Pioneer VSX-1120 TXH HDMI V1.4 Receiver Owners' Thread - Page 42

For the 480i/p channels, I compared letting the TWC box and the 1120 do the upconversion. The 1120's upconversion was much better. The only problem was the lag when changing channels.

As it turns out, I've now found enough HD channels on TWC that I don't think this will be a big problem either way. Right now, I've got the TWC box to output at 720p or 1080i and then let the 1120 upscale if it receives 720p. I'll see how the lag is with that. If it still bothers me, I'll likely go the route you suggest, where I set the box to output 1080i. Now that I've found the comedy central channel, 99% of my viewing is HD.

We watch a lot of both SD and HD channels. If I let my DVR (or DirecTV receiver) select the correct output resolution I get a lot of channel switching lag and sometimes it doesn't even, correctly, go to a 1080i output on the HDTV channels (both of my HDTVs are 1920 x 1080 native sets).

Yes Jr, they are discrete inputs on the remote. Except... now that I think about it, the 6 HDMI inputs are not seperate, they share one button which toggles through them. But I use a harmony and it works fine. The only thing I'm fighting right now is the HDMI control feature, it likes to do it's own thing when I hit "watch TV" activity. The harmony will make the initial change but then HDMI will make another change and make a wrong switch. I've heard others have made it work, I just haven't gotten back into the harmony software to work on the delays and such.
But if you don't use HDMI control, you won't have a problem one. Hope this helps.

Searched the thread about OSD and found that some people get OSD overlay for volume and sources....

I saw Volume come up once on my Display, showed up as red blocks if I am not mistaken, instead of the old green ones that used to show up on CRTs... who knows, I'm such a noob that perhaps I was using the wrong remote programming and it was actually the TV... LOL

Thanks, incubus0,
I don't own a smartphone, but I figured that price was the best I was going to find before BF.
I went ahead and bought it.
Then I ordered a little bluetooth dongle usb adapter. Maybe I can communicate with my laptop between the two of them?

Ok just hooked up my new unit. Liking it over my Sony DNR-1000
only question is I have my pc hooked up to the hdmi 2 port for video and sound for optical 1. but in the menu I don't see a way to assign the audio to the optical port like I could on my sony unit.
Any one now how I can do this.

You Might want to add a delay or change the sequence of commands on you Harmony. An example would be when you turn on the system the last command it should be sending is to switch to PS3 input on the receiver lat. I used to have similar problem with my Denon when turning it on and directly to PS3 so I ended up adding another command in the sequence. Surprisingly I didn't encounter the same issue with th 1120 on my harmony 880.

Welcome to the forums Frostymugkiller. Good to hear the 1120 is working out for you. Personally I find more to like about it most every day. To me it is a great receiver, and for the price... very hard to beat.

Here's to many return visits with us.

Question du jour: Does turning on the 1120 sometimes take a couple of attempts?

I've noticed that if I press the power button on the front panel, sometimes it takes two attempts to turn it on. Similarly, if I use my remote, it often takes a couple of tries. Doesn't matter if I'm using the IR remote that came with it or my Harmony 900 RF remote (which transmits to a blaster that then sends out IR).

Anyone else experience this?

Can someone please point me towards a VS-32 Owners Thread? I am comparing the two receivers and found the comparison thread and the 1120 thread but not a VS-32 thread.

Also, all this talk about a Harmony remote makes me want to get one. Any recomendations?

I have mine on a switched outlet of a power conditioner - seems I have a wait a few seconds before pressing the power button on the receiver - not sure if that's because of the receiver or the power conditioner though. Doesn't bother me, and after I program the remote, shouldn't be an issue (could add timing if needed).

I have somewhat experienced what you're describing. But for me it was a couple times I tried to enter the "startup" menu by holding the enter button when you press the power button (on-board). In fact one time I gave up because it just wouldn't power on with the enter button down.

But that was the only time I have had that happen whether using the remote or the on-board button itself.

Had the same issue with a Harmony 880, but I added a second 'change the input' command, works great now, no issues. It would probably work just as well with a short delay.

Well somehow it works now. After changing settings for a while I changed the network settings from DHCP ON to OFF then changed it back to ON then IControl App started to work again.

Was planning on pairing the 1120 with my new Emo UPA-5 and was wondering if when attached to an external amp, you can turn off the 1120's internal amp.

Thanks in advance

Last night, I isolated the problem here -- I think. I'm not sure if what I'm seeing when powering on via remote is connected to what I'm seeing when powering on by pressing the power button on the front of the receiver. However, I'm pretty sure I've fixed the remote control issue.

In playing with it last night, I realized that when I power on via remote, the 1120 turns on, stays on briefly, and then turns back off. If I then hit "help" on my Harmony 900, it usually turns on the 1120 and it stays on.

Googling produced a couple of links to the Harmony forum, where the harmony tech suggested turning off Kuro-Link in Pioneer receivers. There's something about it that can interfere with the Harmony commands. In the 1120, this is related to HDMI Control, which is under "Other Setup". Turning this off appears to have fixed the problem. When I power on via remote, the 1120 turns on and stays on now.

No doubt I will later find that I want HDMI Control ON for some reason and will have to make a choice. But for now, this works for me.

After enjoying a few weeks of all-around excellent performance, my 1120's subwoofer pre out stopped working. I have tried pretty much everything, even resetting the unit to factory defaults and still no go. What gives???

At first I thought it was the sub, but it works on my old Onkyo (same cable). Everything in the settings is correct.

HELP!!!

Bill

Since you will have need for neither audio return channel nor ethernet over HDMI with your projector, there is no reason to be concerned. link Read specifically, "what hasn't changed."

I read somewhere on here that someone had a "line" on their LG screen with this model.

I will have to hunt it down, but I don't see that I ever saw a fix or if it was resolved.

I don't want to buy the 1120 if it won't work with LG 60PK550 Plasma.

Anyone have any insights? Or that can verify that it DOES work great with this Plasma?

thanks!!
