Line bleed or "banding" is very common on plasmas of all brands and sizes.

I have it on my 63C8000 too.

I only notice this only on commercials and on menu screens. Its really not a big deal at all. If you exchange it, the new one will do exactly the same thing and it may be a buzzer.

In 2 months of owning the TV, I've never noticed it while watching a movie, tv show, or playing a video game.

I watch a lot of hockey and I've yet to notice it.

Its inherent to plasma technology, although I think it doesn't happen on Kuros.

Enjoy your set.

does anyone know if it is possible to downgrade to an older firmware??
No, you cannot.

Why would you want to?

It's not line bleed I'm talking about...even though this TV has it too. It's horizontal & vertical banding zones that you can see on a all white or light colored background. I noticed it immediately while running the Plasma break-in DVD.

I have one band zone on the top 1/3 of the screen. Its only noticeable on an all white screen and on the right hand side.

Both of my 63C8000's had pretty much the same line.

Its nothing that I ever notice unless I'm looking for it.

I have 5 visible horizontal band zones equally spaced and 1 noticeable vertical band on the right side of the screen

Is that similar as Blotching? As I have seen that on Kuros. What I mean as uneven colors or like black shades that are darker.

Instead of worrying about banding on all white backgrounds which we don't watch, why not worry about regular viewing conditions? Do you notice it while watching regular shows? If not, then does it really matter?

Unfortunately all these sets have some minor quirks but I really wonder if the people here ever really watch their TV instead of just looking at the pixels. Talk about missing the forest for the trees...

Yea dude I totally agree with you.. Who cares about how good your tv displays calibration test patterns, how good did Monday night football look is enough for me. These are 2000 dollar tv's not $5000 pioneers!

I have both the 63C8000 and a Samsung b950 series LED LCD. The plasma seems to have a better picture but is 70% as bright as the 950. Is this normal or do I have a problem.

You kinda answered the question yourself. Plasma in general has better PQ and LCD is almost always brighter. Just because the picture is brighter doesn't mean it's gonna be better.

I just wanted to know if my set was defective. If this is something that all PNC8000 TV's have, then I can live with it since it's nowhere near as bad as the banding on the LG LEX9500. The banding is visible when I watch the 3D animated films (Monsters vs. Aliens, Monster House, Ice Age...) For sports, there's too much going on in the game for me to even care about flaws on the TV.
It would just be nice to know that my 3.5K investment is working up to it's full potential.

If however I configure the bd player to emit only 2D it is no longer grainy. Both devices have latest firmwares.

Thanks for letting me know. Thought something was wrong with my tv. Its a sham that it looks grainy when the player outputs 3D and you wanna change between 3D to 2D. Since when the player outputs the 3D it looks a whole lot better than having the t.v. convert from 2D to 3D.

I'm looking for some smart advice as to whether it's better to turn the panel off and on 2-4 time per day, or if its better to turn it on in the morning and leave it on. Considerations should include wear and tear on the panel and also overall energy consumption.

I work upstairs in my home and the panel is downstairs, but I usually check in on the news 2-4 time during the day. I see all sorts of eco settings, but it seems the ideal one for me is some sort of 'sleep' setting after x minuted of inactivity, which I don't think it has. Your thoughts?

I need some advice. I have decided on the samsung 58" 8000 series 3d. I need advice on the blu ray player, 3d starter kit (both free at best buy) and a surround sound system. Does it make sense to stay with samsung from best buy for the whole kaboodle?

Of course! You'reu buying one of the best tv's on the planet! I'm buying mine for about 400 dollars less than at my local BB is offering. And it comes with the 3D package. In fact, with a 5yr warranty it's still less then BB! MSRP on the 58" is 2699 or 2799 and BB isn't selling it for much less than that I believe.

I don't think a TV would be allowed into the market if it can't pass the "normal wear and tear 101" test. Even if you were to place the TV in sleep mode, it would be the same as turning it on and off, wouldn't it?

BTW, it's also okay to turn off your car after you park it in the garage. I do believe it's preferred over leaving it on all day after your morning errands and killing whatever is inside the garage.

No, it doesn't make sense to stay with all Samsung or to purchase the whole package from Best Buy. I would definitely hunt for deals on the web as they are plenty of them around. If Best Buy wants your business, they should be willing and able to compete to whatever is the best price that you find.

Of course, there's also convenience, service and many other factors involved when you make large purchase decisions... but only you can answer if the Best Buy near you is on par with all the other factors mentioned.

I think you should get the package bundle. Another brand's Blu Ray player might be nice to have since it will have different apps from the TV. If you get all one brand, you will have the same apps for the most part. If you want a
Sony or Panasonic player, you can always sell your Samsung Blu Ray player unopened on craigslist or ebay.

Just got my "How to Train Your Dragon" 3D Bluray movie today. It took less than 2 weeks from the date I filled out the online form. Nice!!

The only problem with the 3D is that my glasses lose sync a few times during any 3D movie. I just power them off and back on...I wonder if it's the glasses or the TV that is the problem. I tried using tape on the sensor on the glasses but that didn't work.

Same thing happened to me. 4 pairs total. 2 worked fine and two lost sync. I'm getting the bad pairs replaced. It's not the TV. The two bad pairs came with the starter kit. The two good pairs are standalone.

thanks. good to know. for the standalone pair, are they the rechargeable kind or battery-operated?

I tried taking a picture of the horizontal and vertical banding zones on my TV with my iPhone to post here but I keep getting weird yellow/orange stripes that show up on the photos, like some sort of interference. What is that?

If you have already purchased the tv, I believe the only way you can buy them is on eBay. The How to Train your Dragon 3D movie came as a voucher in the 3D Kit, which is a ripoff if you buy it as a standalone as you can get the glasses for a lot cheaper if you buy them on eBay.

I've had 2 tv's with the horizontal lines, getting a third one on Wednesday. On mine it looks like they had problems with with glass not the display. And it is not just noticable on test screens but whenever there is a white background in regular veiwing. Both of mine where manufacture on Sept. 2010 in Mexico.

if the horizontal lines are on the glass, then it's normal. that's the true black filter

I was hoping for advice that considers both energy consumption and the overall life of the panel. So you're claiming that over say a 6 hour period, I'll maximize energy savings (utlity bill) AND won't in any way compromise the life of the panel by turing it on/off 4 times- compared to just leaving it on. Right? Do others agree?

Updated from firmware 1030.1 to 1032 and now the samsung screensaver logo kicks on every 10-15 minutes or so. Samsung need to get their act together. Now- trying to figure a way to revert to 1030 if at all possible without calling service or wait for a fix. My tv cannot be the only one experiencing this issue? Who else has noticed this? Damn Samsung- where is the software quality control? Do they test before releasing a revision ?
