I finally got this AVR and have it all hooked up and went through the MCACC set up. I can't get any sound out of my subs (they were working yesterday with all the same wires hooked up to my Onkyo, and they are working when hooking up the Onkyo). When it goes through the MCACC system, the subs are not found. If I go into the manual and set all the speakers to small, the sub says "yes" but it is in dark grey (I can't change it, it just skips over the sub option). I made sure the sub level was at 0db. I don't know what else to do. Is there something I am overlooking? I have read the manual and troubleshooting guide many times, but am still stumped. Any suggestions out there? Everything else works great. Maybe something is wrong with the sub jack?

ensure that you are plugged into the subwoofer pre-out... a mistake that many have made (including me) has been to plug the cable into the multi-channel input port for the "sub"...

Yup plugged into the sub "pre-out" (the one with the white square).

you still need to run an ethernet cable from the switch to each individual device, i.e. receiver, tv, game console, etc. I think the OP was asking if that was still necessary given the new hdmi 1.14 with ethernet integrated in the 1.14 cables.

Sounds like the answer is yes, because not many devices can really take advantage of and utilize the ethernet bit of hdmi 1.14?

yup, as in "none"... it's 1.4, fwiw...

ethernet over hdmi is a solution in search of a problem...

ok, that's a good start...

when you run mcacc do you get test tones from the sub? or nothing at all?

Nothing at all. When the results get shown on the GUI, next to the sub there is "no".

Perhaps you could paste some if the non-working URLs in this thread and I could give them a try. That would at least rule out your box. I've had good luck finding a lot of stations, but I found a lot that wouldn't work, too.

not so good...

try doing a reset of the unit...

if that doesn't help, i'm afraid you need to return it...

True you still have to hook up multiple ethernet cables but you only have to run 1 long one, if you put the switch in your component stand/rack you only need a few short cables to each device and one long one from the switch to your router, or none at all if you get a wireless bridge/access point.

Try going to Setup and set all your speakers to small & subwoofer yes, then go back to Auto MCACC (not Full Auto) and select Keep Speaker Settings and run it again.

Need Help with Bass Management
Hi Folks I am having trouble fine tuning Bass on the 1120. I used to be a Denon Owner and it had a 120 HZ crossover which complimented my KEF 3005 system ideally. Since that crossover is not available on the 1120 I am not getting the desired cross over my Sub is finicky and had no crossover settings on it whatsoever. Any suggestions are welcomed as I am more of videophile and have just started to play on the audio side of things in the last 2-3 years.

How would I reset the unit? I got off the phone with Pioneer and they told me that the receiver is broken. They didn't mention to me about trying to reset it.

Thanks for all your help.
grpape -- BTW, does your sub have an "Auto-On" feature? If it does, de-activate (turn the sub to On) that feature before running your MCACC, or any speaker setup operations. With the "Auto-On", the 1120 is not seeing the sub, since it is actually Off until loud sounds are played through it.

After you de-activate the "Auto-On" and go to the "custom" speaker setup, is the "SW" setting of "Yes" still grayed out? If it is, then your 1120 really is "broken".

you are welcome... sorry it ended up being a "return the unit" solution... doa units are pretty rare, but that doesn't make you feel any better when YOU get the doa one...

@claus... yea, good catch there... that's worth checking...

Dave go to Shoutcast. c o m and go to a list of their stations. When you find a station you like, right click on that station in the list and "copy target" or "copy target link" or whatever it is like that. Then paste that into the 2nd line of the net radio preset and throw a name on the top line and you should have a working station. All those stations will end in a number.. ex 34732 or so, if it don't have a number then it probably isn't right still.

There are plenty of stations on there, and I use my internet radio a LOT, and love having it.

The 1120 has been more than good to me.. it's a great AVR, at even more than 500.

Speaking of it being discontinued, wonder if they realized it was under priced and decided to cut it there. Now they will replace it as watered down for same price or keep all the bells and whistles and charge more..?

and make sure the sub is turned up around 50% volume, and not turned down. If it don't make a noise then it won't think it's there.

I bet it was cannibalizing Elite sales and the hifi shop boys threatened to drop the lines.

I've had a Yammy for 10 years but now I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on this AVR. I've read and read and read and now I've read so much that I'm confusing myself. So, I have a question that I'm sure I've already read the answer to, but now I don't remember...

I have a computer that is wireless in one of my rooms. My router is in another room with a wired computer. If I purchase the 1120, it will be in a different room from both computers where there is no ethernet. Can the 1120 wirelessly communicate with my wireless PC for file sharing from my media center (both audio and video)?

And I apologize...I know this has been covered but my brain is just mashed right now from reading so much on so many different receivers.

Thanks for all the help guys. I tried everything possible. I did have the subs on "on" and still no recognition from the MCACC set up. I turned the gain up all the way, and still no recognition. I'm pretty sure it's doa.

When I play something in Dolby or other settings the screen (on the AVR face) has all the speakers and the sub with the lines (shows that there is a LFE being recognized by the AVR). All the other speakers are playing but nothing from the sub.

I'm gonna send it back to Amazon and do some more research and decide whether or not to stick with Pio or go Yammy. I probably will just get another 1120 unless I move up to the next level.

Thanks,
Derrick

No you will need a wireless bridge, also the 1120 can not play audio or video over the network accept for internet radio.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think the more I read, the dumber I get. I thought I had this all figured out, but I guess not. So, with the 1120, I can stream internet radio (being all the different stations and pandora)...correct?? But, that is all. I cannot access my media files on my computer wirelessly.

Does anything change if I did have an ethernet cable to plug directly into the 1120?

I just upgraded my 5 year pioneer 1015 receiver to the new 1120 receiver after upgrading my plasma tv to a led tv. The question that I have is whether or not most people here connect their ps3 (use as a bd player) to the bd hdmi port or one of the 1-4 hdmi ports. Also is there something that makes the bd hdmi input different from the numbered ones? Thanks.

Nope can't do pandora either, wish you could but most bd player do any way.

Nothing will change if you run a wire either.

If you want to access your own files you need to get a reciever with DLNA or a media box like the Western Digital TV Live Plus, I think it's less the $100 and has a ton of features.

I recently got the 1120 myself and I connected my PS3 to the HDMI 1 port. I do have a standalone BD player (using the BD HDMI port), but I did play Transformers via the PS3 to test it out and it looks & sounds awesome via the 1120. I haven't played a game on the PS3 to test if there is a lag with video going thru the 1120 first. I'm still playing with this new receiver, but so far I'm in love with this unit.

I know!!!
I tried using that url with itunes and for some reason connects me to a French radio station which is not bad but it's on 64kbps

just as a heads up to all those using internet radio...

make sure you at least experiment with the "sound retriever" option on the avr... i have found that with low bit rate, dynamically compressed sources, that it helps a lot....

Have had my receiver now for a couple of weeks and after working through the handshake issue (simply set the cable box to send at 1080i) its is working just fine. Yesterday I tried to work the HDMI Connect feature...
My Samsung TV and BD player have anytime which is their version. I set the TV Anytime on and connected to the Receiver and the BD player... then the picture went completely south on me. It was there but a very poor picture. Also when connect was activated, the TV was forcing my receiver to turn to the TV input instead of the DVR input (renamed HDMI 1 to DVR).
After shutting connect off the picture went back to normal.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Did you look at the Internet radio thread I mentioned? All of the links found in the "1020 Internet radio" thread work perfectly...
