Official GOOGLE TV Thread - Page 54

Logitech got a lot of us to buy at $99.00, stating they were going upgrade us to 3.1 Honeycomb. Then Logitech CEO recently states Logitech had lost $100,000,000 on Revue. Then now sells unsold Revue placarded with up-grade 3.1 Honeycomb tags. Lawsuit already filed by class action Lawyers. I really enjoy my Revue but upgrade of 3.1 Honeycomb coming when ?. Buying a Revue was easier with 3.1 upgrade coming.! did stating something I thought interesting, got lost in 1st reply. Do a Google search on Smart TV boxes WOW.

I am considering trying this out (could always return) but does anyone know if with the new 3.1 Honeycomb update, we will be able to use the TV Cam with other software (SKYPE) or will it still be proprietary with Logitech VID?

Does anyone know if there is a way to install an APP on the revue?
I was hoping that the TuneIn App would stream many stations, but it's very limited.

Yes, that is old news now and true.

But they had said we would still get the update.

Just got off the phone with tech support...yes, no more revue's & they will still support the product, but when I asked if we would get the honeycomb update, he couldn't answer, just that Logitech will support the revue. He couldn't say if or when we may get the update.....

There are people that have received betas for testing, but they could still pull the plug.

Logitech Revue Android 3.1 upgrade starts rolling out - Engadget

It appears owners of the Logitech Revue will finally be able to get their taste of Honeycomb starting tonight, as a few lucky users have already received an upgrade to Android 3.1 and support techs have informed them a wider rollout is beginning this evening. That puts it about a month behind Sony's Google TV boxes in receiving the upgrade, but will finally bring owners a whole new UI, and access to the Android Market -- and live up to those stickers on the outside of the box. The usual considerations apply about it being a rolling update so while your $99 box may not see the new software right away, it's definitely coming.

Never mind. It appears Engadget took a single post from the Logitech Revue forum that claimed to have gotten the update, and blew it out of proportion by saying there were more. The update does exist, and it is due out this month according to Logitech, just not today, I guess. It certainly hasn't appeared on my Revue.

Nope... it is official!

So how is it ?
How is it? I'm actually quite disappointed.

Two fundamental changes are real dealbreakers. The picture quality of Live TV is visibly degraded. (I actually thought the deinterlacing in the Revue made my signal look better, until today's 3.1 upgrade.)

Furthermore, when you open a search box or the app bar over Live TV, the live image dims so much you can hardly see it. As a result, there's no more doing a search while watching because you can no longer realistically watch that shadowy image.

The new features are not compelling IMO. The apps in the Android Market are limited and, frankly, some of them don't even work correctly. For example, I can't get one of the file manager programs to see a SAMBA share on my PC, even though that's a feature of the app.

DTS audio in MKV files still isn't supported and--though it hardly makes any difference--even the video for those files will no longer stream through the Logitech media player.

At this point, I sincerely wish I could downgrade to the previous software. For all practical purposes (at least for MY practical purposes), Logitech just broke my box.

Still testing it

Im stoked! It's much more customizable with wallpapers, moving wallpapers, customizable Homescreen, Homescreen launcher apps, etc. You can check the "install apps from outside market" box, like on your phone, wich is pretty cool too. I like the printer share app and the Google music app, Chrome to tv, the new media player app(plus it has the logitech media app still). I think I'm going to spend the .99 and try out plex. It can kind of confuse you once you go to the market, you'll see "all apps" and there will be maybe 50 in there. I thought that was all of them but then I did a search and a lot more came up. I think that was all just for that section. I can see this thing exploding with all kinds of cool apps. I'm sure just like the android phone there will probably be many many media player apps released shortly, it seams like that is the main complaint. My only complaint so far is that I was dissapointed to not see them bring over the original apps/widgets from the first OS, like CNET, revision3, amazon, tnt, etc. I'm sure there will be apps released or you could go to the website and bookmark it but they already had googletv 10foot apps designed. It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to incorporate those here. I'm happy, I can't wait to see what this delivers in the coming months.

I just got my update today, I haven't had time to play with it much yet but so far it looks pretty good.

I noticed certain apps do not appear when searching the market.
Does anyone know if we can install apps using an .apk download?
If so, How?

I was hoping to install iHeartRadio App.

Album Art shows with a USB drive now!
If I can get a decent streaming Radio Staion App installed, I will be extremely happy.

I've been trying to download .apks off of file share sites but haven't got it yet, are you saying you can install them right off a usb?

After getting the update, I have to say I'm very impressed. However, I'm still having some trouble with the Logitech Media Player. It is WAY better than the old version, and it plays more of my media than the old version did. Here is what I'm seeing:

old version: might start to play the video, but freezes up a few minutes in, and does not recover.

new version: plays the video perfectly for a few minutes, but then it starts to pause every few seconds after that. It does play the entire video though. When it pauses it shows a blue arrow spinning, like it is buffering.

My videos contain one MPEG-4 (AVC) video stream and one AAC audio stream, and have a .mp4 file extension. These videos are located on my desktop computer downstairs, and are being streamed using DLNA to my Revue upstairs over wireless N. These same videos play perfectly fine using my XBox360, which also streams upstairs over wireless N.

My hope is for the Revue to replace my XBox360 in my bedroom. So, my question is, will Logitech continue to improve their Media Player? I really hope so, because it is almost perfect. I love the new look and feel in this version. If not, I really hope someone will create an Android App that will work. (VLC?)

I've downloaded about a hundred apps from an alternate app market, many are from the official android market and many are not. Aprox 80% seem to install and work!

It's pretty stupid, there's plenty of apps that you can download from this alternate site that arent optimized for this that are much more relevant and acually work but your not allowed to download them. Then the revue offers you some to download that are completly unrelevant for a Google tv and wont work at all in any way, but its ok to download those!

All of the apps that are from the official market that uve downloaded aren't accesible from the Android market on the revue.

Have you found an app that streams local media (video) using DLNA perfectly? I tried the Logitech Media Player and the aVia Media Player, but both of them pause a few minutes into playback.

This thing is still a dud when it comes to video playback. And without access to the full market there just isn't much to do with it. Mine will be going on ebay.

I agree that video playback is important, but isn't it just a matter of time before someone makes an app that does that well? The hardware is plenty powerful enough to playback video effectively.

Has anyone tried the Plex app for it? That should do the trick!
