ATI Resolution on TV Question

Hi there,

My laptop has an ATI Radeon Mobility X300, which I previously used with a monitor (1920x1080). I am about to buy a TV - the models I'm looking are 1366x768.

I plan to drive the TV from my laptop through the VGA input.

In display properties, under the adapter information, I clicked "LIST ALL MODES", and the closest I can find is 1360x1280 (will cut off the bottom), or 1280 x 768 (black border).

Is this just a driver thing, or is the card incapable of running at something close... I haven't bought the TV yet, but I haven't a way to test.

1360 x 768 is the correct setting for most 720p TV's. Some Plasmas use 1024 x 768.

It's a driver thing most likely. A video card/chip should be able to support a multitude of resolution settings. You do want to drive any display with its native panel resolution for the sharpest image - unless the X300 is a very limited chipset my thoughts would be you can, but read this article about the mobility series.
