Anyway I know if you do not get gamma righ and have your set to somewhere around 6500 white balance it is going to be real hard to get a decent black level. I love this B860 if it just hadn't had a bad panel with the banding on the right of my scree problem others have had. I am waiting for my PN58C8000 to arive in a bit today.

Jeff

Basically in order to have a decent calibration I have to turn the brightness up to 57. I really havent had chance to play with ALL the combinations on the set. I guess its nice to have TONS of settings on this Samsung, but sometimes I think its too much.

Hey terminaldawn,

Yes, I have seen the blur/jerkiness on long panning scenes, but really only on HD Programming.

I just bought Alice in Wonderland blu-ray (Released today or yesterday) and will play it tonight. Can't wait to see how it looks on the PN58C8000!

I noticed this too when watching Planet Earth on Bluray. That being said I had MJC on when watching it and thought it may be an issue due to that function. I only use it when watching nature programs. I watched a full bluray movie last night with cinema smooth on and didn't see this issue at all. Also with Planet Earth it did only happen in the long panning scenes. Did you have MJC on when you were watching it?

na, just the design change probably did something. The "buzz" may seem to be wide spead but I think the issues is very rare compared to non-buzzing sets. We over here get very few complaints, less than 1 %.

Hey all,

Can someone please tell me the difference between the 63c8000 and the 63c590?

In Canada the 63c590 is $2,999.99 and the 63c8000 is $3,599.99. Is the c8000 worth te extra 600$ or would you spend it on speakers or a receiver?

Thanks!

Just because people don't complain, it does not mean they don't have the issue. If you really want to know, you should ask your customers after they've had the TV installed and in use for a few days without them having to volunteer it.

After all, buzz is mentioned in the Samsung manual and website as "normal operation." If its not widespread, I doubt Samsung would be talking about it. I suspect many people are like me. They don't want to go through the hassle of replacing a large screen TV only to get a TV that's worse than the one already in their possession.

But then that's just my guess based on the fact I'm in that boat now...

The 8000 is much thinner (lighter as well), has 3d, apps, better anti glare coating.
Paradoxically, the 550/590 has been measuring much better black levels.

Dunno which way to go myself.

^^^ It is a tough call, really comes down to 3D or no 3D. Keep in mind if you deside on 3D there is even more money to sink in with glasses and a blu ray.

Samsung might have mentioned this also because it is true that every plasma TV made to date buzzes. Put your ear behind any set and you can hear it. Now I understand that if you are hearing a buzz from 10FT there is an issue of some kind.

i think on bat man i'm judging the tv on the wrong part

the part where they are transporting Harvey and go to the underground street, the blacks there is where i complain the most for this movie, but i think that is due to the yellow lighting now ..

the night skyline shots are great and everything looks amazing. I might be over critical of the tv ... yes the blacks can be darker but they are black

So i bought the 3d glasses yesterday and just quickly tried, will check more tomorrow

batman it didn't much for - few parts added a little else not much
HD tv community - looked bad
Uncharted 2 (ps3 game ) only tried for five minutes but that looked good
post #430 of 5831
Thanks for the update. I agree it's easy to be over critical especially if you are on these forums alot. Paranoia sets in and you start looking for issues rather than "just noticing them".
i tried to take pictures but couldn't get any good ones , not sure what settings to use for night shots
post #432 of 5831
would it make sense to have a wiki page or central topic for condensing all of this information? there are currently 3-4 threads which feature discussions relating to this tv that everyone seems to be interested in.

things i would think should be included/added:
- spec comparisons between 6500/7000/8000
- basic summary of the major configuration settings
- break-in procedures (incl. slides,recommended mode,duration)
- firmware version and changes
- issues + workarounds or repro steps/examples
- calibration settings for the various modes (day-cal,night-cal,standard,movie,game)
- links to threads
- recommended configurations/wiring?

Well after four solid weeks of waiting for my 63C8000 to arrive, (on back order since early May) it finally did arrive today at 4:35pm from Crutchfield in Virginia. (I'm next door in Maryland) The price was just right, $3419.00 with free 3 day delivery by CEVA Logistics.

Well, it arrived alright, in a box that looked as if it was dropped from a 6 foot height. The entire right side was crushed like an accordion. So I sadly refused delivery and have asked Crutchfield to refund my order.

I've never had an issue with them before. The problem lays with CEVA. Boy do they suck! First they never called to set up a delivery time, second, when I finally called CEVA to see what was up, they claimed they would not be able to honor the 3 day delivery time set by Crutchfield because, (and third) they had shipped my TV to the wrong HUB depot in Philly, and then fourth, when it did arrive (on the 4th day) it was trashed!

Therefore, be careful if you decide to buy from Crutchfield since they say that's the ONLY shipping company their bosses will allow them to use. Too bad, because CEVA lost them the sale.

I have buzz coming from the front of the TV. It didn't bug me at first, but now it seems to be getting worse, or I just notice it more. You can only hear it if you sit directly across, at eye level. I'm going to move the TV up higher and see if that gets rid of the buzz, or hides it. If it works I'll get a higher TV stand.(my stand is only 13" off the ground) I would wall mount, but the walls are like 200yrs old and I don't trust them. I'll keep you guys posted....wish me luck. I really don't want to return this TV, the picture is great.

Our PN58C8000 also has a directional buzz, although we really hardly hear it now. I also found this strange correlation between the intensity of the buzz and the amount of time I spend reading posts about buzz here. The more buzz posts, the louder the buzz. The fewer buzz posts on a given day, the lesser intensity of buzz on our set!

Leaving contrast below 50 results in a pretty dim picture... how literally are folks taking the advice to leave contrast that low for the first 100 hours?
My kids like the look of frame interpolation for their animated movies. Does setting the motion judder canceller to "smooth" on the Samsung 8k plasmas make animated movies look as smooth as animated movies on the Samsung LEDs? Or does the LEDs still have stronger frame interpolation technology? I don't have any 8k plasmas in my area to view. I saw the LEDs and my kids liked how smooth the animated clips looked on it. Thanks.

You should be fine, it's more about the content. Take it easy on video games and solid station logos, also stretch 4:3 content.

I dont know if i´m doing something wrong, ive played around with diffrent settings but since i´m still breaking it in i dont want to mix to much.

During daytime the blacks are really black, almost to much since in darker movies sometimes it´s hard to make anything out.
During night time with no lights on the blacks are gray, looks really washed out.
No setting fix these problems not the ones ive tried atleast.

Do your blacks come even close to the bezel during night time?

Dont know if ive gotten a faulty set or not, atleast no buzzing of any sort
post #444 of 5831
Just tried 2D»3D (with Wipeout!).... SUPER! (And no noticeable buzz.)

If the buzz is indeed a rare issue, how do you explain me getting TWO buzzing pn63c8000 in a row???

Yes, that's right, my replacement set also buzzes. And to remind everyone I don't have my TV mounted, and it's over 2ft away from the wall. I am not being picky as I hear the buzz over other ambient noises in my house, such as Xbox360, dialog in a movie etc...

Here is the Real kicker. When I do p90x I am over 20ft away from the TV. I will be sitting down on a folding chair doing shoulder or back exercises WITH A COUCH in-between me and the television and I STILL hear the buzz!!! I am not trying to hear a buzz at this point because I am intensely working out. If I stand up in the same place I don't hear the buzz, I sit down and I hear it. It truly is a laser beam buzz.

I will be sitting down in my reclining sofa 9ft away and hear the buzz, if I recline down as far back as possible no buzz. So I see why some people say there is no buzz. You have to be in the RIGHT spot. Unfortunately for me I like to sit dead center. Sorry Samsung for trying to sit in the middle of the F'ing screen.

I now need to decide to take a leap of faith and inconvenience myself to take a 3rd day off of work and try to get a rare non buzzing Samsung. OR just go with another TV Right now I am leaning toward getting another TV. Any recommendation on LCDs?

I got just one reply to this... does anyone else have a strong feeling about it?
Okay no one wishes to answer me... that's okay..... but I just returned from BB where they price matched Crutchfield.. without any questions. (BB had it priced at MSRP of $3799.00, we paid $400 less.) So I placed my Mexican built Sammy PN63C8000YFXZA in my Van where it now sits in my family room waiting to be installed, fired up and calibrated.

My Serial Number is ZIZY3CKZ400486. This will become important if we wish to track the Buzzers from the non-Buzzers.... don't you think so?

I'll let you all know how it fairs sometime tomorrow. If it is a buzzer, (or bad vid-noise) then maybe we should try to see if it's a bad batch by looking at the S#'s of those that have these issues from those that do not.

Ciao
