Infamous 2 - Page 2

I didn't mind Cole's appearance in Infamous, other than his posture. Zeke on the other hand...

edit: I thought Infamous 1 was a good game. I just hope the good/bad decisions are more interesting than the first game, which was like, do I give these puppies some food or kick them in the face...

Yeah, what made the morality system so cool in the first game wasn't the things that made you evil or the effect it had on the story. It was the different powers you got.

I just hope I don't have to blast any more black tar pumps off of buildings again.

Well sorta. This time around you have to stop the tar from consuming to entire gulf outside the city.

i just hope this next game isn't as repetitive, i liked the 1st one and will buy this on day 1, but i never even finished the 1st one because i was sick of doing the same type mission for like the 5th time...

The secondary mission (Good or Evil, 15 total if I remember? ) were pretty repetitive yeah. Don't have a complaint about the main story.

I hope they add more interaction with the environment, like being able to pick stuff up and do special abilities with them (frozen human torpedo anyone?)

First time through was fine, but playing through the second time (evil playthrough) definitely got a bit tedious. Toss in finding all the shards, and, well, yeah. It was a pretty easy platinum, but not the most interesting one.

The developer is shooting for visuals that come close to Uncharted 2's graphic goodness despite being an open world game. They think they can be in the ballpark by the time it ships:

Quote:

Uncharted 2's visuals were stunning - so stunning, in fact, that you'd think it would be impossible for a developer to create an open world game that matched Naughty Dog's effort.

But that's exactly what fellow PS3-exclusive developer Sucker Punch is aiming for with inFamous 2.

Indeed the game, which sees super-powered Cole McGrath parkour his way around the fictional city of New Marais, is being influenced by Naughty Dog's spiffing blockbuster.

"We're getting a lot closer to it - we certainly are - and we've got a ways to go," Sucker Punch development director Chris Zimmerman told VideoGamer.com at E310 last week.

"Clearly they are the inspiration for us. And not just in terms of the visuals, but all the things they did that made that game so great. We're working hard to get as close as we can to that goal, and I think we're going to get pretty close. People will look at it and I think that they'll say, look, you know this is in the same ball park."

We got a chance to go hands-on with inFamous 2 during a behind-closed doors presentation at the show, and we can confirm that it indeed does look great for an open world game - and a marked improvement on the two million-selling original.

Zimmerman puts the jump in quality of presentation down to Sucker Punch being a PS3-exclusive developer.

"The thing that we've got going for us, like the Uncharted guys, we're Sony only. All we do is games for the PS3, which means that the engine that we're building can be completely tuned and targeted at the PS3 and at the things the PS3 does well.

"We can commit to doing all our systems in a very PS3 specific way. We can write SPU code for everything. As a result, we're able to do more. We're able to take more advantage of the hardware, because it's the only system we have to worry about. Just like Uncharted, we're able to do things that we would never be able to do if we were doing a cross-platform game.

"For instance, we moved most of our lighting on the SPUs for this game. So, casting light on the objects was all dynamic for us - completely dynamically lit. We did it on the graphics card, which was the traditional place to do it before. But we could move it to the SPUs, and so we did. And as a result we're able to do more stuff with the graphics chip. We can put more triangles on screen. We can have more detail. We can have more characters. We can have more everything. We were able to do that only because we knew we were going to be doing a PS3 game, and that's all we were going to be worrying about."

Zimmerman isn't the only one at Sucker Punch who reckons the PS3 is great. Co-founder Brian Fleming described the console's SPUs as "monsters" in an interview with VideoGamer.com from E310.

Fingers crossed inFamous 2 ends up looking the business. The game's out next year.

Repetitive or not I really enjoyed the first one.

When developers sound this pumped for the game their working on you get the feeling it's going to be good. I read the other interview on VideoGamer.com- he was trying to speak to his core audience with all those "they're monsters!" comments- but sounded genuine in his excitement for the next game. Confidence is high that I2 will be solid.

this is not a knock on sucker punch, but they have a long way to go to match UC2 graphics (so does everyone else), but infamous 1 wasn't on the same level as UC1 (graphically)

After proving themselves with the first game, they may be receiving more financial and technical support from Sony. Hard to believe it would be enough to put them on par with UC2, but who knows?
I don't see why not. Unless Cole starts moving at 150mph.

Proper LOD coding and real time streaming should work. But that comes down to skill, time and knowledge.

Regardless of what the final tech looks like in action, I'm looking forward to this. Open-world games aren't fun because they look good. The first one looked like ass and the AI was awful, but it was still fun as hell. Honestly, I'd rather they devoted time and resources into fleshing out game features rather than working toward "Uncharted-caliber" graphics tech.

The Game Informer article said they put a lot of emphasis on his movement abilities.

One of the many great things the first Infamous did was present an open world that was a blast to get around in, despite its lack of vehicles. Gliding through the air and zipping across power lines at inhuman speeds was a blast, making exploration something to look forward to instead of a chore. Infamous 2 takes that even further by allowing Cole to zip alongside buildings both horizontally and vertically. Let's say a highrise apartment building has a metal pipe that runs down its entire side. You can position yourself at the bottom and use an induction grind (placeholder term) to fly to the top without having to slowly climb to the roof. The same concept applies to buildings with metal siding. In addition to the new electricity-based travel options, Cole's parkour animations have been expanded upon and enhanced.

thank god that climbing hitting up and the same button over and over and over was tedious

A gameplay video showing off the new action is coming this Friday onGT TV:

Quote:

inFamous 2 may have undergone some visual changes over inFamous, but SuckerPunch is crafting one of the biggest PS3 games and a massive sequel to a very solid first entry. The graphics may be more cell-shaded, but the change is certainly for the better and the screens and trailers impressed you, but the gameplay footage will blow your mind and you mind will be blown later this week when you get to witness three minutes of pure in-game gameplay footage of inFamous 2.

Releasing on GT TV this Friday, you'll be able to see the world premiere gameplay footage for inFamous 2. Showcasing amazing visuals and, apparently, some amazing footage, the inFamous 2 footage has Geoff Keighley and Naughty Dog's Evan Wells both foaming at the mouth over it.

Geoff Keighley posted on his Twitter: "Just saw the Infamous 2 gameplay clip for this weeks GTTV- 3 minutes of all in-game footage. Wow!! Don't miss it.", in which Evan Wells replied:"I just saw it too and WOW! It's looking really awesome! RT Just saw the Infamous2 gameplay clip - 3 min of in-game footage.". Keighley then asked him if Naughty Dog is sharing tech with SuckerPunch, Wells said: "Nope. 100% pure Sucker Punch awesomeness!"

Impressing Evan Wells and the team at Naughty Dog is quite a feat after what they accomplished with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Somehow I had a feeling that they would use the cell shading method to improve visual quality, it just feels right for this type of game to me. I still don't like the wuss look of the new Cole. The new Cole seems like a better fit in Mirror's Edge universe. Can't wait to see the trailer.

Gameplay video released early. If you have a link to better quality... post it.

Game looks awesome and I cannot wait. Infamous was an awesome freaking game.

Wow, that's one of the best "first game play" trailer videos I've seen in a long time. This game is gonna be EPIC!
Yup... the end is awesome.... I enjoyed the whole thing, but then that end came and I was like "HOLY CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP"... I really hate waiting another year .

Haha, maybe they'll release it on January 2nd, then we'd only have to wait six months !
Hopefully. But if we are hoping for the best... I hope they surprise everybody and release it next month or something lol.

Here's a better quality video. I'll add it to the first post of this thread.

Looks good! Only thing that annoys me so far... the fighting at the beginning. Just hope there isn't alot of scripted finishing me. Tends to annoy me to watch the same super finishing move over and over again Ã* la God of War...

Finally, an HD version of "The Chase".

Yup, watched it on Spike a little while ago... I love the way the explosions look and stuff. Game should be pretty freaking awesome.

You are not the only one, because I felt the same way. Although Uncharted 2 still looked amazing.

That was an amazingly beautiful trailer I can't wait to see the final product!
