However, even in 1920, when driving north from Atlantic City to New York City -- where the deputy was taking the witness -- the Atlantic Ocean would be on the right of the automobile, not on the left as shown starting at the 45 minute mark.

Not if he didn't head north. His intention never was to go to NYC after all.

Good catch...I noticed it too like a bump in the head...still a great episode. I had a feeling that Moms was setting Lucky up the whole time. The blood on the dress was a great visual image driving home the point of just what Margaret, et al, had bought in to.

It could be as simple as the DP not wanting aim the camera into a direct sun-angle ... that never seems to work very well.

Of course there's the whole east/west coast issue (depending on where they are filming the series.) It could be that they actually were heading north ... just on the wrong coast. ....

Except the agent staged it to look as if he were attacked on route to NYC.

As for being filmed on the West Coast (doubtful), so what? You would film the car heading south to match the storyline. And the coastline sure didn't look like CA.

What I noticed was what looked like afternoon light coming into the dress shop, which of course wouldn't happen since it faces the Atlantic. So it would have to be early morning light, credible I suppose if Mme. "Are You Serious With That French Accent" opened up really early. Lol

But the show is so exceptional who cares.

It was filmed in N.Y. They built the the A.C. boardwalk on a lot in Brooklyn.

The road reminded me of Island Beach State Park, but I haven't been there in years.

He may have been driving south to get to the causeway to get off of the island. If you drive north out of AC, you hit the Absecon Inlet.

True, but the only witness is dead. He also didn't need to get people on the scene, being that time period. he just picked him up, put him in the back, and called it a days work.

South of Atlantic city in that day would most likely have been a much less populated area then north heading into NY.

Just an idea. I've never been a huge stickler for this kinda gotcha stuff, especially if it was a decision that made for better cinematography.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but this episode was directed by Brad Anderson (THE MACHINIST, TRANSSIBERIAN, SESSION 9)

Oh did he put him in the back? Forgot that. Then what you said makes perfect sense.

I noticed the whole "coast to the left of the car" thing right away as well, which bothered me. I'm glad somebody came up with a couple of plausible explanations, but I still think it was a missed detail. Oh well...they get a lot of them right...

This worries me also.

I love this show because their are so many great storylines that could possibly happen if you think about the future. Things can explode any minute because their is so many volatile enemies and factions.

I think thats why some people call it boring, they want instant action, but i like it alot how its building.

Sopranos showdown with the new york faction took awhile to build up and i really liked that. Two different shows but i am just saying.

Im just worried things will explode and then the season will be over, i cant wait for season 2, i want more now!

The gang of "mooks" moving in on Nucky in AC are soon to be hamburger. I thought it was quite a bright moment when Rothstein made them sign $500K insurance policies, knowing that they were a throwaway stategy. His real move will come from another direction.

++1, the life insurance idea is brilliant. Lets them know they are worth a lot of money dead so they better perform. That would sure give me some incentive.
I also agree they are a smoke screen, but I'm betting Nucky will be ahead of him. Nucky seems to have resources and sources of info on multiple levels.

but looking at the expressions on their faces, the knuckleheads from Philly probably had no idea what they were signing. They just did to be in good graces with Rothstein

Well if there was ever any doubt, as we saw at the end of the episode, they aren't too bright.

Y'know, when the show started, I expected Pitt's character to be one of my least favorite. But both the actor and the writing have changed my mind.
"I wasn't going to, but you kinda talked me into it." Priceless!

Another awesome episode, great moments too numerous to mention. I'm really going to miss this one till next year.

I love it when Nucky uses the Tom Mix reference.

While I don't know the actual history, it appears Rothstein and Nucky both have a common interest. Any bets that Lansky acts as a go between to create a business arrangement to include disposal of the rest of the Philly mob?

I completely agree. This series has some fantastic character development, but none better than Jimmy. Classic line.

Nucky knows that Rothstein can't be trusted. He's already robbed Nucky many times and tried to have him killed. Any arrangement between them would be a ruse to attain something else. That said, it doesn't look like either one of them has much to fear from the Philly crowd.

That scene should go down as one of the most classic moments in TV history. I'll always remember it.

While everything you say is true, further conflict between supply/distribution/market is illogical for both. While Rothstein doesn't trust Nucky, Rothstein holds Nucky responsible for the highjacked shipment, trust isn't required when both can profit greatly from cooperation. Nucky's original plan to deal with Rothstein went out the window as a result of the executions.

Rothstein needs product. Lansky will confirm Nucky is more than capable of playing hard ball. If the rest of the Philly mob is disposed of, as a piece offering, Rothstein could then at least claim the Philly mob was out of control and their actions weren't authorized. The only way both of them are going to get what they want, given that war was a failure, is a truce. These two are smart enough to figure out how to make peace and the bundle that will go with it.

Of course I'm only guessing. Nucky might have enough business in Chicago alone to move all his product with a better return. Still, I predict cooler heads will prevail between Rothstein and Nucky.

Straightlaced Federal Agent Nelson Van Alden drinking and hooking up with Nucky's former girlfriend Lucy was a nice twist.
Van Alden is a most interesting character.
