I have read about the break in period- what exactly should I do/ not do during that period? ?

Should I be careful watching SD stuff (with side bars) due to image retention in the break-in ?period??????

Basically, if anyone has any advice for a new owner who knows very little about owning a Plasma, I would ?appreciate it!?

I know some folks r running break in slides for a while. The owners guide says "No break in required" so I'm following that mantra. Just my opinion, but set it up and just start using your TV. I wouldn't waste too many brainbytes focusing on break in. It's 2010. These companies have been building TVs for a long time. Oh, by the way, virtually all reputable websites address this subject and none of them, at least the ones I mainly use, are worried at all about it. I set up my TV with Digital Video Essentials as soon as I got it (Looks Fantastic!) Just my opinion. If you r a serious videophile then that's another story. As for me, I've been enjoying my new TV with zero issues so far. Enjoy!

How do you change the black levels on this? Mine is greyed out. I go into picture options...and "HDMI Black Level" is greyed out to "Normal."

Are you guys sure the 96hz cinema smooth is not working correctly?

Recently I watched the Master & Commander Blu-ray and noticed how smooth a certain panning segment was, it looked very good to my eyes!

On what are we basing the cinema smooth not working after the 1026 update?

This new app(FREE), which I believe is the first such 3D app from any manufacturer, is called "Explore 3D". It can be downloaded easily from the app area from any 3D Samsung set and is in "beta" at this time.

There are 5 selections areas: What's New?; Movie Trailers; Video Clips; Premium Videos; Info & Settings.

This beta is being run via the VuDu engine and has a selection of HD(720P) or HDX(1080p)-dependent on your internet speed.

It appears that this may be the first 3D site(app) that will eventually allow streaming full length 3D movies, probably for a fee.

Right now this app only has three 3D clips: Shrek-The Final Chapter; It's Big For A Reason; and How To Train Your Dragon.
The clips are wonderful and seem to be side-by-side presentations. Visual clarity is excellent.

Bravo Samsung!

WooHoo! I just installed it.

Now, if only my backordered 3D glasses would come in

I think people base it on the fact that it affects black levels because in all the content I've watched it was very smooth. It certainly works well enough for me to keep it on.

I must admit my comment was pure sarcasm. I have tried to find the slightest buzz in my display and it simply is not there. I have 2 cooling fans (80mm/5 volt) for my cabinet and I can hear them but nothing from the TV at any distance or any angle.

Have a few questions...

Just got my PN63C8000 set up...have played some w/ the settings.

I have only viewed in 2D...

I have my PS3 as blu-ray player, but also have an XBOX 360 which is the system I primarily play games on.

Anything via the PS3 is gorgeous...games and blu-rays looks awesome!! However, on my 360, it appears things are more dark. I have HDMI cables going from both systems into my Onkyo receiver, and then an HDMI cable from there to television.

What I'm trying to say...is that in dark areas in games...I can see hardly any detail...like it's too dark. I've not compared exact same games, movies, etc. but feel the 360 is not bright enough in certain areas.

I also noticed lag...I've read about a game mode, but from manual that looks like it's just something to edit the name of the source??? Is there anyway to adjust lag for gameplay?

Thx in advance.

Glad to hear you were being sarcastic. From some posts, the "buzz" seemed to be a major concern. I read larger plasmas were worse...I got the 63", and no problem. I DID hook up both magnets...making sure to loop cord for both of them, and hooked them up per the directions in booklet. I also have my tv on a stand and the tv sits about 18" or so from the wall. The book states that distance from wall will have an impact on observed audibleness of buzz.

To eliminate the lag, you need to use "game mode".
Press "menu", then select "setup", then select "general", last select "game mode". It actually makes a big difference.

THANKS!! Lag issue is helped. But, what about darker levels on the 360? Wondering if...my HDMI cable, way 360 outputs video, etc. Again, it just seems a little too dark in some areas. I've played a few games...very short amounts of time, and all look good, but just feel detail is lacking in dark areas (needs to be brighter I believe to see detail).

I also have a 360 and PS3 hooked up to my 63C8000, though my 360 is through component cables and not HDMI. I have them plugged directly into the TV and an optical audio cable from both systems into my receiver. Totally different picture settings for each, obviously because one is HDMI and one is through component. Your PS3 and 360 are outputting different video signals, even though they r both HDMI, meaning the have different processors, graphics cards, etc., so it's not surprising one is darker than the other. I don't think anything is wrong, just need to adjust brightness for the 360. Just my two cents. As for game mode. It does make a big difference (just about totally eliminated lag for me). You need to go into picture settings and turn it on (it will be obvious when it turns on because your TV will flash off and on). It eliminates the TV doing it's own processing so it minimzes lag. You'll go back to your settings after turning it on and notice it has switched to "Standard" mode. Noticeable difference (I play primarily first person shooters). I used the Digital Video Essentials DVD to do my own amateur calibration and I think it looks fantastic. I use the PS3 for Blu-Ray so when I want to watch a movie I turn game mode off and it automatically reverts back to Cal-Day mode (used Plasma TV Buying Guide settings as a start and tweaked it with DVE). For the 360 I only use "Game" mode.

You can adjust your "reference" levels on your 360, and see if that helps. Go to system settings, then display settings. I have mine set to "standard".

I just read that Sony has announced a delay in the "3D update" for the PS3. It has been pushed back to October.
Bummer.

delete the login info from the t.v. and it should connect then.

at least on mine anyway, pandora didn't like being authorized with the code the t.v. gives you and your login info (username/pass) on the internet.tv/settings screen at the same time.

I'm having similar issues, but also with Facebook and Twitter. See my posts regarding this below. Let me know if you get yours to work.

As ElectronicTonic says, set the xbox360's HDMI reference levels to standard. By default it should be standard.

If still no good, try changing the 360's HDMI colour space from RGB to YCbCr709 or vice versa.

If this still doesn't help check the brightness/contrast/gamma setting in the actual game itself and reset it to default.

HI guys,

We just bought this TV for our family room setup today (ordered online from Crutchfield). We'll be hanging the TV on a wall above a fireplace, between two bookshelves using a Sanus mount.

The TV will just fit height-wise above the fireplace mantle (with about an inch on top and an inch below the TV to spare). It will leave me with about 13 inches on either side of the TV.

My plan was to buy two standing speakers for the L and R channels to sit on the mantle on either side of the TV. After that, my dilemma is there is no room for a separate center channel based on my setup. Does anyone know if I can hook the TV up to my Marantz receiver and have it be the center channel?

If this is a poor choice, or can't be done, does anyone have other ideas I should be exploring?

Thanks for your help!

Not a great choice, IMO. I experimented with this, long ago with another TV, and was never happy with the sound. But if your equipment has the right inputs and outputs, give it a try. Compare it with the "phantom center" you get if you just tell your AVR that there is no center speaker -- then it will spread the center channel signal out between your left and right speakers.

Just a heads up,
flatpanelshd.com just released thier review for the 8000 that has some tips and set points some of you may be interested in.

OK, so the Panasonic wins...

Be interesting to see if the CNET shootout that comes out this week comes to the same conclusion...

FlatpanelsHD says that the black levels of the TV are higher in standard than they are in movie mode. True?

You mean lighter, not higher.....

"I found that the TV has far worse black level reproduction in the Standard picture mode. When you switch to the Movie mode black reproduction is improved considerably."

Same thing. They measured black levels in numbers. The higher the number, the lighter the black level. So is this true or what?

You don't trust them? They just proved it in the review.

Did you read the part of the review where they took readings and numbers?

Wins what??
It has better black levels(this has been discussed to death), what else?

It's black levels are 4 times darker... and several others...

Did you read the article?

And I am not here to bash the Samsung, until two days ago I was rigorously deciding between both...

As the review said, the Samsung is a very good TV and almost comes close to the Panasonic...
