I would go with the plasma unless you plan on gaming on it 80% of the time or more. The plasma has much less motion blur, perfect viewing angles, blacks that are black and not blue, perfect screen uniformity, and you can get a bigger size for much less money.

You can still get HD audio using the analogue outs on the blu ray player. The problem is that you will be using the player's DAC's instead of your receiver's DAC's. Which DAC is superior? More than likely your receiver (not sure which one you have). Samsung analogue outs aren't necessarily the greatest.

Just posting some observations... I have a PN58C8000, and so far it has been great. I've only had it for a week and I mostly keep it in Movie mode, but lately I've been experimenting with turning on Cinema Smooth Mode / Motion Judder Canceller. Today I bought the 300 blu-ray disc and popped it into the Samsung 3d blu-ray disc player. It immediately used BD-WISE as the picture mode. The picture seemed really "grainy" so I switched it to Movie mode. When I turned on MJC or Cinema Smooth Mode, the picture seemed very blurry and made my eyes tired when people were moving around. The only way I could get it to look good was to put it in Movie mode and turn off MJC and Cinema Smooth Mode. My viewing distance to the TV is only about 6ft.

Has anyone specifically tried playing 300 in blu-ray disc format on their sets? What settings/modes did you use?

I just want to make sure that I don't have a defective TV.

300 was made to look grainy. Some people like it, i think it looks like crap and is the main reason I never watched the whole thing again since it was in the theater. I don't think there is any setting you will be able to find that's going to get rid of the grain. At least you know it's not your tv.

I've owned an HDTV since the 360 came out in 2005. It was a Samsung 32" LCD. In 2007 when I bought a house, I upgraded to a 52" LCD 71 series, also Samsung, for the basement. It was the first line of TVs to have the 120hz feature. Along the lines, I went and got a 40" LCD A550 series for the living room.

I dont really care much about 3D, but the 52" really isn't big enough for the amount of room I have in the basement. The motion blur (especially when panning in a shooter) drives me crazy. Side scrollers blur as well. I've been looking to upgrade for some time. I was looking into buying the 65" Samsung 8000 series LED edge lit LCD which comes out in July.

The problem is that its still an edge lit LED and not a local dimming LED. Edge Lit LED's have uneven black levels near the corners. I've seen it myself. Samsung always comes out with a full LED near the end of the year.

I just keep playing the waiting game looking for the next best LCD and realizing that the motion blur is still probably going to be an issue due to the design of an LCD. The 120hz (and 240hz) on LCDs don't really help the problems, when in face they make them worse.

Which brings me to Plasma. I've never owned one. I don't know why.

I just can't figure it out. I keep reading review after review of LCD's that pretty much state, its ALMOST as good in many aspects as a Plasma.

I started taking a look at the 63" 8000 series plasma.

Has anyone tried the new 8000 series LEDs from Sammy and the 8000 series Plasma? I went to Magnolia in my local best buy and the LCD looks better but i know the floor in best buy is the worst place you can ever compare TV's.

The samsung is super fast loading. It has a see through drive cover with blue night effect graphics that can be turned off. Very cool! The upconversion was great on Star Wars plus.... I use BD Wise which optimizes the two samsung products. If your going with the samsung TV.. Go with the samsung player! You'll be glad that you did.

Question for you... which TV did you get? PN58C8000? What's your viewing distance from couch to TV? Do you notice any pixelation or blurry-ness when people move their heads quickly or anything like that?

BUT sadly i got a buzzer , it does depend on where you sit .. a little to the left, right, or above you hardly hear it or not at all. THere is a "sweet spot" that it is pretty darn loud though
