I am just asking to determine how I should archive BD titles to my media server. In archiving, I would want to grab the main movie only, the lossless audio and a core audio track, forced and English subtitles, and chapters.

As of now, for best compatibility, I am headed into ripping the BD titles as MKVs unless BD folder structure is commonly supported.

Yes the A1080 will play Blu-Ray from folder structure. It will also play from ISO. Personally I would rip to ISO for the simplicity of one file per movie.

Hi All,

This is Jack from Micca Store. I am usually on here supporting the discussion of our EP500 1073 based player. Depending on interest level on this A1080 player from US buyers, we can help organize a group-buy.

Let me know through PM if you are interested - I don't want to break any rules that might exist about this sort of thing. There needs to be about 50 commitments for something like this to be worthwhile, otherwise the expenses are hard to control.

See mpcclub dot com/forum/showthread.php?t=24708

We urge resellers to be extremely cautious dealing with brands like eGreat (especially A1080 is under scrutiny) and not to help them spread copied products at risk of consumers and send a clear signal, Europe is not Asia. Any resellers holding eGreat products loaded with HDI firmware can count on problems as not all security measures are circumvented and end users can easily end up with none functioning players or unsupported ones...

HDI: "Obviously selling such products with stolen software may cause both legal issues and also substantial problems for end-users / resellers (as we have some protection mechanisms not broken by the pointed Chinese pirates). Obviously, having such a problem end-users would blame the reseller... We can guarantee that soon these pirates will be unable to break our software protection any longer and of course it will mean absence of any software upgrades for such products in the future using our firmwares."

We call upon all respectable news sites "doing it for the customer" to issue an alert and force eGreat to rethink it's strategy to become a player on the EU market only by their own efforts and not on the back of others or at reasonable risk of consumers...

Did these players steal the firmware from HDI? I have read this on other forums and was wondering what is going on.

Unfortunately, yes.
Unlike with other players one can cross flash ( and passes on as open source enhancements) we have no issues with ( users are doing the flash and accept the risk), it seems eGreat goes a step further and sells A1080 with HDI firmware already loaded which obviously may end badly for resellers and custmers... There is a risk of no updates, resellers being uninformed and so on, consumers being unaware and then some...

For instance, players may be ceased by customs even if paid by the users / resellers with no chance of refund and fines always applied to the one importing the goods.

Anyway, don't want to be in to deep on the subject... Resellers, HDI and eGreat should resolve the situation and users are to be aware of the potential risk...

I really wanted an EGreat A1080 in the US and was all ready to participate in the group buy from Jack@Micca. I even thought that Jack@Micca might be Hi-Jack, but just using a different pseudo for his business.

I was just telling my wife the other day how the EGreat A1080 is almost perfect and I still couldn't believe it is from a Chinese company. I told her either they hired some great non-Chinese engineers or something fishy was going on, but since IBOUM was selling it, it must be legit.

Oh well, look like the Dune Base 3.0 is now at the top of my list, again!

We are going to suspend the group-buy until this situation becomes clearer.

We'll investigate this further, but if the A1080 ships with firmware using non-GPL proprietary components without proper licensing, we won't sell it.

Hi solomnic, have you already tested subtitle capabilities with any kind of extension? in particolar, how does it go with forced subtitle of Blu Ray ISO?
Because I read that this player play Blu-Ray ISO with full menu as if you were using a Blu-Ray player, but sometime forced subtitle aren't selectable from BD menĂ¹ (they are forced for non english parts...) end many players doesn't read this sub...
Could you test this player with a blu ray ISO film like Avatar or others films that have forced sub too?
And If u can, colud you test it with multi cut Blu ray ISO... like hancock or wolfman that have unrated cut and cinema cut in the same diks(image) because many Players that reads only the biggest m2ts file in the ISO doesn't read this BD.

thank you
