If all are between 6-16 ohm, yes indeed.

Hey guys,

Making my way through the thread. Some great information here.

I'm just getting my feet wet into a REAL home theater setup, beginners stuff for now. Been using a crappy HTiB Sony set for awhile, decided the inner audio enthusiast in me wasn't going to take it anymore.

I picked up two Polk Monitor 60 towers and a Denon 791 for starters. The center channel and sub will come later, and the rears will be a future upgrade when I have the space (probably about a year).

Can someone give me a bit of guidance as to the proper setup for just a 2.0 setup?

From what I'm reading, the Audyssey will need the speakers set as "Large" since there is no sub being used. Is there anything beyond that I should be aware of, settings wise?

I appreciate the responses, and if I missed something somewhere please be gentle, I'm a newb!

there's really not much else to do but run Audyssey at this point. Once the Denon "knows" you only have two speakers, it will automatically downmix all content to 2 channels and you can just lean back and enjoy

You're awesome man. I've been enjoying your information all throughout this thread.

Thanks a ton!

Any opinion on "gray market" 1911 for under $400?

I ordered a 1910 through Electronics Expo (through Amazon) for about that price. I got an email about 6 hours later indicating they were out of 1910 and they offered a free upgrade to the 1911.

Kind of taking a chance but I see they are still listed.

I got a legit 1911 from EE for $425 back in July. Why deal with the risk?

As already noted, you can often get a brand new AVR with full 2 year warranty from one of the on-line e-tailers for very close to the same price as a "gray market" purchase. Only better choice would be if you could get gray market + a Square Trade warranty for much less than brand new.

I'm not hearing a lot of good things about EE because they apparently have a really bad return policy.

New to the forums. Hope this is the right place for my question. Just purchased a Denon 791. Looking to pair it with a set of Polk Audio RTi4's for the fronts and surrounds with a polk CSi3 for the center. Also looking to run a PSW111 for the sub. Would the Denon 791 powering these speakers in a 16 by 17 room be adequate?

If you purchase through Amazon, don't you have them backing the product?

At least the few times I have had a problem with a product purchased through amazon, I have always gotten quick resolution.

I've been looking at lots of online sources for the 1911 and some admit they sell gray market. Most offer their own warranty instead of the manufacturer's but read the fine print regarding returns, some charge huge fees for "restocking". I'll wait till next week to see what black friday sales are locally.

I have a question about white noise. I had to run Audyssey again as I was setting up new subwoofer. I then some issues with my CD input (which is an Apple airport express streaming itunes) so I found myself turning the volume up quite a bit with no actual music streaming. I was kind of surprised by the amount of white noise that was coming out of the speakers, say at around -30 dB. Turning off Dynamic EQ the white noise was not noticeable at that level and listening position. I had to raise the volume to about -10 dB to start hearing the noise with Dynamic EQ off. Again, this is with either no input or cd paused. Is this normal?
Thanks

I have a problem with video being frozen when I turn on my TV with the 1911 unit standby pass-thru. Once I turn on the AVR and back off it will reset it self. Any Ideas?? I have a 61" Samsung DLP.

Really? Not sure where as EE is easily the most often discussed and recommended vendor in these Denon threads. EE's return policy is no different than most others out there generally charging a 15-20% restocking fee if you return it "just because" you don't like it. Perhaps you might be better served buying from your local Best Buy for full return and no restocking fee .. and, oh yeh, full MSRP.

Ensure Anynet+ on the Sammy is turned OFF and you might also consider resetting the AVR's microprocessor.

Best Buy is just as bad as EE. I would go to Amazon, Walmart, Target, KMart, etc. instead of those. EE should be better if you can go through Amazon but I would never go to BB.
So I should go to KMart or Walmart to purchase my next Denon?

BB has an excellent return policy (30 days, no questions asked, full refund). If you can find a clearance or open box (which are all sold with the same return policy and full OEM warranty) you have a great combo. I took home a clearance 988 and open box 789 for an in-home A/B comparison, and they were glad to do it!

Give J&R a call they will beat EE's promo price. Just have promo code available when you call.
I just replaced my Denon AVR-1706 with a AVR-1911. Ran the automatic set-up, been reading the manual and everything seems great!

Hopefully, I won't have too many questions!

Seriously? Walmart, Target??? First you dis EE then BB (in both cases wrongly) .... me thinks you're in the wrong thread.
I'm saying this because of both EE's and BB's return policy which is a joke in both cases with re-stocking fees, etc..

"...dis..." What is "dis"?

"... me thinks..."

I think you don't know how to speak or write or both.
^ dis=disrespect, common American slang

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks..."
Maybe we should look into the bard's return policy?

Chill, dude. Call BB and they will confirm the info in my post above, no restocking fee except for digital camera and laptops.
I get most of my electronics at BB, but that's not why I'm here.

First question regarding the 1911. Where/how exactly do I set it where it does NOT turn off my PC when I shut down the receiver? I thought I was losing my mind as one minute I had PC video, shut down, came back later and no video (because my PC was off and I didn't know it!). I see the discussion about HDMI control in the manual but where is the ON/OFF switch, in set-up? At first I thought it was on the AVR but I'm not finding it.

Thanks!
I'm trying to take the audio from the media player of my Samsung 55C8000 TV back to my 2311CI and the obvious way seems to be using the audio return channel since I really don't want to run additional cables from the TV to the receiver.

The problem I'm having is that with HDMI Control on to enable support for the ARC, whenever I turn the receiver on, the input changes after a few seconds to TV and I have to change it back to the appropriate input, which is inconvenient because everything is invoked via activities set-up on my Harmony Remote.

Now I should also mention that on the TV side, I need to enable HDMI-CEC (ANynet+ in Samsung speak) in order for the signal to be passed upstream to the receiver as required, so it may be an issue there, but I need to start somewhere!

How can I stop this happening. Am I missing something obvious?

All advice and ideas gratefully accepted!
The input source changing to TV is normal when Anynet+ is set to ON. When using ARC, the TV source input is the "appropriate input."
Thanks for the response jdsmoothie... so I think you're saying that since Anynet+ must be ON in order for ARC to be available, then it will always change the input to TV on the 2311.

If that's the case, then I guess I will have to use the optical out instead and disable Anynet+ so that the input source isn't always changed whenever I power on the devices.

Do I understand correctly?

Defective unit?

I bought a brand new "never opened, factory sealed" avr 2311ci from ebay. I have had it for about a few days now, and day one everything was working correctly.

Yeasterday issues started. After hooking everything up, and the appearance of everything working right, My comcast DVR started to have handshake issues. It would show programming for 4-5 seconds then go to a black screen.

On top of that the HD radio screen was no longer showing the on screen display through HDMI.

This morning when I woke up, my bluray player is doing the same thing that the comcast box is. I have did a factory reset, (microprossessor reset) and it wont fix any of the issues. Any idea on whats causing this and how to fix it, or did I just get shafted on ebay? I have registured the product w/ denon and it appears to be legit.
Thanks for the help! Turned out to be that the HDMI chain was broken at the tv. The TV did a software update, and was causing issues. After a reset of the tv's settings, all issues have cleared up.
