Well, that's what we want, right? For it it get better and better.
Michael Kenneth Williams is already proving that his wonderful portrayal of Omar in "The Wire" was no fluke.

i'll probably keep watching it, but it just isn't really grabbing me. i think you could say i don't find it compelling.

I don't think it's fair to compare this to BoB or The Pacific. Those were both mini-series that had to rush violently towards a fixed point in time over a limited number of episodes. Boardwalk is a series that isn't rushing to a definite conclusion.

A fairer comparison would be Deadwood. Like Boardwalk it chronicled the evolution of characters at a certain point in history. Unlike The Sopranos (which was purely fictitious) it has to fall in line with an established series of events so they can't just ramp up the action purely for dramatic effect either.

It's a slow building series so I can see how it wouldn't appeal to a good portion of the audience, but for me part of the appeal lies in the depiction of the time and feel of the show. Having these people wandering inside that time and their reactions to the world is part of the attraction.

definitely better than 2 and 3. episode 1 had me hooked while 2 and 3 left me wanting. 4 got me back to the excitement of the pilot. i'm really into it now.

as a side note, my wife and I were "discussing" some of our thoughts about what some of the scenes meant in this last episode. she wasn't quite sure about my theories but I later watched the inside the episode podcast and i completely nailed it! of course i sent her the link and rubbed it in

I keep expecting to see a shotgun come out from under his coat.

Gretchen always seems to do her best work when she is a brunette (and doing nudity). Can't stand her when she is bleach blonde.

Unless there's some sort of stigma attached to dating/marrying a widow, Margaret (Kelly MacDonald) seems like she would be a hell of an asset to Nucky as he moves forward. His current woman might be fun in the sack but outside the bedroom she's worthless to him.

I agree, just like on The Wire, he's got that weird combination of calm and menace.

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

Margaret really knows how to get a man's attention.

So she does!

As do many others, it seems. It's the top-rated show on pay cable right now. And most seem to like what they are seeing, as the ratings are rising.

This show is one of the best shows out right now. This is seriously competing with Dexter and what sucks is that it's on that the same time. I find myself watching Boardwalk Empire 1st and then catching up on Dexter.

I was waiting for Margaret and Nucky to get together! She's much more suited for him. Also I've noticed that everything Jimmy touches turns to crap.

Can't wait until Sunday.

I'm not sure where Nucky and Margaret are alike. She's Temperance League and he's... well, he's Nucky.

A little corrupting would take care of that! Or...well, we've seen that she is quite capable of out-manipulating Nucky.

She probably joined the Temperance League when she was dealing with her now deceased alcoholic and abusive husband. She doesn't seem "hard core" and what she did do was to get Nucky's attention.

another great episode last night. I won't spoil anything for those waiting to catch up on their DVR, BUT GRETCHEN MOL NUDE!!!

All the characters advanced nicely in this episode. I'm really intrigued by Margaret. I can't believe she will be satisfied with being Nucky's kept woman, even though his intentions might be good. She's going to cook up a plan to get him to marry her. And he won't see it coming.

That's my guess too. Also, this episode has shown me what is missing from my life...concubines!!

Well if you do go that route, I might suggest that you not house them all under the same roof.

The last scene with Nucky and the senator was so perplexing! LOL. Margaret was living in a dream world up until the last few seconds of the episode. I won't mention anymore until later. I know some people have to catch up on their DVR.

If they haven't watched the program yet they shouldn't be reading here. You can talk all you want about the episode.

I'm no prude, but some of the gratuitous sex and nudity is looking a bit self-indulgent and forced to me. That minor quibble aside, I am hooked!! Great episode last night.

Jimmy certainly was emphatic about wanting to establish their business in Greektown The Prohibition Agent....what can I say?

That was creepier to me than Paul Bettany's similar scene in DA VINCI CODE.

I could not stop cringing during that scene with Nelson. It was beyond warped and what was up with the picture?! It seems like he gets some kind of sexual thrill out of it because Margaret was only 16 years old in that picture. The whole hand/stomach torture scene was brutal but I think Nelson just topped himself again. LOL

If my American history is correct, the roaring 20's was a very open-minded time period. It wasn't uncommon for others to be very sexually active. Margaret Sanger was a fierce advocate of promoting sexuality and birth control during that time period. It wasn't as conservative as most people would think. Point being... I think that some sex scenes are purposely done to be a little distasteful. For instance, the mayor who was at the brothel with Nucky had a major ego complex. The scene was completely gluttonous in nature and he reminded me of a pig. It was a depiction of what kind of person he is. Whether it's allocating money or just being around women, he seems to not understand the meaning of enough. Another example would be when Nucky's girl showed Margaret her goodies. It was to remind Margaret that Nucky isn't as good as she believes he is.

Nelson is obsessed and in love with whatever her name is from no country for old men (cant recall her name). Thats why he put the picture of his wife down and put the one of her up because he has adulterous thoughts and was punishing himself.

Thats what I got from it.

I love this show by the way.
