hello,

my dad bought the new 82 inch Mitsubishi 3d tv with the intent of watching the world cup in 3D, but he knows nothing about it. He put me in charge of everything else and i honestly dont know anything either. The espn 3d channel is up and the dierctv box is connected via hdmi. I have one question.

1. To be able to watch the first game of the world cup (june 11) in 3D, what do i need in terms of glasses and emitter etc. ??

What is the model number? It makes a difference in the answer.

For your 3DTV:

1) To watch 3D from DirecTV, you'll need the Mitsubishi 3DC-1000, which is an adapter that will convert the 3D side-by-side format from DirecTV to the 3D checkerboard format used by your 3DTV.

2) You'll need active stereo glasses, and depending on what kind of glasses you get, you may also need an emitter. If the glasses you get are 'DLP Link' compatible, you will not need an emitter as your 3DTV is a DLP set. If the glasses are not DLP Link, you'll need an IR emitter. Most glasses are used with a specific emitter, but there are at least two model of glasses that are universal, and will work with any IR emitter.

3) All the above assumes you have one of the correct DirecTV HD receivers (not H20 or HR20), and are using a compatible HDMI (1.3) cable to connect the receiver and 3DRV.

4) Mitsubishi will soon be offering a '3D Starter Pack', which will include the adapter, an emitter, 2 pairs of glasses, an HDMI cable, and Disney demo disk, for around $399. The adapter alone will be about $99.

The problem for you is, the Starter Kit won't be available until July 8th, and the adapter alone won't be available until June 18th; neither one in time for the start of the World Cup.
