Hi

Can anyone please confirm if the 1911 can accept (from BD /laptop) and pass through Full RGB (0-255) *untouched*?

I asked this question in 1910 thread and the response was not very clear and someone mentioned that it cannot. With the 1910, even with i/p scalar on or off , the Amp does not pass through full RGB signal untouched and introduces some processing creating a washed out image if the source and display are both set to full RGB color space. If I remove the amp from the chain, it works perfect.

The AVR 1910 works fine with YCbCr signal and can pass through the YCbCr untouched. It is only the RGB signal where it is failing.

Has this changes in the 1911? I thought al new HDMI 1.3 spec avrs to passsthrough a full RGB signal untouched. The Onkyo 507 I had earlier passed through full RGB without any issue. I would like to blv that the 1911 does a full RGB pass through but want to confirm first with you guys.

This is quite important for me. Any response is appreciated.

if I were a betting man, I would assume it works the same as with the 1910 -- it will only pass full-range RGB to a DVI display.

Its the same black & white text menu that the rest of the receiver setup menu has.

If you haven't seen it, it looks like composite(interference and all) black & white VCR menu style text converted into hdmi.

If i remember correctly you can navigate through different artist / album menus. I didn't play with it long, i was looking to see if you could play videos through just the cable, but you need the denon ipod dock for video.

If you are really curious i might be able to send you a private message with a picture, if this board supports it. (Imagine something really ugly). Send me a message if you'd like me to try.

I was amused to see that the denon logo pops up on my ipod when its plugged into the receiver though.

There isn't a cable included, but your regular usb ipod sync cable works.

Would it be possible to educate me as to what this issue is about or provide a link?

While playing around with video cameras, I've read that computers represent color with a "computer RGB colorspace" where R, G, and B values range from 0-255 while other equipment (perhaps non-digital color info that gets digitized somewhere along the way?) use a "Studio RGB colorspace" where values run 16-235.

I'm guessing this has to do with accurate color representation when playing a BD on a PC/HTPC that is driving a TV as opposed to a PC monitor?

Thanks.

As a Denon fanboy went from 788 > 1910 and looking at getting a model xx12 for my next AVR I gotta huge gripe. Why can't they put some preamp outs on their 1600 or 1900 lower series like Yamaha does?

Anyone else agree?

It looks very much like Onkyo's. Text labels, like old style iPods (before they could display either photos or video). No album art like Pioneer, and it can only be in English/western European.

Cable is not included but it takes normal iPhone/iPod USB cable that you already have.

No argument here, although the vast majority of consumers buying the lower level AVRs are not going to be adding an external amp so it's simply not cost effective to include the pre-outs.

Why do you think they released 3311 before 991?

Also the new features in 4311 will have some who already bought 3311 to upgrade in the fall (not me though).

It seems in the AVR business timing makes a difference.

Sorry for not answering your question, but the faceplate of 3311 is much nicer than 2310 was, so I see why you ask...

the 3-digit models definitely have plastic faceplates...

FYI, if you care about getting a Denon USA warranty, they don't look like an authorized dealer:

This is an international forum and some folks do not have English as their first language. So we try not to get too picky about things like "funky" grammer or even careless spelling.

Although your suggestion is reasonable, I would trust a "No" but not necessarily a "Yes" from an unknown etailer. The Denon site will confirm, but is not necessarily up-to-date so one could contact Denon CS.

Bottom line is that it's simply better to buy from one of the authorized vendors to ensure you get the 2 year Denon warranty of which by far the most popular vendor in these Denon threads is Electronics Expo. Although regardless of who you buy from, call them for their best offer as the vendor's website will usually only list the MSRP.

I went absolutely batty () correcting and grading formal scientific writing assignments by PsyD students this past year. Some of these college grads, including some with English as their 1st language, could not write competently to save their lives (well, at least their grades).

Too funny ... as the expression goes ... sounds like "the pot calling the kettle black."

Listen guys,whatever you`re smoking,let me have some.

Now,getting back to topic.Highdecibles drop ships from an authorized dealer, if you`re looking for a great, affordable deal.Alot more affordable than your example above.Hope that helps.
You never posted whether your receipt says HighDecibels.com or the actual authorized vendor "Safe and Sound."? Unless it says "Safe and Sound" there's no warranty.

Also, Electronics Expo sells at the same price as HighDecibels and there's no issue about an authorized warranty.

Is there a code to program the remote to work with an xbox360? I didn't see one in the menu. (for the 791 remote, if that matters).

(yeah, yeah... i should buy a harmony eventually).

I just bought a 1911 from EE during a recent sale for $425. I feel this was a nice price. I was looking at the 1611 or 791, but was happy with this price, so I went for it. Really looking forward to it as I have a crappy Sony HTIB now. This forum is great, BTW.

Hey fellow Denonites!

I recently picked up my first receiver; a Denon AVR-791.

It's a great unit, loving the features!

But I'm having a major issue with sound when Audyssey is enabled.

I ran the Audyssey setup twice, and the problem persists: what happens is my surround rear (5.1) speakers get boosted way too high, so sounds coming from there (particularly in games) are way too loud!

I'm using the Spherex (see Mirage/Energy) omnisats for my speakers, and I'm wondering if the reflective/occlusive sound is screwing up the Audyssey mic's readings?

Hopefully someone has a solution that doesn't involve buying new speakers, because my wife is already unhappy about how much this cost!

Right now I'm running the system with Audyssey turned off, and it works, but I'd like to utilise Audyssey if possible!

Mods: nuke/move if this is the wrong thread for this!
have you read through the Audyssey section of my FAQ? I have a whole section on "surround are too loud!": http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html#audyssey

which part of "audyssey" is causing the issue? Is it just Dynamic EQ? Because boosting the surrounds is part of what Dynamic EQ does by design. Audyssey is not one homogeneous blob, there are several technologies working together.

what sources are you having problems with? If it's only video games, Dynamic EQ doesn't mix well with a lot of video games for precisely the reason you are hearing. Turning off Dynamic EQ for games (or setting the Refernece Level Offset to "10" or "15") will help.

Thank you sir batpig man, I will check out the FAQ!

Yes it's mostly games when DynEQ is on and none of the available modes or volume leveling (night modes) fixes it...

Other usage is mostly streaming video mainly 2.1 sources...

I noticed on the book of Eli bluray the sounds of gunfire sent to the rear speakers were very loud as well... Very immersive though!

edit: read through the FAQ, I'll try the setup again and then try adjusting the channel level...

Could anyone here who owns a Samsung XXc8000 please answer this question for me. If you are running everything (HDMI) through your receiver, what gauge cable are you using? I was previously using a 3311ci with 28awg hdmi 1.4 cable and was getting some serious banding issues. The only way I could fix it was to turn the Video Convert to OFF.

So, could those of you running this similar setup please help me out here? I'm looking for a new receiver thats 3d capable, but my previous Denon seemed to have issues. Below are pictures of what I'm talking about.

Video Convert ON

Video Convert OFF

Thanks!
