I would bring both the ps3 and the tv to best buy and show them the issue. There are plenty of other tv's and ps3s there where you can prove your point. Not being able to connect to your tv via hdmi is a big problem.

Also this doesn't seem like a widespread issue bc this is the first time I have heard of this. Anyone else w a ps3 have this issue per an unscientific poll?

I vote one for no as my old ps3 works perfectly w my ps3. Knock on wood. :-(

I plan on doing just that this week. Do you have the newest firmware installed on the PS3? because that is the only thing that has changed about the time it stopped working.

Have you tried powering on your ps3 after your tv is powered on and on the correct input? My ps3 is working fine with this TV. I haven't tried other inputs but it is connected to HDMI4 (side).

On another note, the only issue I am continuing to experience is the tv constantly connects and disconnects from my PC forcing the computer to play the hardware insert / eject sounds over and over. This only occurs when I am using it on the PC and then change the TV to another input (to my satellite receiver or Xbox 360 for example). The only way I can clear this is to switch the tv's input back to the PC and then switch it back to another input. The problem always occurs the first time however. Is anyone else experiencing this?

47LE5400 - 3 months old. Picture and sound disappeared this morning. TV powers on (the "buttons" on the bezel light up as does the LG logo) but nothing on the screen: no LG logo, no clock. Nothing. Nada.

Tried resetting (with the help of LG over the phone), tried different outlet, switching input source (although I can't see what it's selecting, obviously).

TV is connected directly to cable, has PS3 and WDTVLiveHub player connected as well.

Anybody have any suggestions/input?

I have the newest firmware yes.

Just be patient with them. You are dealing with some dense people over there. :-(

When i connect both HDMI and composite(for headphones, because headphones jack on this TV kind of suck), my Xbox 360 does the same thing(resets constantly). I guess it's audio-video synchronization and i'm almost 100% sure it will do this on any TV.

Do you have audio from PC running to your TV ?

TV is broken

ok i just checked my PS3 still works even if I turn on the PS3 before the TV.

not I'm worried a PS3 update might cause it to become incompatible with the TV in the future

Wrong. When I connect it to my Samsung UN40C6500 40'' LED TV it does not do this. I also don't have the problem with connecting something via HDMI like I do on my LG.

I had a strange issue with my TV last night. The TV would became unresponsive to the remote and then over responsive to the remote.

Example, would try to increase the volume and the TV done nothing, then all of a sudden the volume would slowly increase to 100 without even touching the remote. I even put my hand over the remote sensor and the volume kept increasing and the TV on/off light kept flashing as if it was receiving a ir signal.

The same issue was also happening changing channels and trying to navigate the menu too.

I done a rest of the TV, which did not fix the issue. Then after about 20 minutes the issue went away.

Has anyone else witnesses this? And ideas what is going on?

change batteries in remote?
JoshZH I am only connecting my PC to the TV using a DVI to HDMI cable. My computer doesn't have a HDMI port on it. This PC did not have this problem with my older lcd before it failed.
This problem has existed since the day I purchased this TV with the 06.xx firmware on it.

Dvda69 I think you have a ghost in your house.

First thing I checked. Put new batteries in same problem. Also check all the buttons on the remote to make sure one of them was not stuck.

If I was you, I'd buy a cheap universal remote to test it out. Get one from Walmart, either way it goes, you can just send it back.

I think I've got one in a box in the basement. If it does it again I'll check it out. Thanks!

It would be nice if Isdec got his PS3 issues resolved. Just to know we don't have looming problem

I see. Well, i was suggesting this because my PS3 with similar set-up(hdmi+composite) does not behave like this, so i thought it's an Xbox 360 problem.

sorry, whoever was having PS3 issues then

The LE5300 seems to be sold out at Costco now. There was only a demo left last time I checked.

This is almost scary to hear about, for me. I had the exact same problem with the set I just got rid of (Sceptre). It would randomly just crank the volume all the way up and it had nothing to do with the remote. During the final month I owned it I taped a plastic block on top of the VOL- button to prevent the run-away volume problem. I suspect the problem was a defective input buffer chip for the buttons on the set which most likely means replacing the main board. Repair estimate was $250+ so I dumped the set on craigslist and bought LG at Costco. My LG has worked *perfectly* so far. I love it. If yours is under warranty I would start the repair/replace process now.
Most major flaws/defects show up in the first month, so it's good to test everything thoroughly in the first month during the exchange period

Volume changing by itself doesn't sound normal

There's one thing . The light from the screen can interfere with remotes of other devices like cable boxes. Happened with my previous TV and I had to set the back light higher
post #1315 of 1508
Chas Hart you are a saint. Thanks for the settings. Well after having the set for 30 days I went to Best Buy on the last day before the set was officially mine, I panicked and got a different TV. The black levels just weren't good enough for me....so I thought. I instead purchased the much steeper samsung UN55c8000 and at first I was blown away by the black levels (INKY!) but then after that novelty wore off I noticed that the level of detail was nothing compared to the LG 5400. Very apparent when watching the news or anything with a close up view. I've come to realize that there is no perfect TV. There is always a trade off.
if you have inky blacks but all the details are crushed to a big blob of flat black, it a worse trade off IMO
post #1317 of 1508
I agree there is that fine balance. Seems like there is always a compromise, but I would think that the sammy 8000 series would be clearly superior vs the lg 5400.

I would not dispute this battle bc I know I'd have bought the Sammy 8000 series if I had the dough. :-)
Maybe it's a general trend for Samsung to have inky blacks at the expense of shadow detail. This was a problem in the Series 6 model I tried and I noticed it on a friend's Series 7, so I have no problems believing it might also be the case in higher models.

On the LG , there is not only shadow details, but color in those details (not just shades of gray). I suspect it's the trade off of using an IPS panel . Notice when you select an input with nothing on the screen is silvery purple instead of deep black.

Anyways it's a huge bonus for the LG , and made me I realize what people describe as "inky black" is not so essential to a great picture quality
post #1319 of 1508
The lg black levels and shadow detail are better than the samsung. Lg is the only company that got the local dimming right. The 5400 does not have local dimming (the 5500 has local dimming), but any lg set with local dimming will have inky blacks. I have the LX9500 and it has the best picture and design out of any tv on the market. The black levels measured at 0.0 meaning no light got through and blacks are super inky with top notch shadow detail. Backlit LED tv's done right will always outperform any edgelit led in every category. In response to the D8000 it does have a good picture, but it is not a better picture then the Samsung B8500 backlit led set(which is the best tv Samsung has ever made). My friend had the B8500 and the D8000 side by side and we compared then he took the D8000 back right away and stated that he will see what samsung will do next year. The B8500 outperformed the D8000 in picture quality black level and shadow detail and in every catagory except 3d(the B8500 is a 2d only tv). The D8000 still has light bleeding, but it is not as bad as the previous C8000.

I saw the LX9500 in a store but it was like 3500$ (47 inches
