I just passed over 100 hours use so the set should be ready to go in that regards (I was hoping buzzing would reduce but no dice). I have Avatar on blu-ray so if you let me know a specific scene that you have noticed this blur or whatever I can take a look at it for you tonight.

Great! I will play the Avatar blu-ray tonight and give you an exact time to go to where I think I see motion blur...

Movie mode
cinema smooth ON
motion judder OFF

I don't know what time in the movie it is, but basically in the very beginning when the army leader is walking down the aisle and talking to the soldiers and then abruptly turns around, I feel that there is motion blur around his head (he says something about a joo joo bug).

I'll get the exact time tonight so that you guys can try!

when you say motion blur, do you mean pixilation?

Well, I wouldn't say "pixelation", I think I've seen that before...

Imagine putting a pair of glasses on that aren't for you, and it's hard for you to focus on the image... It's really hard to explain, actually... :-(

I just feel that the image almost moves so quickly that the camera can't keep up with it and thus my eyes just can't focus on what's happening....

Okay guys, I'm back at home now and was able to do a few tests with the Avatar blu-ray disc.

Can those of you with PN58C/PN63C/PN50C 8000's do the following:

1) Insert your Avatar disc.
2) Put the TV in BD-WISE or MOVIE mode.
3) Put it on Cinema Smooth Mode (motion judder canceller OFF)

Go to the following time in the disc (during the You're Not In Kansas Anymore chapter):
6:55

You'll see the commander walk down the hall and turn his head around. THAT's where I see the motion blur. I actually had my wife look at this scene and she doesn't call it blur, but rather judder/jumpiness. Can you guys please confirm that you see the same thing?

NEXT:

Please view the same scene with Cinema Smooth mode OFF and Motion Judder Canceller set to STANDARD. During this mode, my wife and I agreed that the same judder/blur wasn't there / nearly as bad!

Can you guys please try this? Is this normal?!

Thanks!

Ryan

Ryan,

To check for motion blur the best way to do is to pause as soon as you see it and if the freeze frame looks blurry then it is the source. You can also forward /reverse frame by frame and see if the head motion stays blurry for a while. As I said 24p film has a lot of blur and judder inherently. If the freeze frame suddenly become clear while motion is not, then it is the TV.

Why then were Kuro's and Pannies buzz free units when wall mounted? I'll tell you why, they found a way around it and Sam couldn't care less!

I rember Kuros first gen had some major buzzing issues. people were posting all over the Kuro thread that their tv had a loud buzz. Mine so far has a very slight buzz, and it didnt start buzzing till i mounted it. but its so slight i really don't notice at all to be honest, unless i have everything off and room is all qiuet and i am standing right by it.

Just got an email from ABT. My PN63C8000 has shipped. Maybe I'll get it in time for the world cup.

That's great! I'm calling today to see if mine will be shipping soon. I'm scheduled to switch from Dish to DirecTV on June 1st so if I get the TV soon i can really be ready for 3D. My new home theater seats will be here in one-two weeks and so will my stand...I may get the TV before they arrive...what an unpleasant surprise!! I don't know though as I was told I'm #23 on the list

when did you order? I ordered 5/16 and wasn't told my exact position on the list, just that there were roughly 20 people ahead of me.

just chatted online with ABT, CSR said they are still expecting a shipment around mid June.

I have some hope for everybody who pre-ordered @ Abt...I just spoke to them. they only got 10 in this time. Next week they are scheduled to get in more than enough to cover current pre-orders!!!! It's supposed to be early next week, but due to the holiday it may be mid-week or at the end of the week. We may get to see the world cup from the beginning after all!

Congrats! let us know how everything turns out. With the items I've gotten from them their extra packaging is great, so hopefully the TV wouldn't be any different.

I tried both scenarios out.

The option with Cinema Smooth on and MJC Off. I didnt notice any blur really. More like the focus was lost on his face as he turned it for a split second. I think that is just inherint to the fact that its running at 24 FPS. I am not knowledgeable in this area so someone please correct me if I am wrong.

WHen I turn MJC on, everything is super smooth and soap opera like. In some ways I kind of like this affect but overall its just too weird because I am not used to this affect.

I wonder if this smooth Soap Opera affect will ever catch on and future movies will have this instead of the 24 FPS?

Thanks for testing this out! Yes, not so much "blur" but rather an "out of focus" camera effect. I just wanted to make sure you experienced the same thing (another user on another forum also experienced the same effect). This "out of focus" camera effect is what I notice on a lot of content (whether HD or blu-ray) with MJC OFF.

Last night I tried popping in an older blu-ray (Chronicles of Narnia) and turned on the MJC and turned off Cinema Smooth. I still noticed quite a bit of judder/blur on that older blu-ray disc. However, the Avatar disc is super smooth with MJC ON. I wonder if this setting works better for newer blu-ray discs, and poorly for older blu-ray discs / HD programming on TV?

Everyone, our couch is 9ft from our TV (currently a 58inch plasma). I want to get the 63 inch but worry about it being 'too large' in frame and also the change to expose the pixels/grainness to us during playback. Also, the 58inch price is 1k less than the 63. Is is worth it to get those 5 extra inches?
if you are happy with the 58" you have now, why would you go larger and risk poorer quality? Unless you truly feel like you need a bit more, i wouldn't do it. I'll be the same distance away and 63" feels like it would be too big, that's why i'm picking up the 58".

My couch is 10 ft from our tv. I currently have a 43" plasma, and it is too small. This is why I'm getting the 63". I think the bigger the better. Of course, I doubt I'll see pixels or grainness 10 ft away. Plus I'm not planning to buy another tv for at least 5 more years, so might as well go for a big one.

i set 12 to 15 feet away and the 58 is a great size .. don't think i would want bigger ... ( ok not that true, but more like don't feel like I need bigger)

Regarding the smear, it is independent of settings. I think I am much more knowledgeable than a novice (bit of a audiophile myself ), and I have tried every settings. The artifact happens with any settings on AMP and even off. I have even turned off every processing and I still see it. During motion (sometimes even moderate to slow), the adjacent colors tend to blur together a bit and/or I would see a trail or smear behind the moving image. It happens mostly on dark objects (like people's suit, head with dark hair, etc) against lighter backgrounds mostly brown/gray, etc. However, I have noticed that this smear is more pronounced when the subject is slightly off focus. Like for example, if someone's head is moving against a light brown wall and it is slightly out of focus (typical 24p movie blur), instead of seeing a normal blur at the trailing edge of his/her head, I would see a slight dark trail which is not normal. I have seen the same scene on a Sony LCD and it shows a normal blur and not a trailing effect. Similarly if someone's face is moving sideways and is slightly out of focus, the part of the lighter skin next to their hair looks darker than usual (due to the trailing effect from the darker hair) while the head is in motion and it immediately reverts back to the original lighter color when the head stops moving. Finally, when I watch hockey, I think the white ice background, exacerbates this issue, where I clearly see smearing/streaking of their jersey/helmet colors as they are skating from time to time. I see this mostly during movies because the situation I discussed shows up all the time in scenes. I have had all the electronics changed in my TV except the power supply and also went through two panels and the problem is still there. Therefore, I am convinced that it is a design artifact of this TV. Not sure, if it is a panel artifact or a processing artifact.

Typically I have every processing off, sharpness all the down and movie settings (I calirbrated using S&M disc) and AMP at blur 10 and judder 2 or 3. But like I said, it happens regardless of settings.

Well if you want the least amount of artifacts then you MUST not have judder at 2 or 3. You should have it at zero. Also, you will occasionally see artifacts with the blur at 10. Try blur at 7 or perhaps 8, and judder at 0. With these settings, if you are still bothered, then I can't help you. Get rid of the TV and get a PDP.

Those settings are only for LCD/LED displays. Not Plasma.
