I'm going to disagree there with this episode, because I thought some of the directorial decisions were very cliche and lazy.
Loved the introduction of the sniper character and his scenes with Jimmy for instance, but his comparison to the Phantom of the Opera was clearly obvious from the offset without the need for the pipe organ music and the shot of him strapping his mask on back to camera just to hammer it into the viewer. I thought that was laughably cheap and was actually groaning out loud. It was one step away from having him attach a cape and holding it over his face with his forearm.
I couldn't tell if the cut to Jekyll and Hyde was supposed to be a "clever" allusion to his character or just convenient music source either. If it was supposed to be the former it didn't really work since we already know that the sniper was someone who clearly had no problem killing people from his previous scenes. He isn't really a clearly defined good/bad character any more than the rest of the characters are.
The lesbian love scene ending on the facial gasp was another cliched shot. Everyone knows what lesbians do in bed without the big signpost adding to indicate some oral sex in progress just in case we couldn't figure out where her head was going as it went off camera.
Other scenes like the assassination and house burning were easily predictable due to the framing, so despite some nice dialog and subtle performances the episode was knocked down by choices like that.
