when I watched the episode I knew it was Owen in the crate right from the get go...a delivery at 4:00 AM in the morning?...was pretty obvious what was in the box

Owen certainly wouldn't have sent Masseria to Nucky in a box.

While I don't dispute your comment, because it involves your state of mind, consider this.

We're in the early 1920's. It's about 125 miles between NYC and Atlantic City. As best I can tell the hit on Masseria took place late afternoon/early evening the previous day. Unless Masseria had a crate, driver and truck outside the bath ready to go, getting the crate to Nucky by 4am the next morning would have been quite a feat. Not impossible perhaps, but certainly a stretch.

To be honest I thought the crate contained a bomb, triggered by prying the top off. After Babette's I'd have thought Nucky wouldn't have opened any mystery packages to begin with.

I tend not to focus on the time details as I'm sure they took some creative liberties in order to make it work for a TV show...making a TV show exciting requires some things to be taken at face value (case in point the TV show 24, which took place in real time, where they were able to navigate anywhere around the entire city in 10-15 minutes)...if Masseria knew that a hitman was on his way then it stands to reason that he could have the crate ready to go immediately...he wanted to send a message to Nucky so I'm sure he had enough time to plan for it

also they didn't say how much time passed between the Owen killing and the delivery, so it could have been a day or 2 later...the show does jump around in time a lot

While I was hoping it was a stripper, this was the first thought that came to my mind. Why is he opening a mysterious crate after someone just tried to kill him?

my point was, who delivers packages at 4:00 AM in the morning?...did delivery companies make deliveries at that time in the 1920's?...doubt it...it was obviously something bad...if a UPS guy came to my door at 4:00 AM and told me he had a delivery I wouldn't open the door

+1, thought it was to soon to have owen shipped back, thought it was a bomb or some sort of graphic symbol, just not owen.

I saw that coming also, Owen killed, never expected a box though, nice touch. And here is a point, will it all end with this season? Nucky is going down. I think the next two weeks are going to be the two best episodes ever, and I can see the end of Nucky coming also. Bah!
I hope not!!

Without Nucky there is no show, so I am not going to worry about that.

It's funny, Gillian used Rosetti's muscle to escort Harrow out of the house, making it clear to him that Rosetti's men are her men. So, now Rosetti has an expert sniper as his enemy, a sniper who's killed 63 men and once waited 3 days for a German sniper to move (scratched his face as I recall) so he could put a bullet in his head. Good luck walking around in public in Atlantic City there Gyp!

Although Richard DOES have something to live for (his new girlfriend), he is NOT someone to provoke (Hello Gillian!).
Gillian made the mistake of trying to crush Richard's dream, and that can't end well for those around him....

Richard is hard to follow. Unless his loyalty to Jimmy's son is so strong as to override everything, he's really much better off now. He's free to spend time with his new girlfriend, so it's not like he's being cast adrift with no reason to go one living. Perhaps he's going to remove the obsticle between him and his dream(him/ Jimmy's son/his girlfriend being a family), Rosetti.

If Rosetti is killed off I have little doubt who'll do him in. The question is "if".

I've had the idea in my head for about 3 weeks now that Harrow should off Gillian and take the kid under his wing. Now that he's got a girlfriend in the picture it's just more in the cards I think. Sadly I don't think Harrow will catch a break long term.

Harrow has already told Nucky he would not go against him and even said he treated him well. Business is business was the phrase I think he used regarding Jimmy's death and with a common enemy now in Gillian, and Nucky needing someone to take Owen's place... well I think it lines up well for Harrow to once again work for Nucky who also is a softie for kids and family "rescues" if you will. I think Harrow will have no issue taking out some of Gyp's men if not Gyp himself along the way either.

Going back to Owen's death too, I find it curious that the only person who knew the precise details of the attempt by Owen not to be seen/heard from since is Mickey Doyle who I would not exactly call the most honorable type.

Can't wait for next week though. Hope it delivers after a great set up this last episode.

Agreed, Gillian has always thought of herself as "untouchable" which is why she keeps the company that she does....I think she underestimated Richard and his abilities. She also tried to make his life as miserable as hers, when that failed, she tried to shame him, and when that didnt work, she kicked him out when she felt that she had protection again...The jealosy she showed after seeing that picture was what starrted her own downfall with Richard....

It wont be better really, the only way it will trully be better is if Gillian is "gone"....

Its strange how last season Capone and Eli were plotting to kill Nucky....

Now they are coming to his rescue......

That preview of next week's episode leads me to think Capone's assistance is going to be short lived. But your point is well put.

At this point in history Capone still works for Torrio. While the show has given us a pipeline of liquor going from Atlantic City to Chicago, giving Torrio/Capone an interest in the war between Nucky and Masseria, I was wondering if this is historically correct? I thought the liquor coming into Chicago came from Canada.

Does anyone know if during prohibition the Chicago Outfit received any material amount of merchandise from the east coast? Don't get me wrong, the Capone connection is great for the show. I'd just like to know if Chicago and NY stayed on their side of the fence. Or not.

Chicago got most, if not all, of their booze from Canada.
Either overland or by boat or by a combination.
However, it would make sense to have another supply route (not putting all your eggs in one basket kinda thing ).
