I just read about this. Sad news indeed. I recall fondly watching Diff'rent Strokes with my entire family when I was but a young lad... actually Gary is a year older than me. Hopefully he will find peace now.

I was shocked at how young he was. I guess it just seems like he's been around a long time b/c he started so young. He definitely created a very memorable TV character. Whether you were a fan of the show or not, everyone knows the "What you talkin' 'bout Willis?" line.

I always felt bad for him despite his silly behavior. I suppose I'd be in a bad mood often if I was made fun of for health issues I couldn't control.

Yeah, he got the shaft in terms of a lot of things in life. Sad.

I do remember one time about ten years ago I was at JPL for their yearly open house and I saw him there. A family asked if they could take their picture with him and he was very courteous and polite about it.

Yeah. I mean, its easy to poke fun at him and his often times exponentially silly behavior over the past ten to fifteen years but most of us would likely act the same way if no one took us seriously and we had a birth defect that was plainly visible and plainly mocked for 40 years...

I thought the saddest part of his life was his parents ripped off his trust fund.
He was all setup for life after the TV series....
He has had to scrape along as an adult.

That's so sad. I heard an interview with him on the radio not that long ago, he was promoting something that I can't recall.

I had forgot about his parents screwing him over. Nice. Hopefully what goes around comes around for them...

RIP Gary.

He was a spokesman for a check cashing place for several years.

He was on the Celeb reality house show on VH1 a few years ago.

I recall a recent interview where he was treated like garbage and asked inappropriate questions by people who were practically loud-mouthed roosters. Rodney Dangerfield's persona got more respect than he did.

Everything I saw him do in public made him look like a douche bag. He also was accused of beating women on a few occasions.

Those must have been some tiny women.

I believe that was on The Insider (HD) about 4 months ago. When they put him on "trial", he became incensed and stormed out. But not before flippin'-the-bird to everyone and telling them to "frak-off". He was out of control and I felt sorry for him.

I don't know if he's referring to that behemoth of a violent, brutish woman who basically assaulted him after supposedly first coming up to him to ask for an autograph (I don't know if he initially refused her, or if she just came at him too aggresive right off).

Nobody really blamed him for that one at least. There may have been other instances, as he was known to be volatile otherwise, but that one was thought to be pretty justified.

^I think it's safe to say GC had anger issues.
Frankly, I think I would have too.

I don't know if he was still on prednisone for his last transplant (usually transplantees aren't on it for that long, as long as the organ's basically doing alright with the standard immunosuppressants), but that stuff can wreak all kinds of havoc on your system (couldn't even begin to list them here) and demeanor. Can even leave you with permanent damage after you've stopped taking it.

Yes, I've had it prescribed, and it is great stuff in short-term measured dosages. It may have been the drugs combined with what Gary said. He wanted to be treated with a little dignity (no pun intended).
