I did it... I went with the 63 inch as well.... I guess the 58 would have been fine, but the 63" will fit as well.

I do not care much for the Shrek Movies so I will try to find a How to Train your Dragon 3D starter kit, I will keep my eyes open for black Friday, saw a few on ebay, but still too much

Yes, I did. I got the 2 year warranty.

I figured for a TV costing this much it was worth the $220.

By the way. I really don't worry too much about burn in and IR. It seems that most people that are concerned have never had a plasma. On my sammy 5064 I do get IR but it goes away pretty quick.

Also got the player and bundle for free. However, they are trying to give me the 5900 player and I'm trying to find a way to get the 6900.

Any opinions?

If it's a price you can live with, just go for it. I just picked up a 58" 8000 panel a couple of weeks ago st my local BB/Magnolia. The next day it dropped $100.00 on the web site. I tried to return the 5900 br player that was bundled for an open box 6900, but they wouldn't due to the "bundling". I suspect they just don't want to give the accounting dept headaches.

The screen is phenomenal and I upgraded from a kxbr34960, a reference crt. I took advantage if their 3 years same as cash and the bundle which all in all I think is a good deal. I'm using my ps3 with the big screen and put the 5900 to use in the bedroom.

Oh, NO buzzing whatsoever. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it.

BB charges way to much for there extended warranty! In West Palm Beach there is a BrandsMart right next to a BB and there 5yr plan is only $250 and it covers burn in and IR no questions asked. And BB only goes to 4yrs. BB = MSRP!

One thing I like in particular about the BB warranty is that it is a full replacement value, not a prorated market value. For instance, as I understand it, if my set can't be fixed or is deemed too costly to fix (likely if there is an issue in more than a year or two) then they have to replace the set with something comparable in specs. Which you know in x years is going to be even better than what I have now.

Whereas I think with other typical warranties you pay less for they only give you market value or a prorated amount of what your set was worth. I could be wrong about this, but that ishw I understand it.

We have the 3D Dragon bundle. Problem is with the high end units, black friday does not effect there price. Usually the junk tv's are the blow outs.

For anyone following along with my troubles getting the Samsung to pass the network gateway ping test (and therefore not able to connect the set to the net) I finally gave up and ran an Ethernet cable to the set. Problem solved.

It was a major pain to do and took several hours, which is why I was trying to use a universal wireless dongle in the first place. I didn't try the Samsung dongle because it was pricier and I wanted to create a setup with a network switch so I could connect my Blu-ray too.

It was a lot of work but with hindsight I'm kind of glad it worked out this way. I prefer a hardwired connection to eliminate the occasional wireless dropout or connection issues (could be real annoying during a movie).

Might try http://www.squaretrade.com. They are cheaper than the Best Buy warranty and cover full replacement value. They get really good reviews on Amazon, etc. I have our Kindle and PN50C8000 covered by them.

Note that there is often a 20-40% off coupon out there also for SquareTrade. (Or if you bought your Samsung from Amazon you can buy a SquareTrade warranty from Amazon at an every more reduced price.)

Buying was easy... And their replacement process is very streamlined. (Although I've never had to use it yet fortunately. You even upload your receipt to them and they store it for you in case you lose it.)

I also went through the trouble of running Ethernet to my home theatre and I'm glad I did. Everything wants Internet nowadays: TV, BDP, DVR, AVR. I put a five-port switch in my rack and it's already full.

Is there any real need to put a gigabit capable router in? I'm not really streaming raw BD rips, but would be sending 1080P content over to the PS3.

Are there any parental controls available on this set? If so, where are they located? I can't seem to find anything about it in the menus. I did see a security area which wants like a 16 digit pin but not sure what that is for...

The only reason you'd need a gbit switch is if you had gbit interfaces on you gear. If your tv, avr etc., are only 100mb then there's no point.

just ordered a 63" 8000 series plasma from best buy.

i spent the morning driving from store to store to see what was going on with the current sales.

best buy sales guys were nice enough and the store was pretty empty. they had a nice sale price (which i cannot list due to thread rules if i understand correctly) for the bundle with the 5900 bluray player and dragons+glasses package.

next i went to 6th Ave Electronics. THE WORST electronics store i've been in to date. this was my second visit and both times i got a douche of a salesman. they didn't have the 8000, so the salesman wasted half an hour of my time trying to sell me an LG. then he moved over to a Panasonic. i told him i wanted the Samsung for 2d-to-3d conversion for gaming. he insisted the Panasonic had that feature. i insisted it did not. he looked so deperate it was kind of sad. "i really hope we get your business" was how he ended our conversation.

PC Richards has a better price on the same bundle as best buy (i think someone else already mentioned this). i was very close to buying from PC Richards, but i read online they are more likely to give problems with returns or servicing... don't know how true that is, but i got a bad vibe from the store and was in an argument with the sales guy last time i went in there.

I tried to get Best Buy to price match the PC Richards deal, but there were no online or flyer ads to refer too so i was unsuccessful

Also tried Electronics Expo, but their price posted on the tv was ridiculously high (even if it was a bundle) and there were few salesmen working - great way to stay in business to have 2 salesmen in the entire store during thanksgiving week, one of them unpacking boxes and looking disinterested in the customers.

As i mentioend, Best Buy was pretty empty and fairly quite. I did my best to listen for buzz from any of the plasmas but couldn't hear any. i'm very nervous about that. my ears are somewhat shot, so i don't think it'll be a problem for me.

If i understood the salesman correctly, i have until some time in January to return the tv with no return/restocking fee if i'm not satisfied. That alone was reason enough for me to go through Best Buy. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that though - i'm really looking forward to this tv..... next thursday can't come soon enough

Great you had so many options. I cannot even see one, from any store, the only place that has a 7000 is 4.5 hour round trip. I had to go with Amazon, but they have a great return policy, and Amazon did a PM from the Slick Deals price from US-Appliance

CPS and Mack Camera warranties are cheaper than Square Trade usually. CPS and Mack Camera are also backed by a seperate insurance company's. I think I trust Mack Camera the best, they have been in business since 1938....

If you had multiple 100Mb computers on the network, with a 1Gb switch, they could all transfer data at 100Mb. With a 100Mb switch, they would have to share that 100Mb.

My pn58c8000 just shipped from Amazon and is schedule to land later next week. I am excited!!!

I was shopping around and considered some of the other popular plasma's and even some LED/LCD's but this TV is the one I chose.

My last tv is a 32" Black Friday special from years back so this is going to be a HUGE improvement!

I read on the Samsung site that their plasma's do not require any breaking in any longer. Seems like most people here do it so I am going to be researching and reading around.

Hope I don't get a buzzer!

i was looking to buy hdmi cables to be ready for my tv delivery next week... started searching at monoprice.com (as everybody seems to recommend it) and discovered that there are "hdmi+ethernet" cables. i had never heard of this before.

had a hard time figuring out if my c8000 could make use of these. finally found this in the samsung owners manual:

"A basic high-speed HDMI cable or one with ethernet is recommended. This product does not support the ethernet function via HDMI."

seems a bit odd - sort of like a contradiction. why recommend ethernet enabled cables if the tv does not support it? is it possible a firmware update will enable this feature? i figure it would have to be a hardware change - so no.

anyone comment? think it's worth getting the ethernet enabled cables for this tv?

nothing uses ethernet anyways... but for price(@monoprice) just get the most expensive one and you are good to go. No one is allowed to say 1.4, 1.3 etc anymore.. so now it's all high speed this, ethernet that.

I DID IT!

After much info search, I have bought a PN63C8000 w/ 3D bundle. Should be here in 10-14 days.

Now I need your help. Do I need to run break in slides? If so how do I do so?

Dont know if you've gotten a new set yet, but I just recieved a new replacement set today pn63c8000 because I had the banding issues as well.

Does your replacement set have any banding? My replacement set still has banding and I was told that it is normal so I'm keeping it. I only see it when I'm running the break-in DVD and rarely ever see it when I'm watching TV. It's also too much hassle to exchange such a big set. Last time, CEVA sent only 1 delivery guy so I had to help him carry the old TV down and bring the new TV up 3 flights of narrow stairs. It was not fun.

1) What is the proper way to lift this TV? Can I support both ends of the frame (bottom corners) or do I have to life at the base? Its kind of hard to get a good grip on the base where I have it placed. And the base is so heavy I worry if I lift it by any other part it could be damaging.

2) The TV leans ever so slightly forward. I have it sitting on a stand and the Best Buy guys installed the base. It isn't noticible unless you look from the side very carefully. Is this normal or is it possible the Best Buy guys screwed up the base installation? Given the small bezel and huge screen, I would imagine this has to be normal to some degree but I want to be sure. The in-store model seemed to not have the issue. I did confirm that the 4 screws at the bezel were in place... though there is more going on under that bracket.

Thanks for any feedback!

There shouldnt be any wobble to the tv and mine is plumb. If its angled it cant be more than a few degrees at most. The stand came attached to both of my tv's. Both pn63c8000

As far as picking up the tv the glass frame is strong enough to pick it up by the corners.

No banding or buzzing on the new set. If there is any banding its so slight that I cant see it during golf viewing. When the ball is in flight against the sky is where I first noticed it on the first set. It was pretty bad. It also got worse after samsung had tv shop pick up the tv for replacement pannel. The pannel samsung sent the shop was bad so I guess just the process of moving my pannel so much made it worse. I noticed more lines after I got the tv back from the shop than before it went.

I played golf from the DVR when the new set arrived today and listened for a buzz and neither were present so I accepted the set.

Just purchased a PN63C8000 from amazon today. It comes with the 3D starter kit and blu-ray player bundle. I was also able to get Amazon to match the price that was posted on slickdeals at US-Appliance...

Hopefully it is here next week...

Anyone had problems with a white screen having pinkish spots in it? Look at the picture attached. The white screen is much pinker on the right side. Disregard the 2 horizontal lines in the middle those are because of the camera not the set. Although the banding does show up somewhat in the picture. Anyone had this color issue? I know some older models had this. I haven't gotten a replacement yet. The samsung engineer was suppose to call today to set up an appointment but they never called. Go figure. I'll have to bug them to get anywhere. This set seems to have banding and the pinkish hue. I feel like I'm picking at it but I kinda feel like I paid enough to not have these issues too.

You need a new set! Samsung wasnt the fastest but part of the problem was the repair shop they went thru to attempt to fix mine before finally replacing it.

Well, if it matters to you, 3D absolutely sucks on the LED models. Obvious, annoying cross-talk. Sony does a better job, but still nowhere as good as on the plasma 8000.

I have the PN50C8000, but viewed the LED models in stores. The sales rep at Best Buy actually talked me DOWN in price to the plasma. (Didn't buy it from Best Buy - was $1900 + California sales tax vs. $1400/no tax online...)

I have it on an articulating arm that will swing a full 180 degrees (actually, even more, given where I have it mounted at an outside corner) so that I can view it from my living room, dining room, or kitchen. I've caught myself just leaving it in the "stowed" flat position against the wall when watching from the kitchen, even though it should be angled 30 degrees. Heck you can view it at close to 180 just fine. But that's just a characteristic of all plasmas. This is important to me, because I have the TV mounted fairly high, (with the bottom about 4 inches about seated eye level) due to seated, reclining, and standing viewing positions. I had to compromise between the 3. I have it tilted down 15 degrees (the max of the mount) for reclined viewing.

Does anyone have the PN8000 in a bright room and can comment on how well its picture quality holds up?

I have mine in just about the brightest room you can imagine - back-lit by a west-facing view of San Diego Bay with no window treatment. I've never had to put it in "torch mode" (dynamic). The only time I can't view it is late afternoon, and that's only because you can't stand to look in that direction at all into the sun...
