3) 3d glasses (SSG-2100AB starter kit) consistently lose sync multiple times throughout any film/source

I began some troubleshooting and evetually enlisted support and here are the results.

1) Apparently this is a known issue with this model and Samsung has their techs lower the voltage on the set which completely eliminates the "sparkles" and significantly "reduces" IR issues

2) They did some testing and determined the X and Y boards (they called them) are bad on my set and in need of replacing. They claim they are responsible for wiping away images and are necessary to kill IR issues. (i am still waiting on them to come and replace this)

3) I've attempted many of the suggested fixes online and even replaced the started kit with another one. The opaque tape method hasn't helped and I am wondering if it isn't the fault of the previously mentioned X and Y boards.

Ok. The contractor (samsung repair person) came today with replacement boards. Only, those idiots at samsung marked me down as having a PN58C8000 so he came with the wrong parts as I have a PN50C8000. Either way we went back to BB and they agreed to ship/deliver me a new set on the 1st of January. Here's hoping the replacement set is better!

I picked up my 63C8000 at the retail store in my S10 Blazer. They laid it down in the back of my truck (yes, it JUST barely fit between the wheel wells) and I drove it home, avoiding any potholes along the way.

Distance was about 12 miles of city then rural roads...no issues at all.

The set was packed fairly well, but I can easily believe that if a couple of gorillas handle the box the way they'd handle a normal piece of freight, I'm sure the screen would get damaged. I think if someone had the box standing upright, and it got knocked over, it might get cracked.

All that being said, if I had the option of going to the store to examine it first, I would. I'd take it myself, rather than trust it to Biff and Skippy.

Does anybody know if the 8000 supports RGB Full (0-256)?

I'm going to set the PS3 to YCbCr for movies, but I'd like to know whether to set RGB to Full or Limited for video games.

My second replacement was scheduled to come yesterday. I was called the day before by the delivery company stating that they had it at their warehouse and wanted to delivery the next day. I agreed, but also asked if they were finally going to take back the first defective set that they refused to take last time, then set up an appointment to take and never showed up. They apologized for that mixup and said they would be there to take care of both the next day. Well, I leave work early to meet them home, only to get a call from the lady stating that they don't have it and can't find it ANYWHERE. As of right now, my tv is officially lost in transit (which is code for stolen).

Amazon was nice enough to send me an email saying that even though my tv was lost in transit, they will send out another one by January 3rd and won't even charge me for the replacement, lol. Jeez, they really went the extra mile by not charging me for the tv that I never received. Now I'm screwed till after New Years...thanks Pilot!

I don't know how long you'll be able to hold out on doing a firmware update. I'd anticipate that as more updates coming along there will be some other fix or feature you'll need and then will be faced with the dilemma of risking having the blink come back.

If you do feel that strongly that if it blinks again you will take it back, then you may want to consider trying to get it to blink to see if it really is fixed by the board - because I'm not sure how long you'll be able to go without updating the firmware and and that point you'd likely be well past your return period.

Also if you intend never to update the firmware you should alert others in the house if any watch the set to never say Yes to a firmware update question. I think it auto detects and prompts for download/install. "Honey I updated the firmware for you..." is not what you'd want to hear (or maybe they wouldn't even think enough about it to let you know). I'm not sure there's a way to disable the auto update check.

Let us know what you plan to do and how things go.

Yeah I was thinking the same basic things as you mention above. The store I bought it from called me today to let me know the replacement TV I asked for has arrived. I gave the salesman I've been working with a brief overview of what's been happening and what I've done. He said he'd hold the TV for me until Monday afternoon.

I have not had a single blink since the new board and old firmware was put in. We watched it for several hours last night and I've had my butt firmly on the sofa watching TV all day today. Originally, the TV started blinking from day one and was blinking 3 to 4 times a night.

If we have no blinks by Saturday, I'm going to put on 1032 and see what happens. If it blinks by Monday afternoon, then I'll go get the replacement TV. If not, I'll have them take my name off of it.

I have until 1/9/11 to exchange it if it starts to blink again after Monday. I wish I had more time to mess with this, but the clock is ticking.

got the Xpand 103 Universal 3D glasses today. So far they haven't lost sync. They are slightly less dim than the Samsung glasses. The big negative is that they really hurt my nose bridge. It was so uncomfortable wearing them. I'm planning on returning them and ordering another pair of the Rechargeable Samsung glasses.

I picked up my c8000, and no cracks.

Quick question. I am just going to break it in on regular content. Should I zoom it so there is no black bars on the top/bottom? For some reason "fit to screen" is greyed out.

Any other tips?

I gotta say the picture is not really too impressive. Seems to lack sharpness and "pop".

Also it wont connect to pandora or netflix. just stays on the connecting icon, despite having internet connection.

Try Cnet's settings:

I find that this TV excels the pop on my last LED-LCD (LG 55LX9500)...and that set had a beautiful picture

hey i did a search in this forum for some help but couldnt seem to find what i was looking for. i dont know if this is the right section but here goes

i recently picked up a pn58c8000 and my current center channel is too tall sitting in front of my tv and i am wondering if there is someone who makes a feet or some kind of riser to put under my tv so it will clear my center channel. if any of you have some advice that would be great. the extra feet that come with the set are just a bit too short

I was thinking about just getting a block of wood (and painting it black) so that it would raise the TV a few inches but instead I just ended up placing the center speaker behind the TV.

GrizzlyD, sorry to hear of the string of bad luck. Do let us know the outcome after they replaced the X and Y boards. I find that IR is somewhat an issue for me as well... perhaps not as bad as what you have described... but I'd be interested in know how much improvement in IR reduction would be after replacing the boards. Keep us posted please. Happy holidays!

That could work, I'm sure you can find a good solution at IKEA if you're going for the modern/contemporary furniture look. If you want a really clean look, perhaps a new entertainment console might be consideration?

Just wanted to make sure you were aware that the Xpands come with 3 separate nose pieces. Maybe one of those will fit better.

none of them worked. also since the glasses are a little brighter, you can see more dithering noise

I tired Cnet's settings for the 8000 and it was dull and muted. I went back to Home theatre magazine's recommendations.

So can anyone give any suggestions why "screen fit" is grayed out?

I am going to need to get a wireless bridge because the Samsung dongle is worthless.

Still can't connect to pandora, or netflix

What type of router do you have? A lot of the complaints I see about the dongle [no matter what brand] turn
out to be caused by older routers or wireless networks not up to streaming HD.

Samsung recommends a dual band router. Both 2.4 and 5GHz. The back bedroom at my house has a G25 Panny
and getting a new Netgear dual band router solved all my problems. It's made for streaming HD. Gets full bars
all the way to the other end of the house.

Are those the only apps you can't connect to?
I upgraded my wireless about a year ago. Plugged in the Sammy dongle and the set was online in under 60secs.

Yamifanatic - I had the same issue and put the center channel behind the screen. At first I could not imagine it would be acceptable, but it is. Sound is fine and I actually don't notice the speaker back there now.

I spent waaaaay too long looking at options for this. I ended up buying a CRT TV mount from VMP (Model 003B), mounted it above/behind my TV, and then put the center up there. (It kinda looks like the speaker is floating up there, but it looks good. I also have my wireless router there too since it is a high point and hidden.)

Below is the results of my research... (With embedded links to most of the products. The links all worked Sept 2010.)

The easiest thing would be to buy a stand/cabinet that had a space for the center. But unfortunately we already had a TV stand/cabinet that we bought from Sam's Club that didn't have a location for the center. Thus the list below...

-----------------------

Here are a couple of the better options that I saw out there...

I think it might look odd to have a speaker floating above the TV... The face of the speakers should be in the same plane as the face of the TV.

I do like the TV height as it is now... Option 1 would put the TV 6" higher than it is now... Option 2/3 would put the TV 10" higher up than it is now. Option 4 would leave the TV at the current height since the speaker would be above the TV.

Speaker Below TV Options

1) Buy a mount for the TV and put it just high enough above the entertainment center so that the Speaker will fit. The wall mount will have to put the TV 12 to 16" from the wall so it will look exactly as it does today.
Cost ~ $75 to $100
Kinda like THIS or THIS
Or maybe THIS (CHEETAH MOUNTS / VideoSecu Articulating mounts / Might need 16" stud centers.)

2) Build a stand and stain it to match the TV cabinet.
Cost ~$50 and DIY time
Kinda like THIS
More pix HERE

3) Buy a stand that matches the TV cabinet. (This example comes in 10+ colors. )
Cost ~ $100
Picture HERE
Colors HERE

Speaker Above TV options

4) Buy a CRT TV mount or Shelf and put the speaker *just* above the TV. Could put other stuff up there also...
Cost ~ $50 to $100
Example HERE
Another above TV shelf picture HERE

HERE is what I ended up getting. I got the double arm one so I didn't have to center the TV on a stud or place the TV at a certain distance from the wall. (This mount allows quite a range of distance from the wall and off angle while still allowing stud mounting.) Note that you can bend back / cut off the bottom front edge so it sits right above the TV. My center speaker screen hides the top edge since I put the lip between the speaker and screen.

I tried that and it didn't work. Wound up having to get a wire over there to solve the connection issue. Many others complaining of same thing. Search my posts on AVS for more details.

(I ALSO POSTED THIS ON THE SETTINGS THREAD, BUT I THOUGHT I'D CHECK WITH MY FELLOW 8000 OWNERS HERE AS WELL)

Just started watching a 3d Blu-Ray and was wondering if anybody has posted some specific calibration settings for 3D viewing. My apologies if I should have seen it but a link would be most appreciated.

The one thing I find very frustrating about this TV is the fact that certain settings can only be saved by input, rather than by mode. In other words, for instance, once you set the custom color space it's going to stay that way if you switch from CAL-NIGHT to any other mode.

I actually got it working fine. My brother "hacked" my N-router, and it is flying now. Full bars, with the dongle. I was watching netflix a few min ago, and it was streaming flawlessly.

I tried the home theater magazine settings, but they still seem a bit dull/off. L It looks like it would need to be somewhere between those settings, and the "relax" setting, which seems to have a bit too much saturation. I might try the cnet settings.

I am mostly just leaving it on standard, with the contrast and brightness turned down to 40, just to get some hours on it.

Oh and I switched to direct TV today, and noticed a positive improvement in picture quality over cable IMO.

Now all i need is a new A/v receiver.

Question re: HuluPlus. Just watched The Office demo on my C7000 converted to a 8000. The motion judder was crap! I have MJC turned off in the menu, and noticed you can't access the menu while using HuluPlus--can you?
We were thinking about subscribing to Hulu+ but if the judder is there forget it. My F/W is 1032. Anyone else notice this?

I ended up putting my soundbar speaker behind the TV because I didn't want it to block the aesthetics of its metal stand. The stand matches my TV cabinet (from BoConcept)
