I don't know what issues it has with playing back movie soundtracks but I can play everything including multichannel PCM in XBMC with no issues.
post #4425 of 4641
So XBMC overides the system settings?

I actually have not seen that error in a while even with system sounds set to 7.1.

My brother-in-law sent me a few DVD discs loaded with the episodes for "An Idiot Abroad". They include a separate MKV file for each episode (for example - an.idiot.abroad.s01e00.720p.bluray.x264-shortbrehd.mkv). I can't play these files with 7MC. I can play them with just about everything else I have: MPC Home Cinema, JRMC v17 and VLC. I'd like to be able to play them in Media Center.

Here's the info from MediaInfo:
First video stream: English, 4 258 Kbps, 1280*720 (16:9), at 25.000 fps, AVC (High@L4.1)(CABAC / 5 Ref Frames)
First audio stream: English, 192 Kbps, 48.0 Khz, 16 bits, 2 channels, AC-3

I'm using Shark007's codec package and would like to know what additional codecs I may need to install.

How are you trying to play them in 7MC? Are they copied over to your hard drive and your selecting them from WMC's Movie Menu? Are they in a medibrowser collection? Are you putting the DVD in the HTPC and trying to use "PlayDVD" when the option comes up?

I'd really like to offer my extended thanks to GreenEyez for this guide. I think there's some collaboration going on now with Assassin's guides, which I also purchased.

Now that the guide has been updated to point everyone towards MC Themer, I would like to offer an optional entrypoint for youtube. I like having this integrated into WMC, and I personally tried out the Macrotube plug in and found it to be somewhat unpolished for a paid program.

Here is a free way to add youtube:

After installing media center themer, you'll have a configurable xml file in your C:/ProgramData/MediaCenterThemer folder
Open the file and follow along

I think this is what the default file looks like
Code:
<MediaCenterThemer xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="MCTSchema.xsd">
        <Resources>
                <TextFormat>
                <Text Color="rgb(151,217,255)" Font="Segoe Media Center">
                        <Replace Font="Comic Sans MS" Bold="true" />
                </Text>
                <Text Color="rgb(2,166,212)" Font="Segoe Media Center">
                        <Replace Font="Comic Sans MS" Bold="true" />
                </Text>
                <Text Color="rgb(5,33,92)" Font="Segoe Media Center">
                        <Replace Font="Comic Sans MS" Bold="true" />
                </Text>
                <Text Font="Segoe Media Center Light">
                        <Replace Color="rgb(255,255,90)" Height="20" />
                </Text>
                </TextFormat>
                        <Resource Id="COMMON.BACKGROUND.PNG">
                                <Replace File="Theme\bkg-demo.jpg"/>
                        </Resource>
                </Rcdata>
        </Resources>
</MediaCenterThemer>

I typically delete everything from TextFormat to /TextFormat, and I just use a dark background that compliments the default white/blue text and pictures. It's also really easy to go to the C:/ProgramData/MediaCenterThemer/Theme folder and save a new jpg as the bkg-demo.jpg or you can edit the above string to say background1080p.jpg and save it in the Theme folder as such.

> Now to the addition of youtube
If you use the following in your xml file, you'll create a Custom Menu named "Youtube" which will open the XL youtube website when clicked. Just google image search for a youtube icon then save it to C:\ProgramData\MediaCenterThemer\Theme\youtube.png
Code:
<StartMenu>
                <!-- Addition of a new menu strip -->
                <Custom Title="Youtube">
                        <MenuItem Name="Youtube" HideToolbar="true">
                                <Image>Theme\youtube.png</Image>
                                <Link>http://www.youtube.com/xl</Link>
                        </MenuItem>
                </Custom>
        </StartMenu>
</MediaCenterThemer>

Using Shark007's codec package in a win7 64bit system.

Audio from Blurays (mkvs) work fine with the appropriate HD bitsteamed signal being fed to the AVR but the DVD (mkvs) or Netflix (WMC plugin) are showing up as PCM.

What I expected to see was some type of 5.1 feed for at least the DVDs and possibly the Netflix feed.

Is there a setting in Shark007's to control this?

Thanks
post #4430 of 4641
On the Misc TAB of the Shark007 Settings Application is a button to [Analyze a media file]
Use that on a DVD rip that shows pcm audio to verify it does in fact contain multi-channel ac3 or dts audio
aac and mpeg audio do not bitstream.

netflix does not use codecs (directshow filters) which is what my software installed.

Confirmed with 2 fast 2 furious
Audio
ID : 2
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Mode extension : CM (complete main)

Shows up as DD. Everything is working as expected then. Thanks for the feedback.

The DVD wasn't a DVD-Video, it was a DVD data disc. Sorry for the confusion, I should have mentioned that.

I've copied the files to my media server. Then, using My Movies, I added "An Idiot Abroad' to my collection of TV series. Each episode is linked to the appropriate file. In Media Center, I have a menu choice titled "TV Series". After choosing this option, "An Idiot Abroad" appears in my list of TV series that I can watch/play in Media Center. When I select one of the episodes, I get a blank screen. Eventually a message appears telling me that I'm missing the correct codec to play the video.

I've since re-encoded each episode with RipBot264 and they now play fine in WMC7. I'd still like to know what codec was missing.

I don't believe vanilla WMC supports the MKV file container. To play those files you would need to add codec packs like Shark007's codec pack. This is why I play all my movies and everything else in XBMC and just use WMC for DVR and live TV since it pretty much supports all the file formats and containers my stuff is in.

You might be right, but I've had Shark007 codec pack installed, and I'm playing all my ripped Blu-rays, that have been converted to MKVs, with MC7. So, I've been playing MKVs in MC7 for a long time using the Shark007 codec pack. Now I'm trying to figure out why these particular MKVs won't play in MC7.

I've noticed it happening quite a bit for awhile now. Never used to have that problem. Looks like the problem may be with the guide data. While randomly browsing the guide during normal use, I've noticed on some shows that get re-aired very frequently, you will often see the same episode come up quite a bit...and seemingly at random, sometimes it will say (repeat) in info, and sometimes it won't despite obviously not being a new episode. I'm pretty sure this it what it is stemming from. You could always use the time option which will largely fix that, but you also run the risk of missing an episode if it doesnt air during it's normal time slot...particularly true if scheduled near sporting events.

I put together a HTPC back in January and W7 MC was working fine. After the TV season wound down in May, I was only recording reruns of "Bones". The June recordings do not show up in MC or in folder view. If I do a search the 4 episodes that I recorded in June appear, but only in the search window. Now, I've noticed that none of the July recordings are visible even via search. Did a test recording this morning and nothing appears to have been recorded. Any help appreciated.

Due to some stuttering/hard drive issues I completely re-installed Win7 and WMC7. Now for some reason the volume level is way lower than everything else I have connected to my AVR. The Night Mode is checked and grayed out where I cannot change it. I do not recall this being this way before. Right now I have only WMC with not add-on's at all installed.

Any ideas?

I was running my PC that has a HIS Hightech H467QT512P Radeon HD 4670 IceQ Turbo card, E5200 processor, Gigabyte P31-ES3G MB which has the realtek AC888 audio chip via HDMI into my NAD preamp and everything was working great thanks to previous help in this thread. I bought a new tv so I swapped around some of my gear. Now I am trying to get this working in a similar configuration to what I had before. I am trying to run this PC into my new LG tv via HDMI for the video side. For sound I am trying to run the PC via coaxial to an older receiver. With everything plugged in the windows sound control will let me select the correct playback device of digital audio. However the configure tab is grayed out. It will only let me select the 2 channel setting and that doesn't seem to play any sound. I swear in the past I would go in there and select 5.1 channel audio and be done. Not sure if the problem is the HIS video card or not. I think this is the issue, but I have no clue how to fix it. I thought I was codec issues and was going nuts for the last 2 nights chasing settings on sharkie's etc. I even tried to run a optical cable back from the TV to the receiver to get it to work, but I had the same issue. 2 channel only. First 2 nights with a new TV and I haven't watched a damn thing. BUMMER. Before I got the HIS card I was running a EVGA 8600 GTS and the sound through the coaxial output and successfully running DD and DTS. Thanks for any help.
