Great! Thanks for your reply! I'm assuming when input signal is 7.1 the avr will also output it into 5.1?

And where can I read more about this? I was researching and didnt find any answers. Thanks.

Yes, provided you have configured the AVR for 5.1. Pretty much all receivers will downmix when the number of channels on the playback source is greater than the number of channels configured in the system.

Thanks for the help everyone! Made some tweaks and the system sounds much better now!

Anyone know where I can get a replacement cap cover thing for the microphone/aux area on the front? I called Denon and they had no clue what I was talking about.

Give one of the Denon authorized parts distributors a call and they may be able to set you up.

Lost front right channel:

So about a month after my 1yr of ownership I have lost my front right channel.

-Are there user serviceable fuses ?
-Is it worth pursuing as a warranty claim?
-Is there anyway to use the other channels that I am not using (only using 5.1 setup)?

Thanks

Have you confirmed the FR wiring hasn't come loose at either the AVR or speaker? Have you tried swapping the speaker out with the FL speaker to see if you haven't blown the FR speaker? And finally, if all wiring is confirmed correct and the speaker works when connected to the FL posts, then try resetting the microprocessor. What model do you have as this thread covers 4 different models?
I have the 891.
Yes I swapped speakers to verify it is the FR.
I will try to reset the micro this weekend, I hadnt thought of that.

I also noted that there is support for bi-amping. I am curious if this is an option.

Thanks
Yes, that would be an option ... to use the SBR speaker post and set AMP ASSIGN to "Bi-Amp".
Don't Denon Receivers have a 2 yr warranty?
^^
Depends on the model ... the 1911/791/891 have a 2 year warranty while the 2311CI has a 3 year warranty. So if dblespresso cannot get the FR speaker to work doing a reset, then he could likely still get it repaired under warranty if that's what you're driving at.

update:
So after the reset, the FR was extremely weak during the auto-setup (chirping), probably 10% of the FL

I set the FR to the to BI-AMP and connected to SURR. BACK R, and it seemed to recognize it as FR. So this option seems to work for now. Thanks jdsmoothie

Thanks Hardballpete, I hadnt noticed the warranty terms. I may pursue this. I am not sure if the Fake Bi-amping might mess something else up.
No reason it should mess anything up, but warranty repair would be prudent if you can be without the unit for a few weeks or so.

Hi All,

***** Forgive me if this topic has been covered before but this Thread is massive ******

Ive just setup a Denon 1911 at my mates and connected everything up correctly on the amp and input sources. The problem I have is the subwoofer (connected via the Sub Pre Out) cuts out after a couple of hours of playing music.

This has happened several times and I stumbled across a fix whereby I remove the PRE-OUT SUB RCA cable and replacing it with another.

Im now going crazy as I cant keep swapping the RCA cable everytime the sub cuts out, especially after playing GT 5 on the PS3 for many hours.

Please, please, please can someone help and give any suggestions on a permenant fix. I heard theres also some sort of reset of the amp that can be done, will this help ? and if yes then how do I go about resetting the amp ?

Thanks in advance
eM

@ hardballpete - I have the same thing happening to my AVR-1911, only its my Front Left channel. It had nearly 0 output, just a little higher frequencies. After resetting the micro, the output was better, but still didn't quite seem as loud as the Front Right channel (both at 0 dB level). Not long after doing this, the output kept decreasing, and is now essentially at zero again.

Also, before resetting the micro, while watching TV, I would get these (sorry for lack of better description) large "pops" in the speakers. It would just go from outputting what was on TV, to a "pop! pop! pop!" then the sound would come back. It seemed to do this maybe not every day, but at least once every 2-3 days on average. Has anyone had this happen?

@ jdsmoothie - I have been a "viewer" on this site for a few year, and I know you used to own a xx10 model (I also have an AVR-1910), and you had a post about Firmware updates for it (it wouldn't play HD Audio from a BR Player). I forget where you got your info from, but do you know if there have been Firmware updates to the AVR-1911? If so, do you know anything about them?

Since I am still under warranty, I will be shipping my 1911 to Panurgy in NJ to get serviced. Hopefully they find the issues I mentioned.

Thanks for the help...

Nick...
IIRC, there "may" be a firmware update (although have no information on what it would fix) for the 1911 so you'll need to ask Panurgy to update the firmware otherwise they don't normally do it as a course of action.

Please can someone help me with the below...
My set up is as follows:
1. Mac mini (as Media server)
2. TV : Sony Bravia HX855 (3D)
3. Denon AVR-1911
4. Harman Kardon surround system

The problem is that when I connect my Mac mini to the HX855 TV via the AVR-1911, I get a nice picture but it blinks every 3 seconds
(i.e. the screen goes black for a short period and then the picture is shown again). This happens at even intervals.
I've connected the Mac mini directly to the HX855 TV and it works fine so it's definitely something to do with the AVR-1911.
When the Mac mini is connected to the AVR, the AVR screen shows "Multi Ch In" which I presume means that the decoding
is done by my the Mac mini and not the AVR? Could this be the problem and if so, how can I change this?
By the way, I didn't have this blink/flicker problem with my old TV set.
Please can someone help to shed some light on this?

Many thanks in advance
This issue is not likely caused because the Mac-mini is decoding the audio to PCM rather than bitstreaming it, rather that HTPCs sometimes have issues when connecting to an AVR. Try the tips suggested in the link below ....

Many thanks jdsmoothie.
I have tried the various things including trying different HDMI ports and cables to no avail.
Just to clarify, the only thing that has changed in my setup is that now instead of a
"Sony Bravia KDL46W5810U 46-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p" TV, I am connecting my 1911 to a
"Sony Bravia HX855 3D TV". The same Mac Mini used to work well with 1911 connected to the previous TV.
Could this be because I haven't reset the microprocessor after upgrading my TV? Grateful for any ideas.
It's possible that a reset would resolve the issue, but more likely it's just an issue with the new HDTV. You could try connecting an HDMI splitter/switch between the Mac-mini and AVR.

Thanks, I will try this and post an update...

Sorry, this is a new comment towards a much older post. I have a Samsung pn58b550. There is an hdmi input, input "2" which is also listed as "hdmi-dvi." I experimented one night, and have found that if I plug in my hdmi cable there from my avr 2311ci, I have the option to set RGB to expanded, or full - whichever is proper terminology. Will this give me the full spectrum, or is my avr 2311ci falsely sensing a dvi connection?
probably is because that input is set up to accept a DVI-D connection from a computer, and the receiver is reading the EDID info that it can accept full-range RGB signals. It's hard to say what will actually HAPPEN in practice without some sort of test patterns so you can empirically verify the behavior with different settings.

Out of town for about a week, but I will test. I have the avs709 test patterns and have already calibrated my display, but this discovery was after the fact. From my recollection, the option on my display is only selectable depending on the source signal sent to it. For example, I might be able to choose it when playing a video game or playing a Blu ray, but not always while watching tv.
As always, thanks for the quick reply and help. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I experiment further. I am just now starting to understand color depth and how colors relate to bits and certain hdmi variants! You guys always keep me learning, and I do certainly appreciate it.

I'm new to the home audio game... I recently bought the Klipsch Quintet 5.0 set because it was on sale. I currently have Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers. The subwoofer is more than enough for my living room so I was thinking of using it with my 791. Does anyone see an issue using an adapter to convert to the 3.5mm to RCA, then a Y adapter to connect that to the pre-out? I don't want to break the sub or the receiver!

I know the thought of using a computer sub on a receiver makes some audiophiles cringe, but it's all I've got for now!

thanks

That should work fine although a 3.5mm male to RCA mono female adapter would work as well.
