Yes. I believe they are also cutting back on TVs in general, so it would make sense they get rid of fringe lines first.

Then, I really need to have a Computer plugged in to my TV so that I can surf on the internet, play games, check e-mails, do whatever I need to do. (pretty impossible to do them all on a Boxee or Google TV solution).

I want to get a Boxee or Google TV in order to see some movies, videos...

I wanted to combine everything in a single box, which is pretty much impossible.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the next-gen ARM based Google TV devices will get us close to that ultimate convergence device that you speak of.

The following should work on the upcoming ARM devices for a cheap "Sonos-like" music setup:

Squeeze Player on the Google TV device.

Squeeze Commander or Logitech Squeezebox Controller on your Android phone for control.

Hey JM,

Thanks a bunch.

So, the squeeze player would be the player client installed on the google tv box.

the squeeze commander would control the musics...

Very good! Does it work?

Any one??

Yes.

It works now just as you described on Android tablets and phones; I've used it myself. You can even run the player/remote client on the same device without issue.

However, it doesn't work on current Google TV devices because they lack support for the Native Development Kit (NDK). Squeeze Player requires the NDK for its implementation of the flac decoder, etc. This is also why gaming hasn't taken off on Google TV because most games make use of the NDK.

The positive news is that the next round of Google TV devices will be cheaper and ARM based. This will open up Google TV to the broader Android ecosystem of apps, like Squeeze Player.

That being said,

Would you buy hold on a little to buy a new Google TV or just go for the SONOS??

I'd wait for the new Google TV. The steaming-only boxes (read: not a Blu-ray player or integrated in a TV) are going to hit the $99 or less price point. Sonos is excellent but the Logitech Squeezbox system is comparable while being open-source and able to be brought to platforms like Google TV.

That, and it would seem to provide the convergence you're after with a single integrated device.

Are you saying that the current hardware won't support the NDK ever? Intel hasn't stopped making SoC's for these types of systems. It all seems like total chaos to me.

There's no certainty one way or the other. But Google has been cagey on the topic and I'm not holding my breath for NDK support on x86-based Google TV devices. For two reasons. 1 - it'll be dependant on the current hardware being upgraded to the next major version of the platform; which is quite a ways off. 2 - I'm not aware of any new Google TV devices in the product pipeline using Intel.

That said, there are apps that use native code on Google TV by statically linking to libraries in the x86 version of the NDK. For example, Better Terminal Emulator Pro. But it's unofficial use of the NDK and developers, by in large, aren't going to bother. The creator of the previously mentioned Squeezebox Player for instance gave up trying to get a working build on the current devices using that method.

My advice if you're interested in Google TV? Get one of the upcoming ARM based devices once they've announced official support for the NDK. The utility and developer support of Google TV should see a dramatic up-tick when that happens. This page should be updated accordingly when that day comes: https://developers.google.com/tv/and...droid_features

Hi all,

I'm in the UK and I've ordered myself a Logitech Revue from the US. The moment I plugged it in, it updated to the latest Honeycomb build (Yay!), and although it's not perfect, it's still generally usable. I use it for browsing and netflix at the moment and not much else.

NOW, I just recently bought a Samsung UE46D7000 TV, which has built in Freeview HD and Freesat HD. I don't have any other STBs or anything like that, and because I don't know how to channel the feed from the TV to the Revue then back to the TV, at the moment, I'm only using Netflix (can get old quickly).

I also have an old JVC home theatre system (doesn't have HDMI) which I've connected to the TV using Optical, so all sound goes from the Revue through the TV to the HT. Haven't hooked up the video feed as it requires SCART, and I just haven't gotten round to it.

Can anyone here advise me on whether they've had any success with, or indeed whether it's possible to route the Antenna/Sat feed from the TV to the Revue, then back through the TV, so that I can use the Revue as my sole content STB?

Any other cool ideas on what I can hook up to the setup would be appreciated too

Quick question about the Review.

Is there now, or will there ever be a fix for playing DTS sound MKV files?

Or do I just need to use a certain player?

None of my MKV's with DTS sound give me any sound at all.

I don't know of any TV made that has a TV out for video. What would be the point?

You have to play with one of the settings. Something like enabled DTS downmixing. I had the same problem. I'll give it a look tomorrow.

I checked this morning.

In System Settings=>Picture & Sound. It was "DTS (optical)" or "DTS passthrough (Optical)". Something like that. Has to be set to "On". Which seems weird. Either way it is a bug of some sorts as when it is disabled I still gets sound, just not center channel sound. The optical thing really through me off as I have the box connected only via HDMI to my TV (no receiver).

The two options I have is for Dolby digital or PCM

This is under "Optical audio output"

Don't see the option you have and I tried the two I have and still not dts sound.

I really like this thing, but without dts sound, it's worthless.

Sorry. I thought you had the Sony blu ray player, not the Revue. Yeah Logitech was too cheap to pay a licensing fee for DTS sound. Google has yet to get the bright idea of selling codecs on the market. So no DTS for your Revue.

Hi guys, Im interested in getting googletv. One of the things that bothers me (sony blu ray unit) is no IR support? I don't' want to use the stupid keyboard.. having a keyboard in the living room is so 1980s. Is there any alternatives? Also does it play your mkvs fine with good album art?
Thanks
The Sony control is like 5" long. It's tiny and very usable (aside from not being back-lit). The new Sony models come out have a nicer looking remote as well.

I've been happy with the media player. It has played every mkv I've thrown at it just fine and does display album art.

The new Vizio streamer w/GTV should be out by this summer. It's got a standard style remote with a QWERTY keyboard on the back of it.

Yes, new Google TV boxes are expected from LG and Vizio, maybe others although nothing is absolutely certain at this point.
Despite the fact the new ARM based Google TV boxes may be better and may be open to more and better applications, I ordered a refurbished Sony NSZ-GT1 to go along with my 2 Revues. I like the Revue and it does what I want but with better support by Sony, faster processor, more RAM and better codec support, I think I will like the Sony box even better. If the new boxes are so great that the first generation product becomes worthless and just not worth using in comparison, it will have been a mistake despite the fact the price was really good.

Hi all
I had posted the below on the Sony TV forum but had not seen any response. Can any here answer the below problem I'm having?

Since the TV updated to the newest software it now won't update apps. When I go into Google Play and then My Apps. I have apps that need updating. I tell it to update and I get a message that "com.android.vending" has stopped unexpectedly. It forces me to select the "Force Stop" button. Same thing happens if I try to download an app. Any ideas? I have power failed the TV but no fix. I have the Sony 32" Google TV.

Does this work with Hopper? In the Set Up Screen, it does not show video with mine

There are new GoogleTVs about to hit the market but there is no information or discussion about them. Why is that?

We have a LG 47G2 on pre-order and there is very little information about it. It is supposed to arrive within the next couple weeks.

Anyone used this TV?

I know and I think maybe the new Google TV products will have to be on the market, get favorable reviews, and then we will see some activity. I love the first generation products but obviously I am in the minority. I am interested in reading about the second generation products, particularly the set top boxes.
I really don't think there's much interest but Google sure has put forth a lot of effort to make it a success. I tried the Logitech Review for about a year but it's sitting in a closet now after being replaced with a third Roku box. I was just never thrilled with it, too much content is blocked and the apps are too limited.
