Frequently Asked Questions (please read before posting)

1. What is the difference between the 1020 and the 1120?
The 1120 is more powerful (draws 440 watts compared to 250 watts).
The 1120 has pre-outs for using a separate amplifier.
The 1120 is taller and longer ( 16.56" W x 6.82" H x 17.06" D) and heavier at nearly 29 lbs.
The 1120 has superior video processing with the Marvel Qdeo chip with more Noise Reduction features (see Question 4).
The 1120 has binding posts for all speaker terminals while the 1020 uses crimp for Height/Wide/Speaker B
The 1120 supports Audio Return Channel (with HDMI Control enabled).

2. What is the difference between the 1120 and the VSX-32?
Elite 32 has an amber display and glossy fascia.
Elite 32 has twelve volt triggers for a separate amp.
Elite 32 has a two year warranty

3. How does this receiver compare to its peers like the Denon 2311 and the Onkyo 708?

4. How many speakers can I run at the same time?
7 (and a sub). There are 9 speaker connectors, but only 7 can be used at any one time. You must choose between back surrounds and front/wide.


How good is the video processing of the Marvell chip?
Does this receiver support standby HDMI passthrough?
How do I use this receiver with a separate amplifier?
How does the internet streaming feature work? Does it have Pandora?
Are there any firmware updates and how do I update the receiver?
Can I power 4ohm speakers with this receiver?

I'll was hoping to buy a VSX-1120-K or a VSX-32, whichever one makes it to market first. Most likely they'll ship the same day. The delays are prompting me to look elsewhere. Other capable manufacturer's well-equipped 3D AVRs are starting to hit the streets. Feature sets are nice. But not as compelling as an actual product.

I find it discouraging that this, the pioneer 1120, probably the best receiver NOT on the market (price wise for "future proof" capabilities), has yet to be released. I have been frothing over the specs for some time now and need something to push my lovely Monitor Audio RS6s!

Does anyone have a clue as to when the 1120 will be released? And where do these rumors stem concerning possible delays?

Pioneer still promises (via their 1120 web page) that the 1120 will ship in June

They've still got a coupla days to come through on that. I'm guessing that when they don't, they'll update their page from "June" to "August" to buy themselves 60 extra days.

Well I've got my pre-order in on amazon, but if it doesn't ship by the end of the month as their website says I'll have to cancel and get something else. My old AVR died and I've been without for several weeks already. Can only wait so long...

Just got an alert from Pioneer promising that the 1120-K is available for pre-order and will be shipping very soon.

The delay may have involved them raising the price $50. Which means it's $1 cheaper than the VSX-32 Elite. But the Elite hasn't graduated to Pre-order status yet. No doubt Elite engineers are busy figuring out how to raise the price of the 32 by $100.

Not sure if that was directed at my question, but if it was, it didn't answer it. The 1120 has an Ethernet port for streaming music from Internet radio. I read on some pioneer release notes for one of their other receivers (can't recall which one) that it also supports streaming music and pictures from a "networked personal computer" but it wasn't clear if that feature was unique to that receiver or broadly supported on all the Ethernet equipped new receivers....

Have you posed the question to owners of the VSX-1020-K? That model has Ethernet connectivity and has been in the wild for over a month. I doubt the functionality of that feature would differ between the 1020 and the 1120.

All I'm really looking for is a reciever with the new formats (DSX and PLIIz?) that will allow both to operate at the same time. You know, 11.1 speakers playing at the same time, and not having to choose between FW or FH or SB. I know one of the Denon's did that by using a preamp output and outsmarting the "amp assign" feature, but it was like $2 or $3k. Anyhow, what I'm looking for is probably irrelavent, I just wanted the OPTION to do so if the need arose.

I finally got a shipping notice from Art of Sale for the 1120! I had considered cancelling the order as they charged it the moment I ordered, but didn't ship for 2 weeks. Glad I held out, this combined with my Emotiva XPA 5, I'll have the ultimate sound system(so far as I'm concerned)!

I recently ordered the Panasonic DMP-BD65 bluray player and I thinking of buying the 1120 to replace my Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver. I have few questions on this receiver.
1. In order to take advantage of the Marvell video processor, do I have set the Panasonic DMP-BD65 to 1080i and have the 1120 to scale it to 1080p or do I have to get a blu-ray player with a source direct mode (Oppo BDP-80, or Sony BDP-X70 (has original resolution))?
2. Can I use the 1120's video processor with my Xbox 360 to play games?
3. What audio dacs does it have?
