I've heard a lot of negative talk about Onkyo as a speaker manufacturer, and not just from this forum, "don't go with Onkyo speakers, they make good receivers but they don't know anything about speakers".
I have the Onkyo SKS-HT870's, 6 ohm speakers, input impedance is 20 k-ohm. Fronts and center are dual drive 2 way while the 4 satellites are full range. Max power is 130 watt. The sub that comes with this set is Bass reflex, powered 290 watt 10" cone. I have this sub paired with an Energy 8" 200 watt sub.
While these specs might not seem overly impressive, the dual subs can be brought up to rattle anything off it's hinges if it's not bolted down. The speakers themselves have provided a clear dialogue and produced sounds so real, I have to pause the movie to make sure I don't have an uninvited guest in my house.
This speaker system is driven by an Onkyo TX-NR807 and including the second sub, was purchase for under $400. brand new.

Don't have a lot to spend on a decent set of speakers for your HT? Take a look at these.
