If I press "Help" on the remote, it works, and if the unit's already on and I start another activity everything works just fine. It's the initial start-up that's giving me a major headache. Any ideas?

Turn off 'HDMI Control' on the receiver.

EDIT: ccotenj beats me again! LOL...

I'm having problems with my vsx-1120 introducing audio lag. I have a SD directv dvr hooked up to my receiver using composite cables. From the receiver to the SD tv I am using component cables. I also have a BR player hooked up with HDMI for audio and component for video. This makes it possible for me to switch between sources using the receiver. I also have a second set of composite cables running (from dvr) to a different input on the tv so I can watch sometimes without using the receiver. I noticed right away an audio lag when watching and listnening through the reciever. If I switch the tv input to the direct feed from the dvr and listen to both sets of audio I only detect a slight echo of sound when using Source Direct but if I switch on Pro-logic which is what I use for watching tv I hear a sizeable delay in sound. The only solution I have found to minimize this problem is to turn off video conversion (which kills the monitor out) and watch the video that's coming direct from the dvr to the tv and the audio from the reciever. As soon as the video conversion is turned off the audio lag is almost gone. I did find one mention of this problem in a review of the vsx-819 at hometheatergears.com. In their review they said " This unit really does impress when you consider the price. It should have no problems with any of the high definition outputs, although some of the early reviews suggest that there are some issues when it comes to Dolby decoding with some tests showing an audio delay. However, this hasn't been a consistent fault, and may be corrected with some set-up tweaking." Any thoughts on this problem? I guess once I upgrade to a HD tv this problem should resolved itself? Thanks.

Look on the manual, there is a feature to help you sync the video with he audio in case there is any lag.

I have this set up with 4a2. speaker setting 2 fronts Polk VM30 , 1 Polk VM20 center, 2 TSI200 surrounds and a PS100 SW. I thought this is considered a 5.1 setup how come the receiver does not read it as 5.1? Also what X.over should this setup be set on any help would be great.

Our cable box feeds into the Pioneer 1120 via HDMI. The receiver is connected to the Samsung C7000 via HDMI. Everything works fine but is there a setting so that the volume between channels remains relatively equal? We frequently have to adjust the volume between channels. We have Cox cable and there is not a setting through the cable box to do, so I wondered if there was a setting in the Pioneer that I am missing. Thanks for your help. We're amateurs.
Yes it is called ALC, the button directly below the Home Menu button, labeled HDD on the button. It will cycle through different modes, ALC will keep the volume relatively even.

Just wanted to post in here how pleased I am with the purchase of this receiver. WOW did it wake up my definitive speakers compared to my 10+ year old Yammaha receiver!

I notified Pioneer of the problem with passing ESPN 3D broadcasts in 720p SBS. Here is my correspondence. I would feel more confident if the text in boldface came from DirecTV rather than Pioneer.

Sent February 8, 2011 at 11:15 PST

DirecTV broadcasts some 3D shows in 720p Side-by-Side format which is an optional 3D format for broadcasters. My VSX-32 apparently does not support this format. The result is I am unable to play these shows on my Samsung PN63C8000 TV. My understanding is that this format is optional for broadcasters but mandatory for receivers and TVs. Will Pioneer upgrade the firmware to correct this?

Received Wed 2/9/2011 2:13 PM PST

Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc. The receiver fully supports the 3D signals. The signal Direct TV is transmitting is not compliant to the HDMI Organization specifications. We are told they will have this resolved in the first quarter. Please contact Direct TV for full details.

Thank You,

Yes, just run the auto MCACC and leave the speakers set to LARGE. When your sub arrives, plug it in and do the "subwoofer crawl" to determine proper placement. After that, re-run auto-MCACC and then go back in to Manual SP Setup to set all the speakers to SMALL.

Large: let's them handle the bass frequencies
Small: send all the low freq's to the SUB

All true! Just to be a little more specific: 'Large' completely negates the crossover for that speaker, so the speaker produces full range -- while 'Small' sends the freqs below the crossover point to the sub, and the speaker then handles only the freqs above the crossover setting.

With a decent sub, 'Small' is the better setting for the speakers so that they don't interfere with bass response in the room. It essentially let's a sub do it's job.

I'm running a 3.1 setup right now, and MCACC has found both satellites, my center and the sub. MCACC calibrated it just fine and didn't throw any errors. Depending on the source, the sub will activate, but when I'm using the cdr or analog inputs, the sub doesn't produce tone.

It doesn't matter if the satt/center are set to large or small. The sub definitely works and the stereo has definitely utilized it before.

Energy 8.2 SW
Energy XL150 Satts
Energy XL-C100 Center

Is there something I can toggle to make the stereo always output LFE/Bass to the sub? Thanks

Edit: apparently the input on the back of the sub is flakey > Wiggling the cable while playing a bass heavy track lit it up. Frustrating

I think while you're listening on that input in stereo mode you can press "Receiver"> "Audio Parameters" then use the up & down arrows to toggle til you find the "LFE" option which you can turn on or off.

LOL! yea, i have a d&m product now (marantz av7005)... d&m manuals certainly are a bit more difficult to figure out, that's for sure... they decided to make the av7005 one even more challenging, as they essentially copied over the manual for the sr7005, and "forgot" to take out a few things that don't exist on the av7005... like, oh, amplifiers, for one...

imo/ime, the "key" to understanding the manual (regardless of cem), is "reading" the whole thing... there many options that interact with one another (some in very mysterious ways), and without at least a "loose grasp" on the functionality of the entire unit, it's pretty easy to be deceived...

second "key"... never assume the unit works the way YOU want it to...

want to REALLY challenge yourself/be amused? buy a "direct from china" product... the "manual" for my yaqin ms-20l integrated tube amp has several "giggle moments" in it... as well as a couple things that left me scratching my head in complete confusion for awhile...

Have you tried another cable? Is the sub still under warranty?

thanks, i try... although i do not have an 1120, i've had enough pioneer products to "know how they work"...

and even though i'm currently "pioneer-less" (other than the kuro), i remain a pioneer fanboy (although they are really trying my patience lately)...

i, for one, am glad you are here... we were in dire need of another enthusiastic pioneer fanboy who has the "secret decoder ring", and you are fulfilling that need... there's not many of us left, and sadly, some of the ones that are left were driven off by some posters in the sc-37 thread...

yea, that's what i would do... make sure that the cable isn't flaky first...

cables generally don't fail "all on their own", but i've had more than one suffer "premature death by cat"...

What stereo settings would you guys recommended for HDIM connected HD Samsung Cable box with a 5.1 audio setup. I tried the auto surround and everything is coming out of the LR speakers and nothing from the centers.
