Scott,
Are you testing an official beta release of HC for the Revue or doing "something different?"
In your opinion, for the rest of us Revue owners, will HC prove to be well worth the long wait for this overdue update?

I just bought the revue. Every time I try to watch a m4v file the revue goes black with green bars and has to be rebooted. Am I alone or maybe a bad one?

Probably normal. Search the Revue community forum on the logitech site. I believe the Revue does not currently play m4v files, but may do so after the Google Honeycomb OS update is released, presumably very soon.

We'd like to clarify that these products do not include the next version of Google TV software. The boxes were prematurely updated with the stickers in anticipation of the next release of the Google TV software, which, once available, will be a free and automatic update pushed to all Logitech Revue boxes that are installed and connected to the Internet.

Honestly, **** Logitech. They've been promising 3.1 on the Revue for MONTHS. I have been waiting so long for the update that I just bought another box because the Revue sucks in it's current state.

The fact that they now have the balls to put the sticker on the box is nothing short of FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!
I don't see how this is Logitech's fault???? 2.0 is launching next week, and the stores were supposed to hold these boxes until it was available. Then, when the customer brought it home it would update the v.2.0. It is only a few days lapse between when these boxes erroneously got onto shelves and when it will be "true". If it was being updated in December, or late November, then I would agree that they are being misleading.

The source says:

This software update will be coming to Sony devices starting early next week and Logitech devices soon thereafter.

Logitech is again left behind, not very promising.
is it goggles responsibility or Logitech's to fix the audio pass through problem? this is whats keeping me from buying one.
Logitech has the source code, they can fix it.

Good news, everyone! GoogleTV v2 with Android 3.1 will be coming to your devices soon! Sony Blu-Ray Players and televisions will get their updates next week (staggered over several days, so be sure to leave your devices on for a few days!), and Logitech Revue owners will get their updates soon after (we'll let you know the official date once it's a bit closer, but trust me... it's coming).

New features and improvements include the Android Market, a cleaner UI, better ways to find stuff to watch, and an amazing YouTube player. And something I'm sure this audience will appreciate... support for more media formats! I'm sure it's still not perfect, and Sony and Logitech each made their own decisions about what to support, but hopefully you'll notice the overall improvement.

Below are links to the "official" announcement blog posts. Thanks for all your great feedback and patience, and we hope you enjoy this software update!

Is there new hardware coming as well, or more like next year? I'm referring to the Fishtank photos posted a while ago w/antenna in jacks, etc. I found a Revue for $75 shipped off eBay to try out for now, but would prefer a unit w/OTA recording and DVR-like capabilities later.

Sage TV on Google TV?

I'm working on my own app to use my unused HDHomerunPrime. Of course I can't really test my app until that update gets here... But I'd rather have an official app since Google decided to buy the only software with extender support and shut it down (Xbox's aren't great extenders).

Also, Sony needs to upgrade their blu ray player to support 3d discs.

Logitech would disagree.

  • Logitech Revue with Google TV with Android 3.1 will include an improved Logitech Media Player experience, which will deliver smooth access to your personal content, including photos, downloaded music files and home videos that are stored on a USB drive or a DLNA-compatible media server on your home network.
  • Turning your PC or Mac into a media server will be made even easier with our free Logitech Media Server software. Just download and install this server software onto your computer, and you will make it simple for Revue to access your stored media over a wireless or wired network.
  • The software will also help organize your media - making it searchable through the Quick Search Box on Google TV. Then, your libraries of music, movies and photos will only be a few keystrokes away.
  • Revue also works with many other popular third-party DLNA media servers to access networked media content.

Source.

Besides, there are sure to soon be 3rd party apps available in the Market to improve local media playback.

Logitech is trying to sell a product.

I have been running the update now for two months. The media player DOES play hd Mkv files which is good but not many Avis mov's that I have tried and it does not play iso's.

While the media player looks Nicer it still operates like the old player.

You offered a sort of authoritative statement without providing any details. Are you running the final version of 3.1 for the Revue or the early leaked beta? Are you running the unreleased Logitech Media Server software?

If you aren't in possession of the final version of 3.1 and the Logitech Media Server software, then you can't say definitively what media formats/containers the Logitech Media Player will support.

My box gets all the beta software automatically

Can't tell you what it's on now no power here and probably won't have power for 3 - 4 more days. My area looks like a bomb hit it trees telephone poles and wires down everywhere.

I just got this email last night:

Hello,

Thank you for having purchased a Google TV product with the initial version of our software.

We're excited to send you this advance notice about a number of software improvements that will soon be coming to your device through an automatic update. The update is rolling out over the next few weeks.

When you see a dialogue box on your TV saying "update available," feel free to click "update now," otherwise you can postpone the update by a few hours by clicking "not now" (handy if you're in the middle of watching a movie). Once the update has downloaded, just follow the on-screen instructions.

The on-screen instructions include a quick guide to what's new, but here's an overview of the exciting new features we're bringing you:

Keep it simple

The interface is now much simpler. The new customizable home screen gets you to your favorite content quickly. And within "all apps" you can see all of your shortcuts, similar to your Android phone or tablet.

Make it easy to find something worth watching

We've improved search across the board for content from live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, and more. But what if you don't know what to search for? There's now an app called "TV & Movies" that let's you easily browse through 80,000 movies and TV episodes across cable or satellite, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and many other sites. If you've opted in to recommendations, we can better predict what you want to watch next.

Make YouTube better on TV

We're launching a new YouTube experience specifically built for Google TV. It is now fast and easy to get to your favorite HD-quality YouTube entertainment. And we've integrated YouTube more closely with Google TV search, so that you can turn virtually any topic -mountain biking, cooking, etc. - into a channel.

Bring more apps to TV

We are opening up the TV to the creativity of content creators large and small through Android Market. Android developers can now bring existing mobile apps or entirely new ones to TV. Initially, the number of apps won't be large - for example, apps requiring a touch screen, GPS, or telephony won't show up - but 50 developers have seeded the Market with some cool and useful apps for the TV. We're excited to see the number of apps grow.

You can also see our revised Additional Terms of Service and Privacy Note that apply to our updated software here

Happy TV watching!

Unfortunately I spent the night taking the demon spawn out trick or treating so I didn't get much of a chance to play with it... It sure looks pretty, but I'll have to do my investigating tonight.

Has anybody got the update on the revue yet? Hurry!!

Introducing Plex for Google TV

...And the stock DLNA players are made obsolete before most users have received their update. Although in fairness, the Sony DLNA app does decode DTS so that's something.
The stock sony player always played DTS and I believe it is more of the "stock GTV player" then "sony".

So what does this do for me more then my current setup of Twonky for DLNA and the Netflix app?

check out plex at plexapp.com
it has a very nice UI, tons of new updates on the server side, the server works with the Plex iOS apps for playback on those devices.

This changes everything for me. Maybe I'll dump my boxee and get this for local/online playback.

Will this work with SMB streaming from a NAS?
