Video Playback for Custom Resolution HELP

I finally decided to try the HDMI route with my Samsung HL-S6187w opposed to my long time use with VGA.

I utilized Nvidia's Resize Desktop for my EVGA 9300/730i onboard and the desktop now fits perfectly via 1862x1002 (1.86:1, opposed to my old 1.78:1). Driver version 8.17.11.9745.

The issue is my movie playback no longer fits 1:1 with pdvd10 and I have black bars all around the movies now. I'm assuming this is due to the new Resolution however I wasn't sure what people did when using custom resolutions via Nvidia's resizing. I'm using Windows 7. The only option I found for my dvd's was to set Windows Media Center to 1080p but then the background skin is the incorrect size.

Is it possible to resize for overscan compensation without changing the 1920x1080p resolution?

Some HL-S models (the later serial numbers) have the ability to disable overscan option using the Just Scan Picture Size option. Does your TV have this option?

Unfortunately my 6187 doesn't offer the desired Just Scan feature. I wish I had that. Overscan is disabled in the SM, via my 87's 12/16/06 firmware which sticks, however it doesn't help provide 1:1. I got 1:1 in the past with a Nvidia 8500 GT which allowed resize without resolution change in an old vista driver, IIRC. Thats the kind of thing I'm looking for, so my Video won't get cropped.

Any other known workarounds besides Nvidia (resolution change) resize or powerstrip?

If Overscan is disabled then you should not be underscanning your output by resizing your desktop since you will get black bars all the way around. Your PC desktop should be set to the native resolution of the TV and this is what you should send it in order to get true 1:1 pixel mapping which is much better then a solution that only provides the appearance of 1:1 pixel mapping.

Overscan is disabled, and 1920 x 1080p is the resolution being sent from the computer. When I disable overscan, there isn't a significant difference anyways. The only way I can get 1:1 is via VGA. HDMI has a significant amount of overscan. Perhaps my set has inherent geometry issues. I'd rather not have a tech come. I am slightly familiar with the SM however I'm not familiar with manual correction via the mirrors.

Any ideas how to send 1920 x 1080p and utilize some type of overscan compensation/correction as my set doesn't have a just scan mode, and overscan is already turned off, without resorting to a desktop resize? I've had no luck with powerstrip.

Apparently Overscan is not turned off in SM as you think since if it was you would not have any with either Component or HDMI interfaces. Overscan is normally never turned on in VGA mode since VGA mode is designed to emulate a computer monito which never overscan.
As long as you can get 1920x1080 in VGA mode there is no real reasont to switch to HDMI. You will not see any difference in resolution and you may not even notice any difference in video color quality.
