can anyone please tell me what the cause of this issue is. when i used to watch a movie, show, etc. when it went to an all black scene(tv all black in between scenes) my tv would get so dark it would look like it was off. i loved this feature but i dont notice this anymore. you could actually see it get darker for that split second and i loved it. but no more. is it because i have my source running through a pioneer reciever.

Good luck. I am wishing the best for you and anyone who is to receive delivery of this TV. The heartbreak is too much when you look at a TV this size and its cracked.

I might even try to watch the damaged 2nd replacement over the weekend. Think that would pose a problem if returning? Would they know if it had been turned on?

I'm not sure why. So you are pressing the Tools button to access the Sound option? Normally if there is no DD or DTS track then the only option shown at all is PCM (as opposed to the DD or DTS option being grayed out). You are sure your source is DD or DTS? Not sure if this will matter but try setting your speaker type to External only and see if that makes a difference. Just guessing though.

I am using the wired connection to a bridge. There is no way for the TV to know that there's anything wireless with that hookup.

The TV has all the right settings and is on the network. Everything else behind the bridge works fine too.

The TV gets to the last step of the network test and says "Connecting to external device failed." Is that the same problem you had?

What the heck is the TV trying to connect to? Ever since I got the TV on the network my computer sees a bunch of Samsung stuff on the network and keeps trying to install drivers for it. The driver installation fails.

Is the TV trying to connect with my computer?

Thanks...

if the damage is that obvious, I doubt it would matter...

well, Amazon's second try at it was cracked as well... not as bad as the first, but still cracked. Amazon basically has stopped selling their inventory until they figure out if their whole shipment is damaged. At least they will give me my money + $100 credit for the trouble, so not all is lost.

Sucks, but at least they are working with you. I got mine from Amazon last week and haven't watched it a ton, but so far it looks good. I'm going to look at the screen tonight with it off with a flashlight to see if any hairline cracks show up underneath.

I read over on CNET a thread where people's TV's were cracking many weeks/months down the road. I sure hope that doesn't happen, that would suck since I don't have an extended warranty yet.

Anyone experience cracking of their screen weeks/months after???

wow... sorry to hear that. strange they told me they had another one and would ship. while i have not seen the shipped notice yet it does have an estimated delivery date of next week. you orderd the 58" or 63"?

Also, did you get it with the 3d bundle and do you have to return that stuff?

Mine was the 63" and apparently the Amazon page for the 63C8000 basically says they have stopped selling their inventory until they figure out what the issue is.

I don't have to return the 3d bundle items as they will refund me the cost of the TV. The way Amazon handles bundles is strange... they take some money out of each of the other two items (blu-ray player/3d kit) and lump them in with the price of the TV. From what I was told, I will receive the refund in that amount plus $100. I can keep the bundle items if I want or have until Jan 31 to return them so no big deal. Once the refund processes, I'll see if I can get the TV from another source even if it is a little more expensive... the $100 credit will help close the gap.

it doesnt matter if im watching bluray or gaming.....its always greyed out.

Oh that's nice. I was trying to get the 58" so maybe thats why they are still shipping it. I wonder if Amazon is having the same shipment problem with 58s. oh well, I'll keep being the guinea pig. Just think its like getting a big screen delivered every week. Oh the rush!

You could always downgrade to the c7000 since they are still shipping that. You can then just do the service menu trick to get the c8000 menus. you only really lose the real black filter.

I tried something similar. I used a wired connection from the TV to a wireless dongle (has an Ethernet port for input, than transmits wirelessly to the router). It got as far as the Ping Gateway test but always failed at that point. The frustrating thing was that if I plugged my laptop in to the wireless dongle it would work, but the TV would not (even though it could see the other computers on my network).

Eventually I gave up and ran a wire to the TV. It was a real pain but with hindsight I am glad because I prefer the stability of the wired connection for such an application.

I actually would make good use of the AR filter on the 8000... I have three windows in the room opposite the TV. I can close the blinds on them to control the glare, but no matter what you do, some light gets in. At this point, I am just going to wait for my refund and then maybe consider waiting until after the Christmas rush is over to get something. At this point I was set on the 8000 mainly because of the good reviews on it and the fact that Panasonic can't seem to get their act together when it comes to controlling black level issues. Plus the price was the best it had ever been.

I'll limp along with our 46" panasonic PZ80 for now

I had a similar experience last year with an external viewer and a usb wireless dongle.
This time around I purchased the Samsung dongle because I knew I wouldn't have a ton of time to troubleshoot/mess around with the connection.

It came up first shot, and has been online ever since, as far as I can tell.

I think it was $60 on Amazon.

Did you know what the dongle's IP address was and manually enter it into the gateway field? On my TV I can't list the router's IP address as the gateway, as you would normally do for a device behind the router. That fails the TV's gateway test but if I set the gateway IP to the bridge then the TV passes the gateway test.

It's just that darn Internet Service Test. Doesn't ANYONE know what the heck "Connecting to external device failed" means??? What on earth is my TV trying to connect to???

I think Samsung needs work with their packaging.

The 63" ordered to upgrade from my 58" arrived today... cracked... just like my first 58". The box looked fine, just like before, but suffered enough force to crack the interior glass. Samsung needs to provide more padding on these heavy, expensive panels!

Amazon has now marked the C8000 'under review' and will not be selling them until their shipping investigation is finished. Lady on the phone said they have had a very high number of damaged Samsungs. This means I had to return my TV for a refund; it doesn't sound like another shipment will be for a while.

I think their entire shipment was shipped horizontally by accident or something... I think amongst just three people here, we have had at least 6 or 7 cracked screens within the last few weeks.

I'm just waiting on my refund to process now...

i'll be receiving my second shipment from US-appliance this morning. The first one, the shipping company called me and said the box was so banged up that I would probably refuse shipment if I saw it. US appliance used a different freight company and I should be getting the replacement today. I hope I dont have any cracked screen issues. We'll see in a few hours!

By the way, US-appliance's customer service was wonderful. they shipped out a second tv quickly after the shipping company reported damage (Last Friday). SO it took only a week for the replacement to come.

It bet it is this... SOLVED! Samsung PNxxC8000: Dark Movie/TV Scenes Turn Panel Off

The panel really is turning off on all black scenes.

I actually didn't like it because to me it is obvious when the panel shuts off... You should be able to change the settings to make it happen though. (Any setting other than Movie mode in the defaults should do it. The source input has to be all black, even a handful of pixels will keep the screen from turning off.)

Got my second tv from us-appliance and there were no cracks in the screen..thank god. Just let it acclimate to room temp and turned it on with default settings...i have slight buzzing but it doesnt seem too bad..I guess I will find out more when I set this up in its permanent place

thank you. i do like this. also note that this does it before every netflix viewing. before movie starts and call of duty on 360 inbetween game loading. i have low black filter on, dark black tone, brightness set at 75 and dynamic contrast at low.

Dang, sorry to hear that; FWIW--the first try was shipped via Pilot, and the screen was cracked on delivery; second try was via HomeDirect and was delivered intact.

Received my 50" 8000 yesterday afternoon, purchased from Crutchfield, shipped through CEVA Logistics, no damage and the delivery guy unboxed and plugged it in to check the screen.

1. No buzzing, no dead pixels I can find.

2. Went through the entire CNET setup, but really not impressed with the results. LOTR looks to have a greenish tint, and is generally too dark (Movie mode). Think I'll reset to default and mull this over. Although, there is more depth, the as delivered settings made it look flat and only marginally better than the Sammy HLN DLP it replaces.

3. Is there a means for me to reset to the beginning setup menu? I never saw the opportunity to select Home use, or should that matter.

4. Haven't tried the 3D yet, and I have chosen not to use a burn-in process. I will just be careful not to do anything risky.

I didn't try any manual settings. I called Cisco tech support because my router is by them. I figured maybe it was router related since I could see my internal network and PCs but not reach the net. I explained to Cisco that my TV could not connect to the net and they said to me "Is this a Samsung by any chance?". So they've heard it all before. Unfortunately they didn't have any solution.

I would have just done Samsung's dongle and been done with it, but I wanted to use a switch at this location so I could get the Blu-ray player online too. Anyway after a few days of fussing with it I went to a wired solution.

I have been reading this forum all year and I am ready to buy a 63" c8000 but because I've waited so long I'm thinking maybe I should wait for the 2011 models. My wife has finally given her go ahead and here we are at the end of the year. Any thoughts?

Got my 63" this week from Best Buy. I have until the end of January 2011 to return it if something happens to change my mind.

I got mine on Monday. I'm sad it doesn't blow me away but IMO it doesn't look any better than my 4 year old Sammy. However, it is bigger and does have 3D.

But is it worth the money right now? That's my debate with myself.
