Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 Slim No sound at all!

Hello guys,

I'm trying my best to explain this in english. I have just plugged in my new soundcard, hdav1.3 slim and installed the driver. Plugged in the hdmi in soundcard out and receiver in (yamaha rxv663 capable of HD-audio). And I don't get any sound at all. Anyone any idea how to solve this?

Current settings:

Windows Vista x64
Xonar HDAV center>> HDMI tab under 2 channel audio PCM 96khz HDMI out 2 speakers
On windows audio settings i have tried switching ''Loudspeakers and spdif passtrhough'' neither work. What is happening?

First thing most people here will tell you is to return the card and get a ATI HD5000 series video card. These video cards have an onboard audio chip which will perform the same function as the HDAV Slim.

Advantages:
[1] You can use any software player, not just TMT.
[2] HDAV Slim costs $150 while the cheapest 5000 card is the HD5450 which sells for as low as $35.
[3] No separate card/connection required. One card does it all.

Uhm, I don't know if its possible to send it back. I have it allready opend and in use. While it isn't working for me. Should I report it as a RMA?

But if i can get it to work with your guys help i'm happy too... so:

HDMI out is selected on the card, I've clicked the HDMI picture in Driver Screen. When I play a song I can see that's working on my pc, but my receiver doesn't get any signal. Changed between HDMI slot 1 and 2. Made no difference?

Are you in the US? Where did you buy it from? What is their return policy?

About your problem, there is a thread for that card; do a search and it should pop up. I'm sure someone in there has had a similar problem.

No, I am from the Netherlands we have a free return policy with every online purchase within 2 weeks. And I am thinking about doing it since I just don't get any sound at all.
I found one reaction on this forum:

500 gb 7200
LG Blueray combo
Gigabyte 4850
Vista Home premium
Xonar HDAV 1.3
2 gb hyper X 9600 DDR 2
Silverstone LC 20 black

Epson Home Cinema 1080 UB
Yamaha rxv 3800

I am hoping to get this combo functional but this thread seems gloomy as to whether it will....any tips ?? I noticed somewhere in this thread the the Hardware acceleration should be toned down a notch on the direct x tab.
Wish me luck!!

I just don't get a fricking signal, is it the stupid card or is my receiver HDMI board broken (never used it before)?

I hope not for your sake. Did you check the thread on the Xonar HDAV? There are over 8000 posts, I'm sure you should be able to find your answer in there.
I don't have that card so I can't help you with your problem, sorry. The only advice I had was to return the card and buy a cheaper alternative.
Someone else might have a solution for you. Its probably a simple driver fix, but as I said check that thread, the answer should be in there somewhere.

Connection should be:

Graphic card (HDMI out)->Xonar (HDMI in) / Xonar (HDMI out) -> AVR (HDMI in)

Make sure to click on HDMI tab on Xonar Control Center.

Really? My graphic card has only 2x DVI. So am i forced to use the DVI to hdmi to the xonar in? and then put the Xonar out to the AVR in? Since I aren't using Video at the moment :O?

Use (included) DVI->HDMI cable.

And yes, the HDAV1.3 must have a video feed over the HDMI-in.

Huh :O Ow wait. So, uhm help me out please. I have a CRT monitor that is connected with a VGA<>DVI on my DVI out on my videocard. I have 2 DVI outs. I now connected the second DVI out on the HDMI in of the Xonar. And the Xonar out is connected to HDMI in on my receiver. Still no sound though?

Ow ****me, it works now :O Why the hell didn't they put that in the manual :S Thanks! Going to play with it now.. Btw if i still want to return it how should i state the RMA? Because i allready made a RMA when i gave up on the card... that it was broken. So what to do now :P? Because the videocard soundcard combi sounded quite nice to me (a gamer aswell).
