I have been following this thread to see how the firmware issue is progressing to correct some shortcomings on the pk950 and in the next two weeks I have to make a decision on a 58-60" plasma and have come down to these two. I'm in Canada and can't find a place that has both of these sets on display to do a comparison. Then I also just saw a Panasonic 58" S2 with a competitive price.
Has anyone had a chance to compare these sets when they were looking to buy? What made you buy the pk950 over these other sets? Originally I had my mind set on the 60PK550 but glare reduction is important to me as it is going in a bright room but not in direct sunlight. Thanks for any input.

Anybody know what the chances of this set going on sale during July 4th weekend might be? I know Labor Day and Memorial Day have big sales, but does the 4th?

I so want to pull the trigger and splurge on this thing.

I was looking at the pk550 as well but decided on the 950. I love the look of the pk950 with it's single sheet of glass and the nice blacks. I compared the pk50 to a Panasonic vt20 that was right beside it. The Panasonic looked better but it cost hundreds more. Against the Panny s2, the s2's picture didn't seem as sharp and it looked washed out. It could have been the s2's settings since it was located in another showroom.

In terms of glare, the Panny > 950 > 550. The difference between the 950 and the 550 was noticeable. Maybe you could purchase the 550, try it out, and swap it for a 950 is the glare is too bad on the 550.

What about the 750???

I personally didn't see a difference between the 550 and the 750 when it came to reflections in my home. Though some other posters said that 750 has some form of AR coating.

Well I got my 750 for the price of a 550 so not Hurt to me and even in a bright room I have no issues.

750 must have some anti-reflective properties then as my 550 is literally a mirror when I have the overhead lights on.

I must be one of the lucky ones. My 60" PK950 right out of the box has been great ever since I plugged it in. No halos, ringing...just a great picture.

For people who have the 950, can you comment on the widgets? Are the worth having or not really? (Aside from Netflix. Already use that).

What exactly is Framechannel?

With the Ebay widget, can you bid on items, do searches, or monitor your own ebay auctions on the TV?

I got my PK950 yesterday, movies etc look amazing very happy.

However, once I hooked up my xbox 360 I see what I think is called phosphor trailing. It's like a fuzzy green/gray lag when turning and looking around. This is especially noticeable in dark games.

It there anything I can do to reduce this?

Got my pk950 delivered on Saturday. The delivery men opened the box, put the tv on my stand, and turned it on. No obvious screen problems. A bigger problem was the fact that the full remote was missing from the box. At least the smaller remote was in the box. Picture was set to vivid out-of-the-box. Switched it to THX Cinema and it looked much better.

Text on my htpc looked a little soft compared to my lcd Samsung.

I'm happy with my purchase so far. I'll play with the settings and try my pc calibration software to improve the pq.

I'm so very upset. I found 2 dead pixels. Called the dealer who emailed the LG sales rep to see what can be done in terms of who will replace the television

In the manual it's states several dead pixels are acceptable I think.

The printed manual that came with the tv makes no reference to dead pixels. Do you have a link?

It's on the cd at least for my 750 it is.

I went through the printed manual as well as the PDF manual. I didn't see anything about dead pixels at all.

I guess I'll have to wait to see what the dealer says.

I'm considering a few different sets right now (panasonic G2X, samsung C6400/C6500, and the LG PK 750 and LG PK 950). I notice of all these sets the LG PK 950 is the most expensive.

What does it offer for the extra $$$?

I'm doing comparisons and I don't see anything.

I'm sorry to hear that. Other than that, what is your impression of the picture. Does the Trublack filter cut down glare?

I'm not sure if the TruBlack filter cuts down on glare since I use it in a dark room in the basement and my previous tv was a Samsung lcd. When I turn on a lamp that's at the back of the toom, I can see its reflection quite clearly.

In my opinion it does, yes. I was looking at the PK550 in the store and way very annoyed over the glare. I could see myself clearly while watching.

On the PK950 it seems reduced. Actually, I haven't even thought of glare when watching TV. Only when the picture goes completely black do I see the glare.

One thing I have noticed is the picture keeps "snapping" into place. As if the TV is adjusting the size all the time. Anyone have a clue what is going on? I have turned off "Just scan", but it still happens.

do you have the pixel orbiter option enabled?

I have a 50PK950. So far it is great! I had one small bubble in the bezel behind the glass. I didn't notice it when I installed the panel but saw it about one week later. The technician came out and said that they had to replace the entire glass panel. The part is on its way so I'm waiting to have the tech back out to install it. Weird manufacturing defect but I'm glad they are taking care of it. I'm surprised they wouldn't just swap the plasma to save time. But, it'll be interesting to see them take the panel off.

Q: My mother-in-law likes to watch a Japanese OTA (over the air) HD channel. I have my Harmony One programmed to change it to channel 18.2 but I notice if it enters it a second time it switches the channel to 18.2 Digital Cable. It appears that there is no way to shut the digital cable tuner down. I want the digital antenna tuner only to work but I cannot figure it out. Anyone figure this out? In the old days, there was always a scan to select Cable or Antenna. Or there sometimes was a manual switch. Thanks!

For myself, I use the directv HR24 DVR that is connected to a Denon AVR3310ci receiver and then to the plasma all with HDMI cables. I noticed that sometimes I get a lipsync lag but it is usually solved by power cycling the television and DVR. Just thought I'd give a heads up in case anyone else faces the same problem. Power cycling seems to clear up many HDMI issues. When I first installed the configuration, I ported the audio to the PK950 directly through the receiver and it made a high pitched hissing sound in the left channel. I could hear proper audio but it sounded like it was coming out of a can. I thought my speaker on the PK950 was busted but I power cycled everything and then it worked perfectly!

My salesperson spoke with their LG sales rep and they are going to exchange my tv for a new unit. This is great news if the replacement has no problems.

Overall, I really like the tv. It has a noticeably "darker" picture than my Samsung lcd but the picture has more detail.

That's good news and I'm happy to see the price dropping on Amazon. A little more every week. I'm ordering mine when I come back from vacation in about 10 days, so hopefully it will be even lower.

What do you mean with that? I have a small "scratch" behind the glass, but it was on the far side in the "frame", so I really don't care. Did the technician say why it was necessary to replace the glass?

I think proxybox means an air bubble like you sometimes see in a glass you drink from.

It almost looks like a flaw in the glass or it could be that the adhesion of the glass to the bezel did not perform well causing the bubble. It's hard to tell because when you flash a light at it, the flaw shimmers like a diamond. I purchased the television from Onecall.com and they said that since it was past their return period that I should call LG. But they didn't just pass the buck. Onecall pressed that if I had any issues with LG to call them immediately. I called LG and they said a technician had to be sent out to examine it. They certified that it never was dropped or dinged and that the flaw was internal to the bezel. The technician said he would change it since I paid for it. I asked him why they wouldn't just replace the TV and he said that he asked his supervisors and they said that the glass panel was easily replaceable. He now has the part on order and it's supposed to arrive next week.

Anybody have any answers to the channel changing issue I posted?

I purchased the LG PK950 several months ago with the expectation they would be releasing the Skype camera soon. I sent the an email to LG 2 months ago and they told me the expected release date was the end of June. Their reply to my most email is as follows;

I absolutely understand your concern, and will gladly help you with it.

At this time, Skype is not available on any LG televisions. We apologize that the implementation of the Skype feature is taking longer than expected.
We anticipate that this new service will be available on LG HDTVs in late October, but at this time we do not have any indication what models this will entail. We appreciate your patience as we work through this situation.

I can live with the release delay. But considering their announcements at CES and the PK950 is their flag ship plasma I will be in search of other PK950 owners to participate in a class action suit if they don't release the skype camera for the PK950 or provide full refunds. It's the only reason I purchased the tv. I could have purchased a Pana or Samsung and have the camera already.

Onecall has the Skype camera listed under the pk750 accessories. There are also some good pics of it in operation.
