Are you using the screen saver mode or something? I didn't realize there was one. I upgraded to 1032 and did not experience this hiccup. Instead of trying to downgrade the firmware because you can't, you can probably resolve the issue by checking your settings or calling Samsung support.

Right? Do others agree?

Fine, I'll bite. How soon do you expect your product to die if you turn it on/off multiple times within a 6 hour period on a daily basis? How much longer would you expect it to last if you operate it in a different manner?

Thanks for biting Actually, that's what I'm asking. For example, with your PC, many will say to eat the wasted energy costs of turning on/off only once a day, versus turning it on/off 6 times a day. The wear and tear issue out-ways the energy waste issue. The further advice might be, but use the power management settings that turn off your monitor after X minutes, and turns off your hard drive after X hours.

So what are the comparable issues/settings/rules-of-thumb with a PNxxC8000? Do you still really think my question has no merit?

I don't see 1032 online?
I purchased a 58 incher and hope to have it delivered soon. I've been researching glasses for it alot recently, as well, but I can't decide. There are vague rumors of Samsung releasing new glasses or perhaps silently upgrading their current line. There are conflicting reports on the new XpanD X103 glasses providing a brighter image compared to the Samsung branded glasses. The 3DHeaven Ultraclear glasses are an option to consider, too.

Anyone have opinions or experience on the best set to go with (especially for a perscription eyewear user)?

Actually 1032 is an Internet update only. 1030.1 is on the website. So no one has tried to revert from 1032 to 1030 via USB key?
Guys - just chatted with a Samung tech and he informed me that a firmware revert is possible if required. He referred me to the Alternate upgrade method on page 28 of the user manual. We also did a completed reset by holding the "exit" key for 10 seconds. I am waiting for the problem to reoccur before downgrading back to 1030.1 from 1032 . I will post my results later.

Hi everyone,

After a lot of research the PN63C8000 as is top pick and I'm considering purchasing it. A few questions please:

1) Looks like this set has been out since about June? Do you think we may see an updated model within the next couple of months, perhaps around the Christmas holiday? I'd hate to buy now only to find in a few months an updated model...

2) I am an experienced calibrator and was wondering what types of controls there are. Am I correct that this has a 6 color CMS? Does the CMS allow adjustment of not only "x" and "y" but also "Y" (luminance) as well? Does it allow for custom gamma curves (i.e. 11 or 20 point grayscale control)?

3) From reading this thread it sounds like the calibration is lost when updating the firmware. That's not ideal but just wanted to confirm that's what happens.

4) Has anyone tried playing 3D content through a AVR which is only rated for HDMI 1.3a? I've head that will work as long as the source is HDMI 1.4 or a PS3. True?

5) Where do you guys recommend buying the TVs from online? Any place with an unconditional money back guarantee (no questions asked)? Has anyone found that Best Buy will price match online retailers?

Thanks everyone!

Nelson, my 63 will be set up on Monday. Could you or any forum member tell me if upgrading firmware erases all settings? If so, do you recommend upgrading before advanced settings are implemented? Please accept my apology if this issue has already been addressed. I'm a new member here and haven't quite got the hang of the search function. Thanks.

Thanks everyone!

Crutchfield has 60 day return policy on "Signature" products. However, if you return because you don't like the set, you must pay the shipping fee. Not the best prices but outstanding customer support and service.

I'd hate to buy now only to find in a few months an updated model... Thats ok since you never know how much the differences will be in terms of cost and if its worth it, usually its better overall to buy the unit this time since all that time of waiting you could have been enjoying it.
4) Has anyone tried playing 3D content through a AVR which is only rated for HDMI 1.3a? I've head that will work as long as the source is HDMI 1.4 or a PS3. True? YES I have not seen that as a problem but maybe someone can chime in and prove me wrong.

Just do some research on the company and return policy and their ratings and obviously weigh it against the cost.I have not see BB do that and if they do they try to push you other services so they can offset the total price.

Firmware upgrade does not erase settings. I've done it twice and the settings remained the same. If you go into the service menu then your settings will reset (I actually did this).

Anybody know what 1032 does?

RC, thank you very kindly for your response. Wonder why Samsung doesn't provide more info on firmware upgrades-like what they are designed to enhance or correct?

Not according to most reputable reviews. Nothing rivals the Kuros. But you pay dearly for that level of performance. Most reviews also indicate the Panny VT 25 series also has better black levels but with the company's acknowledgment of fading black issues and the extra $700-1000 price tag (over Samsung), one wonders about the long term performance.

Just got back from BestBuy, both of their PN58C8000 and PN63C8000 buzz. I'm 15 and have very good hearing, so I don't know if an exchange through Amazon is worth it. My dad can't hear it, but he's 59 and has ringing in his ears.
The TC-P58VT25 is tempting, but it's more expensive, still has rising/floating black issues, and is ugly compared to the Sammy PNC8000. Not to mention that I even heard some buzzing from the VT25, not as loud as the 63" and 58" PNC8000 though. I'd probably get the LG 60PK950, but the input lag has been reported at 60ms by AVForum, at least for the PK990 (Europe model). Any idea's guys? I'm starting to loose hope of ever enjoying an HDTV without some major defect ruining the whole experience.
After being set on a C7000/C8000 for a while, I've moved on to considering other plasmas. The main contender now is the PK950. I also do quite a bit of gaming, so I've been looking for reports of IL on the official owners threads. While I'm not seeing extensive reports, most of the ones that game said they don't notice any issues. The numbers in professional reviews may show it, but for me, it comes down to what the consumers have to say.
Can I please remind everyone to please just realize nothing is perfect and if you worry about the great picture you will forget all about any noise. Does nobody remember the high pitch noise that crt makes.
I got my PN58C8000 today and it's more than I hope it would be! My god is this TV unreal! I watched the Heat play and it looked incredible! I also played COD Black Ops both multiplayer and campaign and this input lag is a bunch of nonsense.. COD plays just like my 4yr old 56" Samsung DLP! Except the picture is amazing! I also played NBA 2K11 to see how it's fast action would hold up and again, no lag what so ever! One thing though, I'm playing in dynamic mode and I can't seem to find game mode and cinema smooth feature?!? I don't see why i would need it considering how great the PQ is and no lag. Just for reference I tried Cnet's calibration settings and some other sites setting and they kinda suck... Tweaked standard and dynamic looks amazing! Oh, and not a single buzz at all! It's 2am right now and I'm playing COD and still unable to here this so called buzz. And again, this TV is just beautiful. I'm soooo freaking glad I chose this model! And a free 3D Blu-Ray player with 2 sets of glasses a some movies is a plus! Also got a 5yr in home warranty for $250. Today felt like Christmas when I was a kid all over again. So anyone that's on the fence about this TV, should just get it. My buddy has the 60PK950 but this TV eats it for lunch all day! No comparison!
Agreed- firmware updates do not erase your settings. Just wanted to note that my 1032 firmware screensaver issue is gone after a "reset". It was weird, a blue samsung logo bouncing around the screen. I thought this was the screen burn autoprotection feature which was actually off whe this was occurring ( not to be confused with the pixel orbiter ). Anyway- it's all set. As for playing games on this panel- it's really a great gaming panel. I played COD black ops for 3 hours last night... Lag is not an issue with this set. It's very responsive and the depth of color is impressive. I had a samsung 52A750 LCD prior to this set... This blows it away for gaming ( for anything actually).

Great, congrats! Does every set come with a free 3D Blu-Ray player and 2 sets of glasses? Or was this a special deal from the place you bought it from? Any recommendations on where to buy it to get the same deal?

Where did you get the warranty from? Does it cover burn-in?

Thanks!

What types of things have proven necessary to go into the service menu for? Are all the calibration controls (grayscale, gamma, Color Management System etc) available in the user menus?
I've always heard that Plasmas can suffer from burn in. My kids easily can leave the DVR paused and walk away from the set, with me finding it hours later like that.

Does the set have some sort of burn-in protection that puts up its own screen saver of sorts if it detects the same image has been up too long? Assuming so, and I enable this feature, and I sure not to have an issue with burn-in?

You cant see the 100ms lag with Game mode off? :P
Game Mode is under Setup->General->Game Mode
With game mode on the lag is just 15-20ms which is basicly one frame in 60Hz.

Cinema Smooth can only be used with 24Hz material. For other material use Auto1 mainly or Auto2 if there is problems (shouldnt be any).

AV Forums has posted a review today of the UK PS50C7000 (same as US PN50C8000)
http://www.avforums.com/review/Samsu...ma-Review.html

Excellent results! Very good out-of-the-box settings. It havent be this good with other reviews. Maybe the firmware updates have done something to this. Specially the couple ones that has reset the settings.
I dont know how its possible not to notice the input lag. Its the first thing I noticed the first time i fired up the 360. Even selecting things in the menu was bad. Its really really bad. Game Mode makes it 1000 times better and there simply isn't any perceivable lag.
