Looking for some new Con (or heist) movies

This weekend I was looking through my stack of discs for a movie to watch and realized I have not seen a good "Con" movie in quite some time. Likewise, the good old heist movies. I just love these, lots of fun when done well.

However, I don't have any "new" con/heist movies to watch. I've run through all the ones I have.... So, give me some good con movie and heist move recommendations!

BTW Some I have not seen, and would love a rating on.

And please, for the love of God, no spoilers! These are con/heist movies! How about just on a scale of 1-10 (10 being The Sting).

Nine Queens
Shade
Dog Day Afternoon
Flawless
Thief
Topkapi
Rififi

It would help if we knew what you have all ready seen......

Anyway, here are a couple to get you started

"Nueve reinas" (Nine Queens) - "The story of two small-time swindlers, Juan (Gastón Pauls) and Marcos (Ricardo Darin), who team up after meeting in a convenience store and become involved in a half million dollar deal."

Highly Recommended, great movie!

"The Spanish Prisoner" - "Moody, austere, and unabashedly clever, THE SPANISH PRISONER is familiar ground for puzzle-loving writer-director David Mamet. Campbell Scott plays the Hitchcockian hero Joe Ross, an unassuming fall guy who has invented a mysterious process worth an unnamed, but presumably enormous, figure. Joe's share in the reward is uncertain, however, and his growing nervousness is subtly stoked by Jimmy Dell (Steve Martin), a charming and apparently wealthy new friend. Suddenly Joe finds himself wondering who he can trust: his boss, his friends, Jimmy, the FBI, or even the girl at work who has a crush on him (Rebecca Pidgeon, speaking her husband's lines as only she can)."

Highly Recommended

You must have posted this while I was writing my reply. All of the ones you've mentioned are very good with the exception of Flawless (don't waste your time on Flawless).

"Criminal" is pretty good, with John C. Reilly.

I'd easily recommend THE BANK JOB. I also liked THE SCORE with the trifecta of DeNiro, Norton, and Brando.
The Brothers Bloom is a more recent con heist movie with bits of "Fantastic" dramady.

David Mamet's Heist is a very fun film to watch. It has Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, Delroy Lindo, and plenty of funny dialogue.

You know a lot of movies warrenP, so it's hard to believe you haven't seen these already. But...

House of Games (dir. Mamet 1987)
The Anderson Tapes (dir. Lumet, 1971)

Not exactly new, but newer than a couple of your examples above.

I love con movies – one of my favorite genres.

Flawless was okay, but not one of my top picks. Low on the intensity scale.

High intensity - F/X

Confidence – a great cast and well done.

One of my favorites - The Game

Another favorite - Matchstick Men

Most on this board didn’t like The Italian Job, I enjoyed it. Hey, Charlize...

The Ocean Eleven series were good fun.

Also had one of my favorites – Sam Rockwell.

Decent, but I didn’t like Diego Luna. Almost anyone else would have made it better, IMO.

Definitely. Although I thought Lindsay Crouse was stiff.

This seems to be a pretty small genre... I didn't want to list what I've already seen as to influence any other replies - I'm very open in my movie watching.

Anderson Tapes I haven't seen, so I'll add that to the list.

Otherwise, it looks like we may have exhausted the list soon!

There are a couple of very well known movies that most don't readily think of as con/heist movies, but in fact that's what they are at their core. Part of the cleverness is that we don't realize we're watching a con/heist movie until very late in the game, after we've been conned into thinking we were watching a movie about something else.

One was directed by Lawrence Kasdan and the other by Alfred Hitchcock. Some of you might know which ones they are based on that info alone, of course.

Since part of the deal is that we're not supposed to know we're actually watching a con/heist movie until the jig is up, I don't know how else to list them here without spoiling some of the con...except to, well, add them as spoilers:

You mentioned, "Dog Day Afternoon". I guess you can almost consider it a classic. Al Pacino when he was a decent actor. This also reminded me of "Killing Zoe", which I like better than DDA.

Forgot one.

Shattered. I really liked this one, but I got couple of, ehs, after a few friends watched it.

The Lavender Hill Mob with Alec Guiness. Classic.

Good call. Nothing like a swig of champagne to make your day.

Heist and The Spanish Prisoner are excellent, particularly the latter, which is a very intelligent and well done flick.

Sweet! Now I have a full list to go after. I have about a dozen to watch now, some of which I hadn't heard of before.

Thanks!

The Grifters with John Cusack, Annette Benning and Angelica Houston.

Perhaps not that obscure but surely one of the best.

One on the list at Wiki which I forgot and is a MUST SEE - "Bound"

JACKIE BROWN and OUT OF SIGHT make a good double feature.

And if you want something a little askew, check out THE LIMEY and HARD EIGHT. Those movies are essentially about what happens to the characters of these genres when they get old.

Great suggestions. I really love Out of Sight.

I will add one of my all time favorites not mentioned: Blood Simple.

My wife and I enjoyed:

Although it is more of a comedy than a con/heist movie, it did have the heist plot. And, William H. Macy's character was a bit "eccentric".

Some of these are sort of borderline as well (and many you probably know), but I think they all involve swindles, larceny or kleptomania of some sort...

At Close Range 1986
Carlito's Way 1993
Charade 1963
Chinatown 1974
Deadfall 1968 A bit slow moving at times and more of a drama, but still decent, with a nice music score. DVD is decent.
Family Plot 1976
The First Great Train Robbery 1979
Funeral in Berlin 1966
The Italian Job 1969 Still prefer the original.
Kelly's Heroes 1970
The Ladykillers 1955
Marnie 1964
The Moon-Spinners 1964 Like many Disney classics, the (4:3) DVD needs some sprucing.
Peeper 1975
It Takes a Thief 1968 TV series Still unavailable on DVD. Episodes used to be streamable on imdb, but looks like they were yanked.
The Thief Who Came to Dinner 1973 Decent little 70's yarn, which still appears unavailable on R1 DVD (VHS only).
The Thomas Crown Affair 1968 or 1999
The Truth About Charlie 2002
To Catch a Thief 1955
What's Up, Doc? 1972
The Wrong Box 1966
