Zone 2 playback from network source - Windows 7 "Play To"

Hello, i am considering an upgrade for my old Denon AVR1906 and one of the features of the next reciever will be multi zone capability. Some netowrk receivers are Windows 7 compatible featuring "Play To" function. (i am considering Onkyo 608) and i am wondering if the following scenario is possible: using the "Play to" function on my windows 7 laptop i push the audio stream to the reciever wich should be able to play the music on the second zone.
I know that zone 2 or 3 are limited to analog audio but is the network stream considered digital or analog?

Tks for any input.

I am also interested in finding this out as an option but I believe you have to go up to an Onkyo 708 in order to get the "play to" functionality. Since it hasn't actually been released and Onkyo hasn't put out a manual for the 708 all we can do is wait.

I have wanted to play and control the music out on my porch for quite some time and was going to either build a HTPC with XBMC/Boxee or buy the boxee box to get it working. the "play to" function on the network looks to be a great way to accomplish this as well.

For an AVR to play a different digital stream in Zone II or III simultaneously when there is a digital source playing in Zone I an additional DAC (digital-to-analog converter) is required.. This is true as long as the Zone II stream is PCM, if the stream is encoded in another format such as DD, AAC then and additional DSP audio processor is required for the audio decoding.

Just my $0.00..

Yes you are right. 608 does not have the netork capabilities so 708 will be the way to go.

You could use a speaker selector box connected to the L/R speaker terminals to a remote speaker set. That's easiest. I would get one with impedance matching.
