I just hooked up my dn1010 and I really like it. I had no problems but maybe BC I bravia sync w/ my kdl46ex500 and I only use HDMI. I'd say the main thing that helped was reading the manual from cover to cover before even touching a wire.

The only confusing part is that the manual pretty much was written in a way that it expects you to have read all sections and doesn't always give you a page to reference back to so I could see how it could be confusing if you expect to be able to flip to a page directly like I did at first

For fear of baiting DRC72(which I'll try not to ) I'm pleased with the DN1010, having had it since mid August of last year.

After a few weeks I still think this receiver is great. My Onkyo 605 that I paid twice the amount for is now in my garage and I don't miss it. Those who said they were not getting enough bass must have had the settings wrong. I get the same amount of bass if not more from my Sony. I actually had to turn my sub down. I helped my buddy set his up and I noticed he had very little bass output. Once we changed his fronts from large to small problem fixed. The frequency settings are also very important. I did not use the auto calibrate, you just need to know your speakers specs.

I get Dolby Digital (3/2/1) and PCM from my Dish 722K DVR using HDMI no problems. My Wii is upscaled to 1080p and looks pretty good (not HD quality). My Onkyo made the Wii look like crap so I couldn't upscale it at all. I like the little things like input labeling and HDMI controll. Overall for the price it is great. The true test will be how many years I get out of it. The only thing I would like a bit more control of the equalizer. Not much tweaking available in that area but enough to get decent sound.

No matter what receiver you buy you will find a ton of negative reviews. They all seem to have some sort of glitch or issue.

LOL!!! No worries man...... I'm glad the receiver worked out for. I basically got a lemon when I bought mine. I've tried every setting possible and could not get my sub to respond with strong bass. When I hooked up the same sub to my Pioneer bass was beyond plentiful. I think Sony had a bad batch of receivers somewhere along the line, but anyhow I still think the DN1010 is garbage

That's good.

If you have the time and patience would you re-run the Auto Cal, but this time double check that the Auto Cal's microphone plug is fully inserted into the jack.

C'Net did a review of a STR-DG920 where this "Error Code 33" appeared while performing the Auto Cal for the review. It was discovered that they didn't have the microphone plug fully inserted. Auto Cal worked as it should after re-inserting the mic plug and making sure it was fully inserted.

Fingers crossed this is your problem. The jack is in a slightly awkward recessed location.

Just trying to help.

Sh*t happens . I was reading along when you you were posting your troubles with that.

While certainly not providing any usable necessities here, had I gotten the Wife's acceptance to spend what a VSX-33 cost I just maybe might have.

The 1010 yourself, I, and others here did purchase, albeit yours defective, did or must have at that moment meet our expectant needs and or wants. Otherwise we wouldn't have bought it. Like you, I've been with Sony(home audio anyways) for a long long time.

I'm impressed with its features and performance. The 1010 is what I consider a mid-range receiver at a decent price. Definitely not one of the low-ball models and certainly not top shelf, it fit our needs and fell within our budgets.

I'm not an audiophile. No Salk speakers here. Or speaker cables that cost a weeks salary, per pair. My acoustics you ask. Huh, acoustics? No I didn't build or modify a room for optimizing my viewing and listening experience. Would I like to do the preceding three things, h*ll yea I would.

Until that time comes, and it will, the living room does double duty.

Well I went ahead and looked at the mic which was exactly my issue...plugged it in and auto tuned worked with no errors...I appreciate you taking the time to help me fix my issue with my surround sound...no more wondering what was the problem if I had everything connected the way it should...thanks again

Ha. Let me guess .... She's like mine, something about needing a "dozen" remotes "to do any g*d damn thing with it"?

Hint! She absolutely loves it after I got a Harmony remote and programmed it to "Stream Movies", "Stream Music", "Watch TV", and "BD and Netflix"

Wanna start a fight there? After grabbing the remote from her hand, under your breath mumble "Women will never rule the world if they can't even figure out how to turn their friggin stereo on" (at all costs, this is not recommended)

My Pioneer works perfectly with my setup... My first Sony never gave me a lick of trouble. My second Sony which was an ES model sounded great, but was way under-powered(recall on power issue that I was never contacted about by Sony, until I found out to late), and after awhile popping sound was coming from my right surround and back surround speaker in Dolby Digital mode. It was a cool looking receiver, but Sony still needed to work out the issues with the digital drive amplifiers. The DN1010's lack off bass from the SW was my major gripe, and no it was not the sub as it works perfectly with my Pioneer and my previous Sony ES model. As stated in my previous post, setting changes yielded very little results. It's been proved.

Navigating in this subsection uses a combination of the L, R, Up, Down and +(as Enter) buttons.

I'm still having my stupid HDMI issues, and it is random, and seems to be getting worse. I'm going to end up having to take it to a repair shop...This whole AVR purchasing experience has been the single worst experience that I've ever had...

I have it set "On" as my sub can't reproduce over 200Hz. My 5.1 setup, MINE, the acoustics sound less "rumbly' and more what I think the soundtrack should sound, theater-like, as when I set my 3/2's to "Small" and let the sub(.1) itself receive and reproduce the LFE channel.

No matter what order I power things on, the signal coming from the 1010 drops (the speaker diagram goes away, the HDMI light goes out, etc). It's random. Doesn't always happen. Sometimes happens more than once. Sometimes comes back on and stays, sometimes goes in/out intermittently.

I have done the system reset. I have reset the HDMI stuff, etc., still happens, and it is annoying... Doesn't matter whether it's Dish, PS3, DVD player...whatever...

I have had nothing but bad luck with my AVR purchase...it started with a Pioneer VSX 1020...3 of them...that didn't work. Then, I went with the 1010, as I have a Sony TV...and this issue is driving me nutz.
