Surround sound startup delay

Thread Starter
Hello All,

I am brand new to this forum, however, I have turned to this in the past for suggestions, so I know there is a lot of knowledge with the users. I am hoping you all can give me some insight as to what might be occuring with my 5.1 system.

I recieved my Polk RM705 5.1 speakers and I hooked it up to an old receiver, just so I could play around with it. I used an RCA cable from my directv receiver into my A/V receiver (I am replacing this very soon, so I will reconfigure.). My issue is, the speakers will start to work about 30 seconds after the TV and reciever are turned on. I have not experienced anything like this in the past. Will this continue once I upgrade my receiver? Should I just leave my receiver on all the time?

Any suggestions are grealy appreciated.

Thanks.

Most receivers have a delay after the power is applied before the speakers are turned, this is to give the power supply a chance to stabilize before hitting it with high current demands, so this may be normal operation.
If the receiver is now automatically switching to the correct sound format being supplied from the Direct TV box (5.1 digital, stereo) this may add a few additional seconds to the start up delay.
