NewComer needs advice... I need a sub!

Dear friends, I finally decided joining this community. Sorry for my english as it is not my first language.

I am buying my home theater nowadays and I just got my stunning pair of Klipsch RF63. I am looking now for a good subwoofer to fit. I thought of the rsw-10d klipsch (10" 500W rms 24Hz) but they are not selling that model anymore so I need advice in any other option. Actually, I dont even have a receiver yet as I am waiting for the Onkyo SR608 to arrive to Guatemala (7.2+100W; 3DReady).

As I live in Guatemala, my choices are reduced to:

1) Klipsch; 2) Polk; 3) JBL; 4)Jamo; 5)Bose (yes they are everywere); 6) PSB; 7) Harman Kardon 8) Onkyo;

My requeriments are: The smaller the better; The lower Hz the better; about 1000 USD; wife's factor: good looking sub.

Thank you very much for your advice and opinions!

Unfortunately, the brands you are limited to do not offer the best sub performance for the money, but out of those choices, I'd go with Klipsch. Your main speakers are capable of big sound output, so you need a sub that can try to keep up. In your price range, I'd go with a RW 12d.

Don't be too quick to rule out North American ID manufacturers, most won't sell internationally but some(we) do. Shipping restrictions may limit the choices but you could likely get something quite nice. PM me if you would like some specific options.

Thank you very much for your answer.

What do you think about Klipsch XW-500d Subwoofer? Better than the rw-12d?

Thank you again.

I am a Klipsch owner. The Klipsch XW-500D is an excellent sub.
Very musical and the is design great, it passes the wife factor. The 10 inch fiberglass woofer -probably Mirage inspired since they own that company too- is superb. Very tight, musical bass-all the way down to 21 Hz. not boomy- .. Give it 50 to 60 hours of play and you will be amazed at how defining it becomes as it breaks in. Klipsch usually does not do a sealed cabinet on their subs. This one, for the money is a good deal, available in the USA for around $500.00 Very easy to navigate with the digital display screen on the top of the sub... and set up is just so simple. There are three internal memory presets you can program to your liking.
Have no reservations about getting this sub. With your budget, depending on what they cost down there, you may be able to get two for around $1000.00 .. I run a dual sub setup in my system.. good luck.. Uncle Willie

Who is "we"? If you are a rep for an ID speaker/subwoofer company, you should identify yourself as such. A simple tag in your signature line would be helpful.

That's Nathan Funk from Funky Waves Audio in Vancouver. He has been around these parts for sometime. I assumed EVERYONE here knew him.

He's been on the forum since 2007 and he has 74 posts. That's hardly a lot of exposure. Besides, it doesn't matter if he's got 20K posts; he should still identify himself as a vendor so people can put his comments into perspective. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with vendors posting on the forum. In fact, I enjoy the postings of many factory rep's, and many of them a quite helpful, (see my signature for example.) But it's still useful to know who the comments are coming from.

Yes, thats right, the xw 500d is about 1000$ here, sad bad true.

What about a jamo sub 650? is 150Watts higher and like 200$ cheaper. Do you think is that a good option or the xw500d is really a much better sub?

Thank again for your help.

Hello all!

mgkdragn at the end and thank to you, I decided for the xw-500d klipsch sub, that 21Hz bass is important. It will take 1 month (at least) for it to come to Guatemala, but still, I dont have the amplifier so I am not in a hurry

I will let you all know how it works with my klipsch rf-63.

I will open a new thread to ask for surround systems advice, hahaha.

As a center channel, I am getting the rc-64 but the klipsch surround speakers are too big and ugly.

Thank you everyone!
