Especially when you have need to use the Chicago element in your show tht is based in AC ;-).....

But you gotta admit it's fun to have the Capone angle in the show.cool.gif

very good episode...not a perfect 10 in my book but very good nonetheless...first off: Yes! we had a Margaret-free episode!!...I think this is the first time in the show's history that she did not appear for an entire episode...love how the little seeds planted in earlier episodes are taking form such as Chalky's daughter's boyfriend- the medical student who was able to save Eddie...loved the Chalky/Gyp standoff...as much as people say Gyp is a one dimensional villian, I love the character...he has great screen presence and charisma...I would like to see him live on into next season but unfortunately it looks like he has pissed off too many people and the season has been building to his ultimate demise...but who kills him?

I don't see Harrow killing Gillian...too neat...I can't see him killing Gillian and running off with Jimmy's son and Julia to live happily ever after...I still think Nucky had Owen killed but we'll see

next week looks insane...the show has always been hesitant to label itself as a 'gangster' show but next week looks like a total mob bloodbath...I think the show is better off embracing its gangster roots and this season the show has totally moved in that direction

I know a couple of other people that think Nucky had Owen killed too but it doesn't make sense to me. Nucky makes people disappear (Jimmy) and why would he ship Owen to his own house in a crate to open in the middle of the night? Just on the off-chance Margaret wakes up and is there to see it in person? Plus he was genuinely shocked at her reaction and asked Eddie if he knew. I don't think he'd ask Eddie that if he himself already knew.

Just my take.

I have been feeling harrow is going to off Gillian, with her meddeling in his personal life, and now with him having the girlfriend, and not wanting darmody's kid grow up in a whore house, plus-he has taken just about enough. Next week is gonna be the tits!! I think Gyp is gonna get it, and others are also. Capone is going after everyone that went after Nucky. What a great show!!!

He didn't kill Owen! He just found out after Margs reaction to the box contents, why else did he ask Eddy?

he didn't kill Owen himself but rather he tipped off Masseria that Owen was coming to kill him...hence Masseria was ready and got the jump on him and killed him...Masseria is the one who shipped Owen back in the box, hence Nucky's surprised look...but again that is just my speculation...last night's episode did nothing to dissuade me as Nucky asked Eddie how long he knew about Margaret and Owen's affair plus if you listen to the dialogue carefully between Lucciano etc the words they use in regards to Owen's killing is still very cryptic...I've said it before- there is a reason why the show cut away as Lucciano leaned in and whispered something in Masseria's ear...they want you to think one way...it's classic misdirection...I think a twist is coming next week...but again, just my speculation

Nucky tipped off Masseria that Nucky was sending someone to kill him and thus start a war that leads to Nucky nearly getting killed? I could suspend doubt about Nucky not knowing maybe at most, but I can't subscribe to your tip-off theory. If anyone tipped Masseria off imo, it was someone in that room when the plan was made (Nucky, Doyle, Sawicki, Eli, and Owen). The show led us to believe it was Luciano and Lansky but they didn't know the specifics, only that Nucky was gathering everyone trying to take the fight to Masseria following the bombing. Owen showed up in the crate alone which leaves Sawicki and Doyle unseen since. One a crooked federal agent and the other a slimy worm. I think they are more likely the source of the tip-off as Masseria told his man specifically that nobody was to enter the bathhouse just as Owen and Sawicki showed up. Misdirection? Maybe...
You have to wonder why only one body was shipped back in that crate though, it was probably the other fellow with the moustache that tipped them off as if he were killed he would have been sent back as well, no?

OT: I'm hoping to see a new trailer for Game of Thrones: Season 3 (with some actual footage) during the Boardwalk Empire finale next week...usually HBO debuts big trailers during season premieres/finales of their popular shows (True Blood, GoT, Boardwalk Empire etc)

I thought the liquor coming into Chicago came from Canada.
Does anyone know if during prohibition the Chicago Outfit received any material amount of merchandise from the east coast? Don't get me wrong, the Capone connection is great for the show. I'd just like to know if Chicago and NY stayed on their side of the fence. Or not.

As of 1921(last season) Torrio was supplied by George Remus.

Since Remus is having ''troubles" with the Feds., Torrio/Capone may be looking for their old source (Nucky).

anyone notice a weird audio issue in last night's episode?...at around the 37 minute mark when Gillian is talking to Richard it seemed like a line was redubbed later on and inserted back into the episode...meaning the line was changed after the episode was filmed and they had her re-do the line alone in a studio...the audio volume and tone suddenly changed for 1 quick sentence...it's after Richard says to her (concerning Tommy) 'he doesn't belong here'...in the middle of Gillian's next monologue she says ...'this is the only home he has, not in some fantasy world of yours...the bolded part was the audio miscue

Yeah, I noticed it...an obvious dub.wink.gif

Chalky White's compound/the colored part of the AC area that Nucky goes to seeking refuge....does anyone know if that was filmed in the same place on Staten Island that they filmed Jimmy Darmody's "house"? I only ask because Darmody's house was filmed in Cedar Grove Beach on Staten Island....which was pretty devastated by Sandy last month. The houses used in Sunday's episode looked very similar...and the ocean was in the background.

Suffice to say they won't be able to film anymore scenes in that area in subsequent seasons if they need to.....is there a website that lists where scenes are filmed by episode? "Tabor Heights" was filmed in historic Richmondtown IIRC which is in an inland area of SI....but Cedar Grove Beach. Ouch.

Ding!

I knew Al would show up, but not that quick.

It's almost like Gillian has a death wish given the way she treats Harrow. It will be interesting to see what Harrow does. I'd hate to see him leave the show.

Also, another episode without Van Alden.

colored part? are we transporting ourselves to the 1920's?

I'm surprised a lot of people are predicting Richard will kill Gillian...I don't see Richard as a guy who would kill a woman in cold blood...she's treated him badly at times but nothing to warrant him killing Tommy's last remaining blood relative...plus like I said earlier Gretchen Mol is one of only 2 remaining female lead characters on the show...so unless they are planning on introducing a whole slew of new female characters in Season 4 I say she will live (plus she's too hot to kill off)

I don't see Richard killing Gillian either. Killing all her customers and shutting the place down, that I could see. eek.gif

I was really pleased that this week's Boardwalk Empire prominently featured Chalky and Richard and seemed to promise more from them. Chalky, played by the wonderful Michael Kenneth Williams, has long been one of my favorite characters. I may be even more impressed with Jack Huston's performances as damaged, dangerous, Richard Harrow. I sometimes hear the guy's voice in my head between episodes. I am looking forward to Richard's housecleaning adventure at Gillian's house of ill repute. Gyp's guys are a nasty bunch and will deserve whatever Richard may be bringing their way. I have a hunch Gillian will survive the affair, at least I hope so. She is a delusional murderess and she has treated Richard badly but I still want her around. She is an endlessly intriguing character and Gretchen Mol, who plays her, is beautiful and appealing.

+1 for Harrow not killing Gillian. She still is, after all, Jimmy's mother and he was loyal to Jimmy to the end for all he did for him, and she's a woman. Harrow was very upset when Jimmy's wife and lover were killed. When he spoke at "Jimmy's" funeral, he said "Jimmy deserved better than this." I don't think he'll kill her, but he may take out many/all of her new partners and leave her to flounder of her own devices. He knows she needs a partner to keep the house running, and without them she will fail.

Yep, like Tennessee Williams' Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, Gillian "has always depended on the kindness of strangers."smile.gif

Although the preview didn't spell it out completely, it does seem Richard will be going after 'em.
The question is will HE take out Gyp too?
I would prefer Nuck doing the deed, as he has suffered most from Rosetti.
OTOH, if Richard whacks him, the mob won't be seeking revenge on Nucky.

My hope is that Richard survives whatever mayhem he has planned for Gyp's men. I really want him to get his dream of a family, etc. whenever the show ends. It just seems fitting. Even though he has killed without remorse, he still is the most "morally" grounded of all the major characters.

Tennessee Williams was one of my favorite authors, arguably the greatest 20th Century playwright. He may have been gay but the guy understood women, especially damaged women, as well or better than any author I have read.

SHOULD Gillian go down, who would get the boy?
IIRC, he has no other relatives.

Does Richard dream of adopting the boy?
Maybe Nucky would help pull some strings?
